I rebuilt a portion of the rear suspension, after breaking a solder joint on one of the hairpins. I stripped them in Super Clean and fixed the one, then repainted them both. These photos are prior to that. I have since also remade the trailing arms, from brass. I'm hoping to wrap up the rear suspension in the next few days, although a couple of them will be long ones, work-wise. Thanks for looking! Questions, comments and critiques are always welcome.

I have really enjoyed this thread! Beautiful work on such a cool car(s)!

I think it's about time I had a red car in my display case! Paint on belly pans is an old can of Krylon Cherry Red I have sitting around. It sprayed beautifully, and smelled like the old days! The body and nose will also be this color, once work on them is completed. I may, or may not do a scallop, on the nose.

It often takes Joseph a couple of days to get back to you. Especially around the weekend. Everything he makes is as good as it gets! If I need something and he makes it, I will get it from him.

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Straightliner59 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I am, with the Supermodified. It will surely get finished, this round. I think I came in, late, this round, anyway, as I was finishing the Mack, when this round started. -
Thank you, Charles! This is excellent information. I have some of the "H" hinges I was planning to use for the doors of my Model A project. They aren't really correct for that application, so I ended up scratching a set. I did use one side, along with one from a strap hinge to make a throttle pedal for the old hot rod, too!

I just wanted to share these photos of Fireball Modelworks' Goodyear decals. They went on, flawlessly, and the carrier is virtually invisible! I'm going to shoot some Dullcote on them, and apply a little weathering, then start working on the wheels. I can't recommend Joseph's products, highly enough!

A few days ago, I received two sets of tire decals from Joseph at Fireball Modelworks. I applied them before I went to bed, this morning. As is usual, Joseph's stuff is amazing. The decals went on without a problem, the carrier film just disappears! Highly recommended products.

I stumbled on this technique, back about the turn of the millennium, but hadn't really employed it, until now. It's more suited to simulated butt joints, rather than at actual seams, as it's difficult to disguise the edges. Still, it doesn't look awful. I used a ball-ended burnishing tool on the pictured cutting mat. This mat has a pebbled surface, which creates a pretty convincing weld, when embossed with the burnisher. The metal, in this case, is Maid-O-Metal 36 ga. tooling aluminum. Questions, comments and critiques are always welcome. Thanks for looking!

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!

Just for the record, I want to post where I am, now. I hadn't intended to scratchbuild the entire suspension! ? I don't think I am too far from being able to cleanup/paint/assemble the chassis and wheels and tires. Then, I can build the engine, an it should pretty much be a drop-in... -

That's excellent, Snake! This thread has led to a TON of completions that might not have been, without it. I think I am on number four. The last four+ years have been the most prolific of my modeling life. I think I have completed seven projects, in that time! -
The Hagerty link didn't work for me. Is it the article in which Neil talks about having a small box of modeling supplies, so that he could build on the tour bus, back in their earlier days? Rush is the soundtrack of my life. I miss them, dearly. From what I have read of/from Neil, it was the "fanboy" stuff that made him uncomfortable. If you'd run into him, and, somehow it was about car modeling, it's likely he'd have found a little time to visit. At least, I have always told myself that!

Thank you, Jim! And, maybe one of these, that isn't a dirt tracker!? Thanks, JC. I'm having a lot of fun with it!

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!

I am going to have to extend...again. I've got a lot done, but clearly it's not happening in the next 48 hours, or so. I would have made it, if I could leave well enough alone! I will reiterate, this thread has been a great help, to me, in getting projects done. Once I declare something for this thread, it becomes and remains the focus of my efforts. -
I just picked up this resistance soldering unit on Ebay. It had an odd switch wired into it. I opened it up and removed the switch, and spliced the circuit back together, covering the splice with heat shrink. Then, I made new plugs for my handset, and covered those connections with heat shrink. It works great! My other one does, as well, but it only "adjusts" on and off at either 15, 50 or 100 W.

I got the entire suspension put back together, and the model set on the wheels. It fought me--heartily! I persevered, and I am happy with the results. I just noticed the spring shackle "flipped", causing the odd angle on the radius rod. As always--your questions, comments and critiques are welcome. Thanks for looking!

Actually, I think they shared tooling on this kit? At one time, I had both, and, as I recall, they were identical.

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!

That's been plaguing me, too. That, and getting an assembly nearly completed, then breaking part of it. I suppose it's time to admit that this one will have to spill over into the next round. I've had to extend every one, but, this thread has really helped me stay focused on a project. This will be my fourth completed project, thanks to this thread!
