Very nice, very clean build! Well done and model on!
-
Oh I have several copies of that kit. I'm currently working on building up a Pro Street version using junk and castoff parts, and was thinking of seeing if I could build up an equally junk '65 Nova body to swap onto it, "Switchers" style. Your details told me exactly what to look for, and where. I think I can trim down the PS chassis to fit under the earlier body and still have it usable under the '66. Here's the junk '65 body I want to rehabilitate and put on the same chassis, too. Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread. I apologize.

Does Super Clean Wear Out, or Weaken?
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Update: #2: After 7 days in the pond, all the paint--burgundy, lime gold, and turquoise--is gone. Down to bare plastic. I've had a fourth body in for about 4 days now, about 70% of that paint is gone. It'll all come off eventually, I believe. -
Some of them seem to take it as a challenge, or a personal affront.

That doesn't look bad at all, Geno! Well done and model on!

That came out pretty nice. I'm liking that color more and more--I need to get some! Well done and model on!

Thanks, Ranma--very useful information! I appreciate it!

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
This round ends March 31. You can start a project anything between now and then. You can do as many projects in a round as you want--I think the personal record is three, or is it four? As I understand it, you started that Triumph back in the '70s, but haven't worked on it for a long time. If that's the case, it's eligible for this round. -
Was just gonna ask the same thing. I'm working on a '66 Nova pro street chassis and was thinking of building up a junk '65 Nova body to add to it, "Switchers" style. But I found out it won't go, due mainly to problems at the rear end. Would love to see how much you had to remove to make it work. Thanks!

Here's a handy tip for dealing with phone customer service. As soon as they start giving you menus and choices, hit 0. Often this will take you directly to a breathing human being who will then send you direct to the right place. This doesn't ALWAYS work, of course, but you'll be amazed at how often it does.

I've got you down for that Camaro; Welcome aboard! -
Kits with clear hoods
Snake45 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Huh! You're right! But I never had or even saw that kit as a kid, so the one I'm thinking of must have been from something else. https://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/amt-instructions/automotive-cars--pi/ford/1961-1970/amt-1967-ford-fairl/8.html#media ETA: Further research shows the original annual AMT '67 Mustang had a clear teardrop hood. The MPC '68 Mustang had a clear hood, but it wasn't teardrop, it was stock. -
Paint the spokes a dark gray or satin black. That will REALLY tone down the "bling bling pimp wagon" look--I've done it several times on diecasts (especially Jadas) and it helps a lot!

Kits with clear hoods
Snake45 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a vague recollection of seeing or maybe even at one time having a clear hood with the Ford teardrop bubble. MPC '67 or '68 Mustang, maybe? Or was that the clear hood in the AMT '68 Shelby? -
Way cool! You are shaming me into doing some kind of upgrade to the molded-in exhaust on Stupidbird (darn you!)!

No, especially since we're late getting started. I'll put you on the new list I'm putting together. -
Kits with clear hoods

The MPC '68 Firebird had it too, as well as the '67. The AMT '65 Impala had a clear hood but only for the radical custom version. -

Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Or--here's an idea--you could go back and read Page 1 of the thread, or at least the first few posts.... ETA: Actually, posts 3 and 7 on Page 2 (from me) pretty much lay out the rules here, such as they are. -

Rustoleum Clear Gloss Lacquer

Won't post pics of the spoons, but will describe and give my recommendations. Will of course post pics of the JunkNova when it's finished. -
Rustoleum Clear Gloss Lacquer
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Okay, this morning I sprayed a heavy, "abusive" coat of the stuff on 4 or 5 random spoons I had laying around from previous paint tests. So far the lacquer has not reacted badly with any of them. They're all shiny, but not "super glossy" or "wet look" glossy. I suspect that several coats could be rubbed out to a nice shine. Next test will be on the purple '66 "JunkNova" body I'm working on. Not sure what paint is on it now. I'll lay a couple light coats on that, then a few heavier ones, then try to polish it out. If it doesn't work, I'll just strip it--the finish on it isn't great now, and I'm not wild about the color, so no huge loss if it all goes sideways. -
I just opened up my left index fingertip with a razor saw. OUCH!
-
Then you'll dig my latest sub-collection. Couple years ago I did the AMT '53 snapper right out of the box in polished white plastic, and then thought it might be fun to do a series of Corvette roadsters in polished white plastic with red interiors. I recently finished the second of the series, an AMT '59. Next up will be an AMT '63, and then either a Revell '68 or an MPC '75. I think I might have a white 4G promo around here somewhere--I'd have never bought such a thing, but I think I got one in a gang-buy with a couple other things I did want at the time.
-
Worst one I've tried to build lately was the AMT (ex-MPC) '69 Firebird. Knowing from the jump that it's pretty bad, I thought I'd Snake-slap one together doing only what's absolutely necessary to get it marginally acceptable looking for the shelf. Gave up after two evenings of body work--I just couldn't see any way to make it in any way acceptable to my eye without kitbashing it out of a Revell '69 Camaro body. I don't even like the '69 Firebird enough to go through all that.
