  1. That's an MPC '66. I have three of them and all are molded in gray--very unusual for the time. The tires of course are much newer--they look like AMTs--and I couldn't tell you what the wheels are from. I've never seen a hood like that so it' probably modified, possibly aftermarket. That's a nice find. If it were mine, I'd polish out the nice blue paint (very similar in color to Model Master Nassau Blue) and restore it as a nice survivor. You wouldn't want to trade it, would you?
  2. You got my attention because I have this kit and consider the car by far the most attractive of the Challenger funny cars. If I ever build the thing, I'll be doing this car too. Model on and post pics of your progress!
  3. I just finished the polish-out of JunkNova. I am VERY pleased with the results. I might have just found my new go-to clear coat.
  4. Yeah. I have an Otaki Ford Capri that seems to be right around 1/28 scale.
  5. About three jobs ago, I used to work with that stuff. I made patterns from it. I think we paid about $10 or $12 a sheet for the stuff. I got permission to take the leftover scrap home and I still have POUNDS of the stuff around here--I should NEVER have to buy .020-030" styrene again. (For a while there, if you were trading with me, I threw a bunch of the stuff in the box just to get rid of it.)
  6. Who are you talking about? ETA: I honestly don't know what you're offended about, but that certainly wasn't my intent. I count myself among those who already own more kits than he'll ever build. I came here to delete my post, but I see a couple others have already quoted it (and apparently took it in the spirit offered), so that wouldn't do much good. If the mods think my post was offensive, then I have no objection if they delete it.
  7. And the truth is that everyone here already owns dozens if not hundreds of kits that will never get built (or finished).
  8. Read the Enterprise article, and then substitute your big rig kit for the Enterprise. Done!
  9. Wright's Silver Cream, my go-to. My can looks like that except it doesn't say "specialty" on the label. Probably the same stuff. I paid $3.96 at Walmart. And you're right, it's hard--almost as hard as Testor Wet Look Clear.
  10. That looks familiar. I think I have that book. Lots of pics of custom Vettes in that chapter?
  11. I finally found mine, and much as it pains me to admit it, you're right--the 2.0 is 1/24 scale (even labeled as such). The body is actually longer than the Monogram '71 Cuda! I didn't compare the rest of the parts but the wheel openings are in exactly the same place as the AAR 1.0 body.
  12. So does every paint, every cement, and every solvent I use in my modelmaking. I guess I'm living dangerously. Oh well, you gotta live your life.
  13. Believe it or not, I'm going to agree with you. I don't count rivets or measure things to the scale inch but I DO demand that a model look like what it's supposed to be to my eye, either out of the box or with some reasonable, do-able fixes. If it looks wrong to me, it IS wrong. One of the few models I actually regret wasting the time building was the Fujimi "1/48" F6F Hellcat. It went together easy enough and painted well, but I didn't notice till it was finished that it was actually 1/50 scale and had a number of disturbing shape inaccuracies. That model still irritates me.
  14. I bought another can of that Rustoleum Clear Gloss Lacquer at Walmart today, having had good luck with the first can I bought last week. They only had one can left--I was thinking that there were only two last week, and I seem to recall looking for it there for awhile with no luck. I'll keep my eye out for more. You what they say, if it's any good, stock up because Walmart will stop carrying it.
  15. Huh. My experience couldn't have been more different. My beloved Wright's Silver Cream (which will polish plastic, even hard clear plastic) would hardly touch it. I gave up on that and went to sanding it with #1200-#1500 sandpaper followed by polishing it with some Heavy-Duty (red) paste polish from the auto parts store. That finally cut it.
  16. I've used Tamiya clear and it didn't work much if any better for me than the Rustoleum. I paid about $4 for an 11 oz can of the Rustoleum at Walmart. What does the Tamiya cost?
  17. Laid on coats 5 and 6 today, and they're already dry enough to handle. Hard to photograph; these are the best two of five. Previously, the body sides, especially the lower sides, were so orange-peeled that they almost didn't have any sheen at all; now they've got a little gloss to them. It actually looks better in 3D than in these pics. I'll start polishing it tomorrow. I believe it'll shine up pretty nice. We'll see.
  18. Very nice! I like what you're doing here. And I'm envious--I've been looking for another one of these myself. Have the Slixx decals waiting for it, when I eventually find one. Model on!
  19. I jumped through the hoops to get a quote from GEICO once. Their quote was $700 more than I was paying Erie, who, interestingly, doesn't spend several hundred million dollars a year advertising.
  20. I had some long delays in December, but I think everything I sent and was sent to me has arrived. They seem to be catching up. My check to the electric company in December never arrived, though, and I had to make a double payment for January.
  21. Keavdog, your builds hit a personal chord with me. The Skyraider and F-86 made my list, and I've modeled them both. I've also built the F-16 and F-4. I built Petie 2nd on the Monogram kit back in the '70s. And when I was at Lackland AFB in 1972, their P-51H was (incorrectly) painted in those markings, and I took a lot of pics of it, hoping someday to do a diorama of it on the ancient Aurora kit. I've built several P-47Ds but the next one I do will be a 78FG bird like yours, in honor of my favorite rocker, Warren Zevon. My Dad, who flew several dozen different types, once told me his favorite military aircraft was the C-121. (The ones he flew were overall 16473 ADC gray, not camo.) And my son, now a C-17 driver, trained on the "new" T-6. I think you'd feel right at home in the model airplane stash wing of the Snakepit.
  22. And every price, no matter how high or low, has to be preceded by "Just!" or "Only!" These words now have no commercial meaning whatsoever.
  23. I don't think the real grilles are the same between RS and non RS, as the RS grille has the big rubber bumper surround, but I'm not sure about that at all. If I wanted the Z/28 emblem gone, I could remove it. But I realize that not everyone could. Maybe getting a second grille, cutting both down the middle, and using the two passenger sides? Dunno if that would work or not, just a suggestion.
