Get some Micro Superfilm. A bottle will last a lifetime. I've started using the stuff on ANY old decals when I even THINK they might give me problems. Be sure to use it BEFORE you cut them from the backing. If you cut them first and then seal them, you'll play hell getting them off the backing paper.

Very, VERY clean build, nicely done! Reminds me a lot of the one I built when this kit first came out. I remember it as one of the easiest, fastest, most troublefree model car builds I've ever done. Well done and model on!

'67 Shelby GT350 Custom (8 Apr *Under Glass*)
Snake45 replied to taaron76's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Nicely done, having the doors open inside the fenders instead of swinging out. Most guys opening doors get this little detail wrong. -
Yeah, I did some google-shopping and most prices I saw seemed to be in that range. So I guess it's "right." Wow.

Gremlins in model building (not AMC type).
Snake45 replied to ranma's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Lost parts? Feh. My gremlin is stealing/hiding/cloaking whole kits. I'll go to build or even just look at a kit I know I have, and it's gone! Disappeared! Vanished! And I KNOW I saw it RIGHT OVER THERE just THE OTHER YEAR. Where is it? Latest victim is a Monogram '66 Chevelle I've had since the '70s. And now it's GONE! Oh well, I'm sure it'll turn up when I'm looking for something else and have lost all interest in it. Sigh. -
The price on the sticker is $21.99. I haven't opened the box yet, nor taken the receipt out of the bag. If it turns out the price was wrong, I'll take it back for adjustment. Thanks for the heads-up.

That's too bad. Didn't he have the great line "Marines, we are LEAVING!" in Aliens? Or was that the other guy?

Next up from Moebius ?
Snake45 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm not getting the love for the '71-'74 Javelin. Not only were they the ugliest of the breed (ducking now!), but JoHan did them and there are plenty of reissues around at somewhat reasonable prices. Now, a '68-'70, you could put me down for a few! -
If you're not depressed enough yet: Got any old Hot Rod or Rod & Custom mags from the '60s you enjoy looking through? All those hotties in bikinis and miniskirts and go-go boots posed with the cars? They're now all in their 70s.

Only "new" thing at Hobby Lobby this week was the AMT 1/32 '65 Mustang fastback. Since I might never see another one, and since they didn't have anything else I don't already have three of, I bought it. $14 with the coupon! YIKES! wasn't that originally a 99c kit? Also got a 1/24 diecast '70 El Camino SS at Walmart. Hadn't seen that before. Haven't played with it yet, but it looks fairly decent (for the price) in the box. We'll see.

Just when you think you've seen [Ed McMahon Voice] EVERY POSSIBLE VARIATION [/Ed McMahon Voice] of a Fad T, along comes someone like you to kick the sides out of "the box." Drive on!

Interesting! I suppose you know that Maisto has a rather nice "1/24" diecast '66 Chevelle, but I just checked mine and it's nearly a perfect match sizewise with an AMT '67 1/25 body, so I guess it's more 1/25 than 1/24. There have been mutterings for years that the Monogram '66 Chevelle is actually closer to 1/25 than 1/24, too. Just since I'd like to measure it, of course I can't FIND mine right now, but I remember a few years ago I was contemplating a kitbash to get a '67 El Camino from the Revell '66 with their '67 Chevelle front end on it. Wondering, as I always do, what to do with the leftovers, I held the Revell '67 Chevelle body up to the back end of the Monogram '66 and discovered they were nearly identical in width--which means I could graft the rear end of the Monogram '66 onto the Revell '67 body and then use whichever '66 front end (Revell Elky or Monogram '66) seemed to fit best. By doing this I'd sidestep the problem of fitting and attaching that pesky Monogram flip front end AND dodge its flattened, caved-in looking roof at the same time. Someday I will get around to doing this double-organ-swap conversion, I swear!

Fabulous! I could actually work with whatever's left of the original and re-build up the edges (unless you're planning to GRIND the WHOLE thing out), since I'm not interested in retaining the opening feature, I just need the gaping hole filled. Or a fiberglass or resin copy would do me just fine too, of course. Let me know what you want in trade. I think someone else was looking for a '61 trunk lid too not too long ago.

Building a '70 Chevrolet El Camino?
Snake45 replied to echoxrayniner's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Just got back from Walmart, where I bought a Motor Max diecast '70 El Camino in bright red with black stripes, SS (Mag 500) wheels. 1/24-ish. Hadn't seen these before. Looks good in the box, but I haven't taken it out and played with it yet. If, like me, you'd like a '70 Elky on your shelf, but not enough to trash two whole other kits and do all the work, this just might scratch your itch. I think it will mine. -
Well THAT's certainly eye-catching! Well done and model on!

Very interesting! I don't think I've ever seen one of these built, so I'll be following along.

Very classic looking!

Looking very, very good! I started down a very similar path two or three decades ago and then lost interest when Lindberg came out with a nice kit. Yours is coming along quite nicely!

It looks like the wheels in your pic are in the Revell Foose '67 Coronet (as Can-Con suggested):

Tasca and Bob Ford Thunderbolts. Now a dual build
Snake45 replied to gtx6970's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Beautiful paint and finish! When I contemplate doing a job like that, it makes me want to take a nap. Were the engines on these Ford Blue in 1964? For some reason I have it in my head that that color didn't come in till '66. But maybe that was just for the small blocks. (Then again, I had a friend who had a restored '65 T-bird and that engine was black with gold valve covers and air cleaner.)
