  1. The mini tub was just deepening the stock wheel wells to the frame, then just add some styrene to fill in the new part of the wheel well and done, easy except with this car the stock leaf springs run inside the frame and coundn't be used. I used the suspension from the Revell 32 highboy for this, Here is the underside of the car and a stock chassis for the convertable i am building.

  4. I Bought this as an incomplete kit for $4.00 at the last show we had in Albany, Oregon. It is missing the frame, suspension, engine and the photetch parts. I decide to build it into a prostreet car. So far i have opened the doors and trunk, made the door jamb for one side and fill in a few things. I still have to fab a frame and suspension, and have plans on using the Dobbertons J2000 prostreet for the engine, once i find one. Here are pics of the progress so far..........

  5. Got some more work done this weekend on the car hauler.

I got some white promer on the cab for checking the bodywork, so far so good, a little more work and its done, ;D . Spent most of my time working on the bed. I got the angle trim all around the the top edge of the bed, the engine cover done with latch. ficed my misscut on the wheelwell, got the taillights cut into the back panel and finally started on the ramp storage slot.

Here are a couple pics for ya guys and also THANKS for all the great comments!!!!!

  6. Thanks for the pics of the Mack, Somebody did a nice conversion on it.

I got a few more things done over the weekend, I cut the engine access and another area for storing chains and straps towards the end of the bed top. I also found a small mistake in the cab, it was 2mm shorter in length and highth on one side, so i had to do some cutting and refilling, glad this is plastic!!! Here are a couple new pics, Thanks for all the great comments, and thanks for looking,

  7. Jim, I am using the Ladder Cheif frame for this build, I also have some parts from the pumper and the frame is about 4 3/4 inches shorter and is closer to a standard box frame. This truck will have a driveline about an inch long and full access from the top of the bed. I have to make a trip to my parts guy to see if he has any semi kits I can get some wheels and maybe a turbo charged engine.

  8. A friend at work bought a box of 3 partial American Lefrance firetruck kits mixed together in a box at a yard sale for $2.00. He didn't do anything with it and gave it to me. It contained parts from two ladder trucks and one pumper truck. The first time I saw one of these on the shelf i wanted to build one into a car hauler, but they are a little expensive so it never happened till now.

I used pieces from all three cabs to lengthen and raise the cab to make a sleeper area out of it. I still have to build the interior, going to make a bed, refrigerator and some cabinets. The engine will get moved from under the cab to under the front of the bed. The framefrom the ladder truck will work with a few modifications. The bed right now is thin cardboard so i can decide how to start cutting plastic.

    Thanks for looking,

    Dave

  9. Here is the project I started this weekend, It started out as the AMT 1972 Chevy Longbed Pickup I built several years back. Yesterday I decided to cut it up. I started with chopping the cab and sanding the side trim off. Today I shortened the front and rear of the bed.

Plans so far are to shorten the stock chassis and lower it down and add Pegasus wheels. I have an original 1970 pickup grill for it and also install a big block engine.

    Thanks for looking,

    Dave

  10. I got this a few years ago as a bagged kit (zip-lock-bag) with no instructions or decals. I started it and put it away for some reason. After a couple years I was digging through the stash of kits and parts and came accross it again and decided to finish it up. I painted it Testors one coat purple and applied some silver stripes on it. Its basicly built out of the bag, except a set of Pegasus Magnum wheels and opened the grill.

  11. That does look real good in yellow, you did a nice job on it. I was thinking about painting my long tail version different than the grey colors and looking at yours i think i'm gonna do that. Nice job!!!

  12. I had to trim the rear intake scoops a little. The main fit issue was the rear cover, I think I'm going to be gluing it down also. I mainly left it unglued to take pictures. Most of it went together really easy, just wish there was more reference for this car.

  13. Thanks everyone. Like I had said ever since I had seen the kit I have wanted to build it, and it was a fun build. I have everything I need to build the long tail version which set the world record closed coarse top speed at 278.357mph driven by A.J. Foyt.

  14. I normally don't build racecars, but have always liked the looks of this car. I built this mostly out-of-the-box, had some fit issues, but not too bad and added a few wires and its painted German Silver and Graphite Metallic. Detail pictures for this car aren't easy to find, so a lot of this was a guessing game.

    Thanks for Looking,

    Dave
