Looks like they even took Alphonso off Youtube...all you can see of him now is a hand-held home video copy of the thing. And now that you mention it, he was MIA for most of "pride month," too!

T.V. car/truck goofs. Mistakes Ect....
Snake45 replied to ranma's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I hate that, too. Also the sound of brass hitting the ground, when the ground is grass or sand or dirt or even (indoors) carpeting. Kinda like hearing car tires squealing on grass or dirt or mud or gravel. And it seems like some of these guys chirp the tires every time they go anywhere, even just to lunch. The ABSOLUTE WORST example of this I ever saw was in the movie Pearl Harbor, where the B-25s are practicing short-field takeoffs. When the airplanes start off, the tires chirp! This is impossible, as AIRPLANE TIRES AREN'T CONNECTED TO ANY KIND OF MOTOR!!! They just roll or brake. (They can chirp on landing, but that's a different dynamic entirely.) -
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I do believe that is the kindest description I've ever heard for a glue bomb! Don't be surprised if I totally steal that for myself in the future.

Is Mo Tor that half man, half-motorcycle thing? Yeah, that's kinda creepy.

It's 1/24. Review and discussion from a couple years ago:

Well they finally replaced it this week. The new one features a goldfish singing opera. It was funny exactly ONCE. It's almost as bad as that Progressive one where that "Jamie" guy (?) leaves himself a phone message about his "Mad Harmonies" acapppella group. That annoying piece of dung has been playing regularly for four or five years now, though not three times an hour like the GEICO one.

International Tractor found on USS Hornet After 76 years
Snake45 replied to ranma's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I just thought it had a cool seat back. Shows what I know about tractors. -
I don't even like Coke. I swear I can actually feel my teeth rotting if I drink it. (Which I don't, if I know what it is.) I much prefer Pepsi, RC, or even Walmart/generic stuff. Actually I don't like any of them if they have sugar in them. I've been drinking the "diet" stuff so long that sugar sodas leave an aftertaste in my mouth for hours. True story: A couple decades ago in Sodom-on-the-Potomac (Washington DC), there were several well-known, well-respected restaurants, bars, and clubs owned by the same guy. You knew you were in one of "his" joints when you saw the words "We do not serve Coca-Cola products" on the menus, napkins, Specials boards, behind the bar, or anywhere else in the place. It might have even been on the front door, I don't remember. I finally found out the story. At some point in the distant past, there was a Coke representative drinking in there, and the guy next to him ordered a "rum and Coke," and he saw the bartender make the drink with some kind of soda that WASN'T Coke. The Coke guy raised an enormous stink with the management. A lawsuit was threatened, perhaps even filed. The owner swore that NEVER AGAIN would he have ANY Coca-Cola products on his premises EVER. And he never did!

Yes, better, but it doesn't fit perfectly. Here are two built AMT '69 Chevelle models. The one on the right is an original built in 1969 and restored in 2014. The one on the left is a reissue started in the early '90s and finally finished also in 2014. It is fitted with an original annual 1969 rear bumper and taillights from another original '69 annual.

Looking for an orange/red paint color
Snake45 replied to johnny rocket's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Let me know if it works for you. If it doesn't, it gives you a good excuse to buy and build some kind of Ferrari model. -

I still say Model Master Italian Red would be a pretty good match for that. -

Very nice! Is this a Frog kit? I have a very vague recollection of this airplane being offered in the Renwal "Aero-Skin" line, too. Just googled it and I rememered it correctly: https://www.oldmodelkits.com/index.php?detail=19565 -
I look forward to seeing this in its new drag car incarnation! Drive on!

I thought the same thing, then looked closely, and I THINK I see them molded in there, but I'm not sure.

I just checked a Model King Cougar body against the "new" AMT '67 Cyclone. The Cyclone's wheelbase is definitely longer than the Cougar's. Maybe 3 scale inches max, but definitely not as much as the 5 inches it "should" be. We know that the real Eliminator I and II bodies were of stock dimension (116"), but I don't know if the Cougars were stretched. (Maybe a couple inches in the nose?) At any rate, since I'm planning to "un-alter" the wheelbase of the AWB Cyclone body, I can probably get away with fudging it a couple inches--it'll still look better than the WAY shortened wheelbase of the AWB body. It looks like the best way to proceed with my project will be to build the frame FIRST, and then set the Cyclone body up to match it. Remember, I'm doing one chassis for both cars, as Nicholson put a Cougar body on Eliminator II's chassis after his first Cougar was destroyed in a highway accident. (Others wanting to do Eliminator II might want to start with a different chassis.) Interesting trivia: I've been working on writing an article comparing the amazing similarities in the careers of Grumpy Jenkins, Dyno Don, Sox & Martin, and Dick Landy (all four were in on FX, went separate ways in 1966, but came back together at the birth of Pro Stock in 1970). Jenkins, S&M, and Nicholson all had very successful cars destroyed in highway accidents between 1966 and 1969. Landy didn't, but he DID break his leg in a motorbike accident 4th of July weekend, 1969. Interesting, no?

If you want a nice quick and easy Vette project, pick up one of the Revell '63 snappers. I've done four of them now and haven't even painted them, just polished the plastic. They sit proudly on my shelf with my "good" builds.

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
So that's four in so far. Spottedlaurel, your '65 Corvette looks like a fine project. I have one of these almost ready for paint and need to drag it out for one of these sooner or later. BTW, I just took a count and it looks like the BOYD builds have resulted in 54 models completed that probably wouldn't have been without this project. That makes me VERY happy! Let's keep it going, gang--GITTER DONE! -
From what I can see, they're WAY better than all the backbirth AMT reissues, but probably not as good as the original AMT annual pieces.
-
You have some nice stuff. There are several here I'd like to see more of.
-
Not bad at all! I built one of those a few years ago and I recall the final assembly of all the fiddly bits to be quite time-consuming and tedious. Yours came out nice! Well done and model on!

Looking for an orange/red paint color
Snake45 replied to johnny rocket's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Pontiac Carousel Red is exactly the same as Chevy Hugger Orange. It's a very bright orange, though very slightly redder than Testor Competition Orange. IMHO too orange for this use. -
Here's the completed chassis, with engine, just to prove that it DOES have an engine in it (many of my curbside-ish models don't). You'll notice a few things missing like the distributor. I was scrambling to GITTER DONE for the deadline of the BOYD Completion Build Round 7 yesterday. I might circle black later and add all the little junk. The chassis is mainly from the AWB Comet Cyclone, with rear axle and suspension from the Mustang (it just worked better). Engine is from the Cyclone, with 2x4 intake and carbs from the AMT '68 Shelby Mustang. Enjoy the velocity stacks on the carbs--turns out they wouldn't fit under the hood, even with the teardrop bulge, so they had to come off. Wheels are from the AWB Mustang. Tires are from the goodie box. The interior tub and everything in it is from the AWB Mustang. The kit only comes with one bucket seat, so I "borrowed" a second one from another copy of the kit just in the interest of "streetability." See you Under Glass soon, I hope! (Sneak preview pics in the BOYD thread.) Thanks for watching and cheering me on with this!
