  1. Thanks for the kind words. Brian, I did fail to mention that I replaced the kit's molded antennae with a cut down whisker from my cat after I colored it with a black marker, and no, I didn't take it from him, but found it on my couch...lol. The build itself went together well but is fairly simplified. The decals responded well to solvent The body was well molded, but the plastic on many of the sprues seemed soft. A nice touch was the small fret of Phote etched parts and window masks. Doors can be permanently posed open, but I chose to glue them shut.
  2. Just finished this one. Gravity Colors paint. Gulf blue with clear pearl. Orange painted on instead of kit decals. carbon fiber interior with added racing harness.
  3. Randy, I have been saying the same thing about these Mustangs for years. It is about time a new tool of this generation Stang be produced. You did about as good as you could do with this. I would love to build a BOSS 351, (the fastest of all BOSSes BTW), and have the lousy MPC kit, but can't move myself to build it. I am still holding out hope we will someday get that newly tooled example.
  4. Don't listen to any criticisms, you did a fine job on this resto of a simplified kit at best. Love it.
  5. Well back to the "Mustang" talk......got my Boss 302 finished.... Actually built this one a while back from the Revell kit with AMT Cougar Eliminator engine. The eyes can be fooled into seeing a correct front end by ditching the chrome bezel and painting chrome around the lens itself, and just installing the lens. It recesses the light housing. Just thought I would pass this along but I am really glad Revell is correcting this. I agree with others as well that the 70 front end in 1/24 should also be corrected as that looks totally wrong. Any resin casters who can correct this would make a fortune. As a final note, how about a new tool Boss 351 generation car. The existing is terrible, and truth be told, it was the fastest of all the Boss cars.

  10. Thanks everyone on the comments. BVC, I think the lack of depth you mention is more to do with my pictures than the paint. In person it really pops and got a good reaction from fellow model club members when I brought it to a meeting. You definitely can see the pearl mid-coat in it. I use a synthetic lacquer clear coat and not urethane, which I tend to think is too deep for model cars, but overall I am very happy with the result. I can't speak to the Novelle Blue but I have seen the criticism of that color, but maybe a white primer coat would lighten it a bit.
  11. Just finished this one. Gravity Colors "Valencia Red" tri-coat pearl and Studio 27 Carbon Fiber decals as per the Acura option. Hope you like it. Comments and criticisms are welcome.
  12. Pics are not seen anymore in this post. Any updates. I wish someone, or Revell, would fix the front of their 70 Mustang that one is worse, I think.

  14. I have this kit as well and plan to paint it with the same color that you attempted to replicate, "Aymara Silver." I have this factory color being delivered from Gravity Colors as I write this. Can you comment on the build? I have heard there are some fit issues and am wondering if you experienced these?
  15. Eric, it is the actual factory Mercedes "Ivory" color. Gravity colors offers it as well as other colors. I have an extra bottle that I will not be using. PM me to purchase it if you want.
  16. Thanks everyone! The pictures to me look kind of compressed. Must be the resolution. Here is a link to more normal looking pics: http://public.fotki.com/GilCosta/foreign_and_exotic/1955-mercedes-benz-/ I knew about the radio being missing and also the omitted luggage rail, but I didn't want to get into replacing them. As is also known about these kits, although perfectly engineered, the instrument panel, (single chrome piece), and the hub caps are a challenge to paint. For the dash I first masked with liquid mask, trimmed, primed, and painted before removing the masking. For the hub caps, I sanded off the embossed Mercedes emblems, made circle masks, primed and painted, then added photo etch emblems from the Hobby Design set after chroming them with a chrome marker.
  17. Best engineered car kit I have built. Painted in Gravity colors "Mercedes Ivory" with red interior. Embossing powder for rug. Engine is plumbed and wired. Not a bad turnout considering I broke the passenger A pillar after it was painted
  18. I am working on this kit right now. Ivory with a red interior and my passenger A pillar broke also when the body was resting on my leg and began slipping between them. Of course, the natural reaction is to close your legs quickly to prevent a fall and doink, a crushed roof and broken A pillar. Mine broke clean though and I was able to repair it with minimal affect. I tested the fitment of the glass just to see how far it was off and noticed there will need to be a little coaxing when installing same to bring it into alignment. The doors should fit fine after that. You did a nice job, the problems notwithstanding. Was there anything preventing the hood from closing? I noticed that on mine, the hood will click in place when you push the top down into the holes and stays nicely shut.
