It sounds like you're talking about Z/28 stripes, not "rally stripes."

What non-auto model did you get today?
Snake45 replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Gotta be a story about why a GMC truck is in the same picture with a Luftwaffe Ju-88. ETA: Found the answer: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/297659856614129960/ -

MPC Rat Trap Vega

Not much "Vega" left, is there? -
Clean it up, polish the plastic, do the chrome trim, carefully reassemble it and display it as the proud period survivor that it is. Maybe right next to my "Badman"-based gasser.

Among the very nicest I've ever seen were in the original JoHan '66 Marlin annual. Sadly, they weren't in the '80s reissues.

Dan Gurney '69 Trans-Am Mustang
Snake45 replied to Phildaupho's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Just since the OP seems to be MIA, and the thread has already drifted a little anyway, here's a nice diecast '69 Boss 301 in 1/25 I picked up a couple years ago. The front end looks better than even the revised Revell Boss parts IMHO. I'm planning to strip off all the bogus graphics and apply the Revell kit Boss 302 decals. Yah, I know, the blue's not a true factory color, but it's kinda-sorta in the ballpark of Acapulco Blue so I'll try to work with it if possible. If it works out, I'll proudly display it on my 1/25 Mustang shelf. Meanwhile, the plan is to use the improved Revell 301 front end parts on their earlier '69 Mach I kit and build the Mickey Thompson/Butch Leal Boss 429 Pro Stock. -
I can tell that you are positively moist with antici...........pation!

What non-auto model did you get today?
Snake45 replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Yup. Pretty much used to that now, too. Although it annoys me that once or twice a month, while turning the key, I'll electronically unlock the trunk, and then have to get out and go manually slam it shut again. I'm told my car is an exact double of the one driven by Uday Hussein, so I got THAT goin' for me. -

I'm beginning to understand why the power window buttons in my SAAB are in the console. (Though I have to admit, I've gotten quite used to them being there now.) -

Someday, someone's gonna have to explain to me the difference between the turretless S tank and the German "assault guns" (Stug III and IV, etc.) of WWII. -
Airbrushing future -- buffing out errors?
Snake45 replied to gjorenby's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I never had any luck polishing Future, which is one of the main reasons I don't use it. Wash it all off with household ammonia and try again--preferably this time with a product designed for that application. -
I'd buy one. But as soon as it was announced, the very next post would be "It shoulda been a '68!"

Announcing an all-new book on Model Car Kits....
Snake45 replied to tim boyd's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
You're right! Mine now says: Arriving Sep 22 - Sep 25 -
I've read at least one account from a guy who'd owned all the hot Mustangs of the day--Shelbys, Boss Nines and 302s, Mach Is, etc.--and he said that the Boss 351 was far and away the best street car of all of them. I believe him, and take him at his word. It seems like an exceptionally well balanced package. But the '71-'73s are still the ugliest Mustangs ever built, IMHO.

OldCarFan pointed out the correct nomenclature in the very first response to the question.

'65 Chevelle wagon and El Camino, '72 Nova, too.

You can base it on the engine and chassis of your '67-'68 Cougar, which of course should be introduced FIRST!

Me neither, which just about ensures that it will be THE MOST accurate kit Revell has done in decades, with none of the annoying eyesore flaws they included on their various Chevies!

Just got around to testing a nice old Crosman 38C pellet gun I bought off eBay a couple months ago. All the CO2 blew right through the barrel, so it's got one or more seals somewhere that need to be replaced. Shortly after I bought it, I got the shop manual for it, which should cover how to do this. Now I just need to find the seals. I'm hoping they're available. I've now collected five or six of these things. Last time I tested them, some held gas, some didn't. I need to test them all again and see if I have one that will shoot, and then set about re-sealing the rest. And I had SO hoped to do some shooting in my basement today!

Using a dimmer switch to slow your Dremel
Snake45 replied to Greg Myers's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I had an ancient Dremel as a kid. My dad had a plug-in speed controller in his wood shop. I tried it with the Dremel one day, and it blew the circuit breaker for the basement. I think there's some electrical reason for this but electricity might as well be a foreign language to me. At any rate, I never tried it again. -
Forgot to update The Lovely Mrs. Snake's car registration problem. Our appointment was last Wednesday. We were told to show up a half hour early, which we did, and were seen almost immediately--no "line" at all. There seemed to be some kind of glitch and a supervisor had to be called over, but they sorted it out quickly and we were on our way with new valid stickers in about 20 minutes. She has until the end of the year to get the smog test done (the local facility is still closed, but hopefully will be open sometime between now and then), and then she's good until November 2021. It all could hardly have gone more smoothly. Which of course pleased me.
