Nothing wrong with a quick slump-buster build, and you did a fine job with it! Anyone else ever notice that that bubbletop is just a P-51D Mustang canopy turned backwards?

One "genre" I can think of that hasn't been done to death, either in real life or model form, would be Can-Am/road racing/GT prototype cars turned into street cruisers. Ford did a few GT40s for the street, called MKIIIs, but I haven't seen many if other things of this type. Would be fun to see something like a Lola T70 or a Chaparral 2D tamed into a street-legal highway cruiser.

I like this a lot. There was one of these in my town when I was a kid, it was gray. I've often thought of doing a model like this, and "rodding" it a little. I'll be watching your build!

35 Yr. Old Monogram 69 Camaro SS-Now "Under Glass"-07/20

Beautiful work! MUCH too good, in fact, for the body of that kit! -
I LOVE rebuild/restoration projects! Nice work so far and Drive On!

I like what I see so far. Drive on!

Here ya go--the start of the process so far, anyway: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/120515-survivor-resto-original-first-issue-monkeemobile/

Well, Brit Hugh Laurie spoke perfect "American" on House, and Andrew Lincoln and half of the rest of the cast of Walking Dead are Brits doing very passable American accents.

And I can name you two US-born network news anchors who had to retire or go on "sabbatical" for a while for telling flat-out lies on air. They were "fake news" before fake news was cool.

Future Polish Uncertainty
Snake45 replied to MikeyB08's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yup. That's why I stopped using Future as a final finish. You can do so much better with so many other products. Confession: I will still occasionally hand-brush a coat of Future on an old model I'm just fixing up a little or "restoring" without a complete repaint/rebuild, if I just want a little shine on the thing but don't really need a Class A finish. -
Babe...I got you babe.....

Divided by a common tongue
Snake45 replied to DonW's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, I remember Jimmy Fallon and Rachel Dratch doing some SNL characters a few years ago who did that. -
Bill's (GTX6970) recent Monkeemobile build inspired me to dig out the one I built as a kid. I think I got it for Christmas 1966, but I might be wrong about that. Anyway, I painted the naked body with a couple coats of Pactra Candy Pagan Gold in an attempt to brighten and shine up the red plastic somewhat, and hand-brushed several coats of Testor little bottle white on the seats, upholstery, and top, and some brushed Testor Brown on the carpet and dash. The top also got a couple coats of hand-brushed Testor Dullcote. Here's what's left of the thing. The wheels and tires are missing, as is the rear axle, and the shift lever. Everything else is still here, though the windshield frame has been bent down a bit from years in storage. All things considered, though, should be salvageable. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/Snake45/Model%20Cars/Monkeemobile/MonkeemobileA12_zpsopwxjkeh.jpg[/IMG] The wheels/tires and differential may eventually turn up in the Snakepit (probably after I've moved on to some other project). In the meantime, I “borrowed” the complete chassis out of a mint reissue, glued the differential together, and painted the whole mess with a quick coat of Walmart Flat Black primer. Couple hours trimming molding tabs and flash off the reissue's Cragars, and a trip to the Snakepit parts box for some big-and-bigger Goodyears, and presto, the sad little model is back up “on its feet” for the first time in at least 30 years—maybe 40, I don't remember. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/Snake45/Model%20Cars/Monkeemobile/MonkeemobileA21_zpssxg7yqol.jpg[/IMG] Next step will be a cleanup/touchup of the interior, polishing the glass, and then a cleanup, retrim, and general reassembly of the body. There might be a coat or two of hand-brushed Future involved. The trick with one of these “survivor restos” is knowing how to NOT go too far and turn it into a complete rebuild. There seems to be little point in a complete rebuild when the reissues are common and cheap. More to come, I hope....

Good call. I had both of those in mind. Not classics, but not bad for current TV. Remember Alcatraz on FOX three or four years ago? The copchick on that drove a '68 Mustang Bullitt clone. And in the last episode, they more or less recreated the Bullitt chase.

Is that what it's aboot?

Painting small parts, brush or spray?
Snake45 replied to Bullitt's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I never paint anything on the tree/sprue. You have to get it off there to get the molding lines (and, all too often these days, flash) off of it. I'll both hand-brush and airbrush small parts, depending on what they are, what color they need, how prominent they'll be on the finished model, the phase of the moon, and my general mood at the time. -
But he didn't intuit that as soon as the thing broke contact with the ground, the chassis would immediately start counter-rotating, killing half of whatever "lift" was being generated, and it would immediately sit right back down. Unless of course you could figure some way for the "screw" to be powered independently, such as some early helicopters that had tiny jets or ramjets on the tips of the rotors. Otherwise, you need some sort of anti-torque provision.

Wrap it up, I'll take it!

I didn't. See above.

Did the cars ever appear on the show? I thought the TV show was much later, like in the '70s.
-
I've had pretty much the same idea about Bob Dylan.

It looks like there are several paths to the top of this particular mountain! And that's a GOOD thing!

I just thought of a great one we'd all overlooked: The Prisoner's Lotus!

Curbside doesn't bother me. In fact, I prefer it. Is it no worse than the Testor Pantera? I built that and am more or less satisfied with it. Is it better than the ESCI SWB 250? I have that one (AMT boxing) and it makes me almost vomit every time I think about maybe building it.
