Kits they never issued- but should have
Snake45 replied to Paul Payne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I wish someone would give us a 2015+ Dodge Charger. Took them years to make the Charger not ugly, and now we can't have a model of it. -
I chopped .090" (about 2.5 scale inches) out of the chassis and glued it back together. That looks better! The removed slice is also shown.

Glad to see it got there, Chris. I told you it would eventually show up.

Is the real car an in-progress "project?" I believe it would need fenders and headlights to be a legal SR. As it sits, it would have to run in the Altered class, and I must say, it makes a pretty cool Altered.

Rustoleum Clear Gloss Lacquer
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks for the replies. I'll try it on something soon and report back. -
Stupidbird in its second coat of primer, now sitting on its own chassis (not the borrowed one) with the tires I'm planning on using. Cazart! The chassis wheelbase is too long! I noticed when I was setting it up that the underside details were a little different from those on the borrowed stocker chassis but didn't think too much about it, just assumed one was an original issue and one a later reissue, or something. Now I guess it's from some other JoHan Mopar. What, I wonder--the '68 Fury police car? At any rate, looks like I'll have to shorten it by a couple scale inches to look/fit right. Nothing is easy in this hobby, is it?

Saw this for the first time at Walmart today--Rustoleum Lacquer "High Lustre Coating." I've been looking for a clear lacquer in a spray can so I picked up a can. Anyone ever used this? Does it work and play well with model paints?

What, you don't think the cop is gonna hear the open, completely unmuffled exhaust? He'll probably hear the thing coming before his radar picks it up! Just kiddin' ya a little, old friend. I'm sure my entries are gonna draw comments, too. It's all good.

'65 Impala Stocker
Snake45 replied to Straightliner59's topic in Stock Cars (NASCAR, Super Stock, Late Model, etc.)
That's pretty cool! Model on! -
Those haven't been seen since the THE Cat issue of the late '60s. If the molds for the interior parts of the '65 Nova still exist, that one could be brought back. We have the chrome, the windows, the hood, and the body still has all the nameplates and trim; just need to "un-alter" the rear wheel openings, which shouldn't be too hard. Plop it all on the chassis from the new '63 Nova wagon, done deal!

Does Super Clean Wear Out, or Weaken?
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Interesting, thanks! -
Personally, I wouldn't go too low. Remember, this is for public highways across several states, not a nice clean race track. A little road clearance might be nice. (That's why I didn't drop Stupidbird lower in the front.) But it's YOUR model of course, so build it any way YOU want to. Drive on!

Does Super Clean Wear Out, or Weaken?
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Update: 2. After 72 hours, all the lime gold is gone, and about 40-50% of the underlying blue is also gone. Another 24 hours or so should take that off. 3. After 96 hours, 99% of the blue metallic and its underlying primer are gone, leaving just a few spots in tight spots to be scraped or sanded out, which shouldn't be a problem. I've put #1 back in the pond for its second 24 hours to remove its gray primer. -

Does Super Clean Wear Out, or Weaken?
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Many thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I appreciate it! Update: 2. After 48 hours, about half the lime gold is gone, revealing a third color underneath (a light blue or turquoise), and some of that is gone, too, exposing bare white plastic. I think maybe another 24-48 hours will take care of it. 3. After 72 hours, about 90-95% of the blue metallic paint is gone, along with the gray primer underneath it. I expect another 24 hours will get the last of it. So it looks like there is some "life" in this tub of SC after all. I wonder if a long squirt of Easy-Off oven cleaner in the tub would rejuvenate or perk it up any? (Both SC and EO are based on lye.) -
I wonder if that chassis would fit under a Lindberg '80 Mustang Cobra body? Hmmmmmm....

Still rounding up parts. Found a good rear end; will have to make springs. I have an unbuilt copy of this kit to use for patterns but the idea here is to see what I can do with leftovers, castoffs, and junk. Have figured out how to make the missing front spindle I need. Have found several possible BBC engines. Have found good rear wheels and tires and am narrowing down my possibilities for fronts. Am still deciding how to even out/shine up the existing paint. Hoping to get the chassis up on wheels in the next couple days, then I'll see where I am. I've since received a junk '65 Nova body and I'm gonna try to rehab that as a second body for the chassis, "Switchers" style. I'm a little bit amped about the whole thing at the moment.

Very cool! I can't see any ultra-rare or desirable goodies, but it looks like there are several possible interesting "projects" there, and of course a boatload of spare parts! Congratulations!

Very cool, and very well done! Is this basically the Piranha frame?

It was written back in March or May or something, not recently.

Does Super Clean Wear Out, or Weaken?

My experience with the purple pond has been that a 24 hour bath will either remove 90%+ of paint, or it won't remove it at all. Last few days I've tried to strip three new glue bomb bodies with mixed results. 1. A gray primer almost exactly the same color as the plastic underneath. Purple Pond took off maybe 30% of it after 24 hours. 2. A lime gold and burgundy two-tone. Purple pond took off the burgundy quite nicely, SOME but VERY LITTLE removal of the lime gold after 24 hours. (AMT lacquer, possibly? If so, that should come off in iso alcohol). 3. Some kind of metallic blue. 24 hours in purple pond removed only small, random patches of it, revealing gray primer underneath. After another 24 hours, maybe 30% of the blue is off, and about the same amount of underlying primer. Another 24-48 hours in the pond might very well get it all. My tub of Super Clean is about a year old, and has stripped a dozen bodies or so. Could it be getting weaker? Also, does temperature play a part? The pond is in the garage, which is currently a bit colder than "room temperature," maybe somewhere in the 40s. Would it work better if I brought it in the house? -
Street Outlaws, Fastest in America

Great season finale last Monday night! I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet. I wouldn't have been surprised if either team beat the other. But I was VERY surprised at the final score, 8-2. I thought sure this one would go 8-5 or 8-6, maybe even 8-7. But I don't believe any team all season ever came back from a 3-1 start, maybe not even from a 2-1 start. Looks like JJ will have a new car next season, a blue 1G Nova. Looks like Birdman has built a '69 Camaro to replace his totaled iconic 3G Firebird. I'm looking forward to the new season of the 405 starting this Monday. Been a while since we've seen what they're up to. -
Read it, very interesting. He used the words "illegal," "criminal" and "felon" so often it was over-the-top. I started wondering if he were using them satirically or ironically--or perhaps JUST so the website/publication couldn't be accused of condoning or encouraging the activity in any way, just for legal/liability reasons.
