GSL Common Kit: [revision] just another Model A Roadster
Straightliner59 replied to 89AKurt's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I've been using mostly the 3/64" tubing from Special Shapes with them mostly, the last few years (since I found the Special Shapes stuff). They fit it, perfectly! -

That's how I did the solder headers on my supermodified. That jig makes all the difference in the world! Nice work, Greg!- 24 replies

GSL Common Kit: [revision] just another Model A Roadster

I have been using those since the mid-'80s. They're awesome! It's looking great, Kurt! That is some high strangeness, with the trans pan. -
AMT ‘53 Ford F-100
Straightliner59 replied to Smoke Wagon's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
This is just right! I love the white grille! Black bumpers will look good, but, I would probably do white. No matter--this is going to be a beauty! -
Thank you, sir!

Thanks, Bruce. Much appreciated! Thank you, Bob. I was pretty proud of that win! The Goldenrod--what can be said, it's just a gorgeous car! Thanks so much, Bernard. The Mack was really my first go at overall weathering on anything except a couple of 1/72 scale tanks I built 30 years ago, or so. You're correct about the Goldenrod kit. It's a total of, like 14 or 15 parts, and the main one could be used for self-defense! It's one hefty hunk of resin! I made the collectors from aluminum tubing, and added a pushbar made of brass. The tail was finished to look somewhat like the fiberglass resin of the real one. The windscreen is, as you assumed, painted on. I simply applied a heavy coat of Humbrol metallic blue. It did work out, petty well! Thanks again for your kind words, my friend! May your '22 be a fine one!

Well, I guess that's that part! I still have the fuel block and lines and the linkages to add (the throttle rods pull right out), but the injectors are mounted. Comments, questions and critiques are always welcome. Thanks for looking!

Thank you, Carl!

Pretty small. I mix and match them (half each of a butt and a strap) to make throttle pedals. I also used them on the hood of my Mack.

The box/bed braces are a perfect touch. They would certainly seem to make sense! -
I got a bit more color on the manifold. I also added the flanges for the injectors. I decided to go with a single piece for each side, because that will keep everything aligned. I went back and reread Bernard Kron's post on his '32 Ford, because I love the way he did the body in natural metal. His steel looks better than mine, but, mine looks a lot more like steel than it did, before. If you happen to see this, thanks, Bernard! The flanges are installed. Next time I have time, I will begin installing the injectors. After applying some pastels and a wash of India ink, I went back and retouched the welds with some of that Floquil blue, then lightly touched them in a few spots with a silver Prismacolor pencil. As always, critiques, questions and comments are welcome. Thanks for looking!

Another source for wood bed material
Straightliner59 replied to Rick L's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I do, too. It works very nicely, and looks right. -
I'm not sure, just yet. I will likely use some 1/32" brass tube. I'll study the photos a little more closely, once I'm ready to install them.

I got the injectors drilled for the fuel lines. Just need to create flanges for each pair, and do some final alignment. Still want to add a little more "color" to the manifold, as well.

Two Layer Decal Sets
Straightliner59 replied to ibj40's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Without seeing them, I would say yes. Fred Cady did his decals that way. -
First, I plan on finishing my Edmunds Supermod. If I decide to participate in a 24-hour build, this year, I'll likely go with the '63 Nova wagon (curbside version) as an NHRA Stock class racer. Beyond that, I have been seriously considering building the Gunze Sangyo Indian kit my friend gave me for Christmas, one year, decades ago. I finally feel like I may have finally developed/acquired the skills I felt that I needed, to do it right.

Thanks, Larry. Thank you, much, David! The Summers brothers built such a gorgeous racer, to begin with...?
