That's pretty much what I had in mind. Plus Silver-Sharpie the window framing, and perhaps a coat of hand-brushed Future to give it a little gloss. The paint seems smooth, even, and thin, but not particularly shiny. I don't remember if it has dark tinted glass. I put it back in the large box it's been living in for a quarter-century (which it under four or five other boxes), but for some reason, ever since I put it back away, it's been on my mind. Maybe I'll dig it back out this weekend and take a closer look.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that's what it is, judging from the vintage of the other models I bought out of that collection--nearly all seemed to be mid/late '80 MPC and JoHan reissues, very common at that time, now many of them are desirable collector items. Thanks to all for the comments and kit information. Much appreciated!

Ronin! Would you believe I've been trying to think of that title for two hours! Maybe the best chase ever NOT involving American V8 muscle....

While looking for something else in the Snakepit the other day, I ran across a fairly cleanly built MPC ’74 Charger (almost certainly an ‘80s reissue) I bought from an estate about 25 years ago. It has a fairly nice light metallic green paint job and I’m thinking it might be a good “survivor resto” quick & easy (therefore, fun!) slump-buster project. I can’t find hardly anything about this kit. Is considered in any way desirable by today’s standards? Any major flaws I should look at fixing (as long as I can do so without disturbing the paint that’s on it)? It’s got some kind of trick ‘80s aftermarket wheels on it. I think I have a spare set of Magnum 500s around. Would they be appropriate for a ’74 Charger? (And no, I’m not especially interested in trading or selling it.)

According to the thread title, it's MPC. At least that's the way I interpreted it.

Haven't seen one built in decades, and maybe NEVER one in person. You did a fine, fine job with the old kit! Drive on!

Aren't "leftover parts" builds just the best?

Some of the mid-'60s AMT and MPC cars had taller, thinner tires than the Firestone Supremes (et al) that eventually became the "standard." I have a few of these in my stash but I'm holding on to them for the front ends of my own drag builds. (Also, beware, because some of these have the dreaded "melts styrene" problem.) -
AMT '63 Vette is a fabulous slump-buster. You can do just about anything you can imagine to it, and as much or as little detail as you want, and chances are you'll end up with a very satisfactory model.

Now, of course, you need a white one to make an All-American Team! How about a '67 Pace Car convertible? A little more work, but totally worth it.... If that's too much, maybe a '67 Z/28. Many of those were white. Again, you'll have to do some kitbashing, but image how the three would look together!

What kind of car? This might make a difference, believe it or not. -

Looking at this thread again inspired me to dig into the Snakepit for a builtup I bought over 20 years ago and slot it into the schedule for restoration. That's about the highest praise I can give. -
Wouldn't ML be 1050?

THAT'S what I'm talkin' about! Somebody build that!

That's a pretty good example of what I mean. You look at it and it's obviously a TRantula, but it's also obviously NOT a TRantula anymore. Just out of curiosity, have you decided on a color for that yet? I mean, will you be staying with TRantula Puke Green to maintain its "heritage," or will you be going in some completely different direction like red or black to make a bold "departure" statement? I've seen a few interesting things done with Silhouette that would fall into this category. I've got an idea for the AMT Surf Woody that might qualify as well. Other good candidates for this kind of thing would be Lil Coffin, Predicta, Orange Hauler, and some of the Roth stuff.

I had another idea: How about re-customizing well-known customs? The idea is to take something like the original Batmobile, Munster Koach, Monkeemobile, etc., and make something completely your own from it, but whose origins are still unmistakable. The idea is harder and more subtle than it sounds.

Dunno about their cars, but their most recent reissue of the ex-ESCI, ex-AMT AD-4 Skyraider had a jaw-dropping price. And not in a good way.

Here's another one that's gonna "take some getting used to." It almost looks like if Buick had built a ponycar.... Interesting, though. Drive on!

Interesting. What exactly is it?

You might be onto something. I watched the first five or six seasons of Ice Road Truckers on the Hitler Channel. Most of the drivers on that show were Canadian, but the only one I ever noticed with what I'd call a "Canadian accent" was Alex Debigorski. And even with him, you almost had to listen for it to hear it. I think there were a couple Canadian crews on Axe Men and I only caught a couple of "Canadianisms" from a few of those fellows, too.
