Ford Race Car Hauler

Thanks Mark, I thought it looked like an automatic and I guess Allison is the only outfit that makes them big enough, right? -

Can anyone answer Ben's question in post #3? Does that transmission ring any bells? -

These trucks ran the FT series engines which were big block gas engines. I want to try to make it work with the Cat since we are using the more modern Louisville chassis. -
Yes Ron, I am happy with it. It looks enough like its big brother to make me say I was successful.

Our friend Fractalign is currently working on some more realistic sides and back for the roof. It should look more Chevy and less Ford by the time we're done.

Here's the text of the quote above. It is a resin coupe body that I cut.

Steve, are the rear quarter scripts "paint over foil"?

How many do you have going?
landman replied to Jonj238's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I had three until tonight when I put one under glass. I have a 1934 Chevrolet Master and a 1963 Ford N600 in the works. -
So it is done. This was a series of firsts with me, 1st model in about 18 years, 1st use of resin, 1st use of PE parts. I learned a lot, mostly by browsing these forums here. This is a replica of my personal Mustang. It sorta looks like it. Hope you like. I realize it isn't anywhere as neat and crisp as most of what one sees here, but someday maybe....

Have a look at the Under Glass section.

Das ist der glue bomb, completed. As soon as I can take some decent photos I'll paste her under glass.

Maybe it'll turn gray over time, or wrinkle the paint. We'll just have to wait.

Added the firewall, radiator and decals. Managed to damage both GTA stripes, thought I'd have to use the GT stripes from the kit for a while. Had a terrible time placing the PE grille insert. Ended up smearing with glue, stripping & repainting twice. With all this handling, I succeeded to nick the foil in a few places. Rad hoses, battery cables left to install. Exhaust tips & mirrors. I see Joe has pinned his mirrors. I might do that to prevent more smearing. There is nothing like positive location for an old shaky hand.

Tom Geiger, that's two sided tape in post #144. It is on the way to the car that the dropping & flying off occurred.

Tried the alcohol. It didn't seem to want to dissolve that gum. So I tried the GooGone and it worked. Tested it elsewhere first. Turns out after wiping it off it left a beautiful shine. So I shined the whole car with it. There won't be any clearcoating on this one. Worked on the grille. I wasn't able to attach it without smearing anything. So I took it off, sanded it clean and repainted it. Also worked on some of the engine compartment details. There is no starter solenoid so I made one.

Heavy Construction - Pipe layer
landman replied to Amtronic's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I worked for a pipeline company all my life and a pipelayer was always on my mind as a future project. I had even imagined using the ripper hydraulics as you did. Never got around to it. Built the dozer though. thanks for doing it. Now I can rest in piece. Beautiful fabrication. -
Jim, I used the Pledge floor finish (my version of Future) to place the letters. Then I'll clearcoat over them....if I ever get an airbrush. Scott, is that rubbing alcohol? Or that denatured stuff?
-
Measured, divided and marked. That was the easy part. The letters are about the same size as the point of the knife. Good thing there are three MUSTANG on the fret , I was on the third G by the time the dust settled. Couldn't afford anymore Tiddely-Winks with FORD, there is only one set. The result-:so-so. But in all fairness and to ease my conscience, they look better with the naked eye than blown up like this. The first strip of masking tape (old) left a gooey strip on the paint. Will Goo-Gone remove that without damaging the paint? Oh to be neat like some of the folks on this forum!!!!!

Thanks Nitro Neil for the lead on the Olds grille. I'd like to replicate this one, that I owned in the past. Not sure where to start. That Chevy body may be a start.

Simply gorgeous. -
Finished the windshield, wipers and wheel opening moldings. Noticed I had forgotten the one at the front of the hood when I took the pictures. Did it too.
