  1. I haven't seen any of those. I think my favorite WWII movie is still A Bridge Too Far. I've lost count of how many times I've seen it, at least six or seven. And I've read the book at least four times, maybe more. Reading the book always makes me want to see the movie again and vice versa. What a fantastic story that was, and the movie is very true to the facts/the book, even if it's only able to hit highlights of that epic battle.
  2. I gotta shake my head when someone posts a question for which there's a whole thread already stickied at the top of the page, or another thread asking the same question right on the front page of the subforum at that very moment!
  3. It's on Showtimeanytime. Maybe they're keeping it for themselves for a year.
  4. I've posted many, many times here comments like "Not my build style at all (or, "I'm not wild about the color...") but there's no denying your outstanding craftsmanship." Sometimes a build is so well done it deserves a compliment, even if I don't particularly care for it personally. Does that offend anyone?
  5. My post seems to have been misinterpreted by some, including by my friend Steve G. I didn't say and wasn't implying that there was anything wrong with the topic, or with anyone's answer to it. Steve G is one of the board's very best builders. He builds factory stock '50s and '60s cars, or darn close to factory stock. Sometimes he uses some period-appropriate "Day 2" wheels and tires. He's good enough to build anything he wants, in any WAY he wants, and this is what he does, and he's extremely good at it. AFAIK he's universally respected here. (Especially by me.) His view on the topic was of no surprise to anyone, and no one's disputing him. I just found it odd/curious/interesting that he kept coming back to the discussion. It would be kind of like me seeing a thread on two baseball or basketball teams, and posting on the first page that I have no interest in baseball or basketball, and then coming back to the thread and posting again and again. I just thought it odd that Steve would invest any further time in the topic, that's all. I'm sorry if anyone here was offended by my amazement.
  6. I saw Netflix had Casino Royale available yesterday. Hadn't seen it since it first came out so I watched it again. I hadn't remembered a thing about it, so it was almost like seeing a "new" movie for me. Then I watched Quantum of Solace, which I'd never seen before. Man, the Bond movies just keep getting sillier and sillier. The fights, gunfights, and chases are spectacular--or at least I guess they would be if they'd slow 'em down a little so you could actually appreciate what's happening--but the plots get increasingly inane, implausible, and pointless. IMHO the Bond movies hit a peak with Thunderball and have been going downhill ever since. Now I'm watching Gran Torino again. That's a pretty good movie. Clint reminds me a lot of my own Late Great Dad. (They're the same age.) Then I'm gonna watch Enemy at the Gate again for the third or fourth or fifth time. That's an excellent movie!
  7. Learn to polish colored plastic and you can crank out nice models all winter long. That's what I do.
  8. The only thing I don't like about it is all the door/panel lines are quite wide. Otherwise, it's a very nice model.
  9. Yup, that's how to do it.
  10. Just since my favorite podcast seems to have been hacked and I couldn't hear it today, I gave this a try. I really did. Made it through maybe four or five songs. About a decade ago I got assigned to work with a girl who listened to this kind of thing on the radio all day long. I'm sure some of if must have been Pantera. I liked it well enough for four or five weeks and then I asked her, "can we listen to something else every other day?" Fortunately she liked all kinds of music and that was fine with her. I just couldn't stand all the SCREAMING unintelligible vocals anymore. I see what you mean about the guitar playing. I heard several licks that were brilliant, right up there with EVH himself. You have to wade through a lot of what sounds like a giant engine in the process of grinding itself to death to get to it, though, sadly. I had to cleanse my ears with Johnny Winter And.
  11. Thanks for the recommendation. I might give that a listen.
  12. If there's a promo available, I'd rather go that way anyway.
  13. Any model '56 Chevy I build won't have a front bumper, unless someone happens to commission me to build a model of a vintage Junior Stock or M/P drag car.
  14. I used the Phillips screwdriver on my Victorinox today to disassemble (and reassemble) a diecast for detailing, when my regular Phillips bit wouldn't fit. It was a lifesaver. I also used the blade to cut the tape on another diecast's box and free it from its cardboard and plastic sarcophagus. (There was tape on the inside packaging, too, holding it in--first time I've seen that!)
  15. You're not gonna like this, but I had to look up who that was. I've heard of Pantera but never owned any of their music. I couldn't swear in a court of law that I've ever heard any of it. I did build a model Pantera, though.
  16. Okay, I see the difference, but I'm not sure it would matter to me if I decide I need a Chevy pickup on my shelf. We're not required to be EQUALLY anal about EVERYTHING, you know.
  17. Very clean build, very nice! Well done and model on!
  18. Very clean build, very nice! Model on!
  19. Mine has been sitting on my computer desk looking toylike and dead since I bought it. In the mood for some Snake-Fu, I just peeled the tires off the wheels (not difficult on this one) to sand the treads, and while they were off I took the opportunity to hit the rims--JUST the rims, not the spokes--with my beloved Silver Sharpie, as well as the lug nuts. It made a WORLD of difference, really brought the thing to life! Now I need to find my long-shanked small Phillips screwdriver so I can try to do the amber turn signals and paint the black front plastic black, so it looks less like toy plastic. Onward!
  20. Yesterday I finished up the resto/rescue work on two '71 Dusters. Today I did all the Snake-Fu work on a diecast '79 Camaro that I didn't even know existed yesterday morning. That's four completed projects in the last eight days. Not a bad week at all!
  21. Do you take your Schrade when you go out shopping and elsewhere in real life? My Victorinox Swiss Army Adventurer and CRKT M16 go everywhere I go, except of course controlled areas such as courthouses and airport security areas.
  22. What offends you? You just said you're a model railroader and geriatric. Did I insult any such people? No. My impression is that Kalmbach serves this audience very well, and has for decades. FSM, which started out with such promise in the '80s, has degenerated into a "generalist" magazine. I notice you didn't have your SA subscription transferred to FSM so I gather you're not that impressed with it either. BTW, I"m a model car and airplane guy and a geriatric, too. Gimme a break.
  23. Yeah, and then make it a '68 while they're at it.
