.50 spray cans were before my time. For all of my teenage model car years, spray cans--Testor, AMT, or Pactra--were 69 cents.

I'm currently trying to rescue a '67 GTO glue bomb which might be the World Record Holder for flash on a model car body. Amazingly, the OB removed none of it before painting it! It reminded me that I had to wrestle one of these to the ground some years ago. I eventually made it my Joy Behar, but I had more time just straightening out the body of that backbirth than I have in most entire builds--around 40 hours.

They didn't do that all at once. Took a couple years. They went from .10 to .11, to .12, to .13, and then to .15. They jumped .14 for some reason. If I dug in the Snakepit a little, I could probably come up with bottles with all five prices on them.

Very sharp! Well done and model on. (BTW, we call them "wheelie bars" over here.)

Very cool! I love all these old OG AMT AWB funnies! Thanks for the heads-up on the kit decals--I was planning to use them on mine. Well done and model on--and I hope your AMS disease doesn't return.

AMT ‘66 Chevy Nova Pro Street/ MPC ‘72 Vega Drag
Snake45 replied to laemtao's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Very cool project! I just finished up the "rescue/rehab" of a glue bomb of this kit. Gave me a lot of good ideas of how I'd like to build a "good" one. One suggestion for you: Lose those molding marks on the top of the rear fenders and then running along the fender edge from there back. This wasn't done on the (already painted) one I just reworked. I ended up carefully trimming them off with a chisel-edge blade, and then had to touch up the paint. Fortunately after a few coats of clear the scars are hardly noticeable now. Good luck and drive on! -
I thought it was completely useless. Almost every subject on the list has numerous kits available, many of them in several different scales, and the article gave no kit information at all.

What he said. -
I too have managed to round up all the stuff I need to build one of these, just haven't gotten around to it yet. I'll be following your build closely, especially what you use for the yellow paint. Good luck and drive on!

I routinely sand the treads of my tires with #280 sandpaper on a foam-backed sanding block. I even do this on diecasts.
-
Yah. At least these shouldn't be too hard to rebuild--unlike, say the '66 Skylark. What a nightmare THOSE are to reconstruct.

We got about 4 inches of the lightest, fluffiest snow I've ever seen. It could have probably been removed with a leaf blower, but I don't have one. I don't have to go anywhere till Sunday so was in no hurry to get out, but The Lovely Mrs. Snake got a case of "snow-claustrophobia" or something and decided to shovel out enough to get her car out. Only took her about a half hour.

I have the old Super Stock & Drag Illustrated magazine that had the full-color centerfold of that car--disassembled down to the last nut and bolt. And the complete cost list--IIRC, it ran to somewhere around $25,000, a huge amount of money in those days (it would have bought FIVE brand new Corvettes).

I'd never heard that, but it sure looks to be the same color. I have a mint unbuilt Logge chassis of the right type from a JoHan '70 4-4-2. When the body comes, I'll check and see if the wheelbase works. Thanks!

I LIKE that! I'm going to mentally file it next to another favorite: "When you buy the best, you only cry once." -
Wow, that's a beauty! Now you're making me wish I'd bought one when Ollie's had them for $10.

Very most way excellent! The chassis looks black in this one, but we know from the other one it's light blue. Looks like different rear wheels in this shot, too. Good details on the fuel/water tanks. Thanks again!

Lastest eBay scores: '68 Falcon glue bomb and '62-'64 Nova body. '66-'69 Falcons in any condition are going for just stupid money these days. All things considered, I considered this one a steal at under $30. Biggest problems of course are the cut rear fenders, the hole in the hood, and the missing rear bumper. I THINK I can solve these problems and take it back to stock, or stock-ish. Plan B would be a Day Two or wild street car, and Plan C is a gasser. The Nova body (not sure yet if it's a '62, '63, or '64) seems to be perfect. The orange paint is so nice that if I had the painted hood, I'd give serious consideration to cleaning it up, removing the decals and “restoring” it as-is. But it'll get stripped and rebuilt, probably after I try to take silicone molds off the lower rear quarters to use for “un-altering” some '65 Rat Packer bodies. Might have to get another copy of the new '63 wagon kit just for an organ donor to finish this jewel out.

Looks BETTER without the goofy stripe. You dodged a bullet. Well done and model on!
