Kits Which Were Once This, Then Became That
Snake45 replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It became the '67 Annual, and then the AWB Eliminator funny car, which still exists. The body shape is in some ways more accurate than the "new" AMT '67 Cyclone from the '90s. -
Kits Which Were Once This, Then Became That

It goes (almost) without saying, all the AMT dirt trackers and AWB funny cars.... -
Very cool! I've been collecting glue bomb disco Novas and I think I have four now, also two new kits, an AMT and the lately reissued MPC, and I'm looking forward to building up one or more of them soon. I just finished the paint strip of the nicest glue bomb so maybe I'll start there. Not sure where I'm going with them so I'll be watching yours for ideas. Drive on!

That's different from what I've been buying at Walmart. Mine doesn't say Acrylic. Different label graphics too. It MIGHT be the same stuff, but I'd advise you to do your own testing before committing it to a good paint job.

amt 1202 1/25 AMT 1963 Chevy II Nova Station Wagon - Craftsman Plus

The '66 interior fits it near perfect after slimming the sides just a hair. I assume you could fit the wagon dash to the '66 interior but I'm not gonna bother.- 599 replies

The seats are the least of that backbirth's problems. If you want to throw enough time and skill at it, it can be built into a decent model, though. I know this for a fact. I've done it.

Except for the altered rear wheel openings, the body is still pretty much stock including all emblems, door handles, etc. I got this one with an eBay "Nova junkyard" that had a couple other things I wanted. Guy started converting it back and gave up. I think I can "gitter done." Won't be stock, though, 'cause I don't have a spare '65 stock interior.- 599 replies

I think he started with a cheap diecast. Correct me if I'm wrong. (As a cheap diecast guy myself, I couldn't be more proud of him!)

In the Under Glass section, Ranma put one on a '66 chassis and I asked him how he did it. He told me with nice instructions, and I used his tips to trim the '66 pro stock chassis to fit under a junk '65 body I'm trying to rehabilitate. Mine still needs a little length off the back. Go thou and do likewise!- 599 replies

It's, ummm....

I'll say this: It's far from the worst looking "custom" I've ever seen. -
Any way to un yellow a decal
Snake45 replied to youpey's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It might or might not help to set the model in a window where it can be hit by sunlight. I've "bleached" unused decals this way many times, but have never tried it on applied ones. -
They had ONE can on the shelf again this morning. I bought it.

I know her best as Phyliss on the Mary Tyler Moore show. She was always my least favorite character, but I suppose she wasn't supposed to be likable.

Been tweaking Stuperbird's chassis. When last seen, I'd just chopped it and glued it back together. Now the wheelbase was right, but the whole rear quarter of the chassis seemed to hang out the back of the car: Turns out the shortened chassis had dried bent a little downward when I glued it back together. So I cracked the frame at the glue joint, bent the rear up a little, filled the crack with super glue gel, and let that cure for 24 hours. There, that's better. Then I chopped about 1/8" off the back end of the chassis. Also painted the wheels black, and made them fit into the selected tires, which took a little 2nd Degree Snake-Fu, as they're actually a bit too deep. Thanks Gary (Gramps 46) for the wheels, I love them! So here Stupidbird sits, for the first time ever, on its corrected chassis with the actual wheels and tires it will wear for the drive. Compare this pic with the first one in this post. There we go! Might need a little tweaking between the body and the windows, interior, and chassis and how they all fit together to get the body down over the chassis a hair more, but this is basically it. As always, comments welcome.

Wow, what a beauty! Always wondered what a '55 Nomad would look like AWB--it looks GREAT! Thanks for sharing it! -

Street Outlaws, Fastest in America
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I am REALLY enjoying the latest iteration, the 64-car Cash Days shootout. JJ and his A-Team, Big Chief and the 405 crew, Birdman (new car? We haven't seen him yet) and the Texas crew, Kye/Lizzie and NOLA, Chuckie and Detroit, Rankin, and many of the other heavy hitters from all over. JJ's new blue '65 Nova (so far unnamed) debuted in fantastic style, made it through the first two rounds and seems to go like stink! It's double elimination and Jeff Lutz of the 405 and Memphis's Don Gingrich have already been sent home. Murder Nova and Scott Taylor (among others) are fighting it out in the Loser's Bracket. Monday nights are exciting again! -
That's a very kind and generous offer! Don't think I'll need it but if I do, I'll give you the call! Thanks! Meanwhile, progress is being made. I decided to use JunkNova as a test mule for Rustoleum Clear Gloss Lacquer; laid on six coats and polished it out. Wow, what a difference! Was able to fill in nearly all of the original "orange peel" and get it fairly glossy all over. It's not an "A" paint job now (since I didn't do any of the pre-paint body prep), but I brought it up from about a C-/D+ job to maybe a solid B--maybe even a B+ or A- from three feet away. The gloss doesn't really show up in these pics but here it is anyway. I also came into possession of a junk '65 Nova body that I'm trying to rehabilitate, and decided it would be fun to set the chassis up so the '65 and '66 bodies could be easily switched back and forth. It took some adjustment of the tubs and the firewall, and I still need to take some length off the very rear, but it looks like this will work great. The '66 interior even fits into the '65 body with just some VERY minor trimming along the sides. Next task will be finishing off the suspension for the chassis. Fingers crossed!

You've got the idea. Although I did mention "your" oldest builds in the OP, of course we've opened it up to eBay buys, flea market finds, and so forth. -
Good to hear this! Congratulations!

Fabulous! Well done and model on!

This thread is over two years old. There's also a similar, even older "Let's See Some Survivors" thread up in General, which has also just been brought back from the dead. Be sure to see that one, too. BTW, great dragster! Love it!

That sounds like a different topic: Show Us Your First/Earliest Builds. This thread is about OLD models.
