Since neither of those are factory '63 colors, I assume you're not going Factory Stock with it? Any way you go, this kit is a FUN build. I've restored one original 1963 annual and might be finishing up a second original this weekend. And I've got several of the reissues (of various vintages) for parts for a number of '64-'67 AMT Vettes I'm restoring or completely rebuilding. Anything you need or need to know about these things, feel free to ask. I've done a buttload of research on them in the last few months.

Very clean work!

I've airbrushed that stuff for a couple decades now and just love it. I've been using Krylon Satin Black but my can is now almost empty and Walmart doesn't carry Krylon anymore (mostly Rustoleum) and Hobby Lobby doesn't have the Satin Black in their Krylons. I tried the Rustoleum Semigloss black and it does okay over primer but will etch naked styene. I did a (primed) Corvette interior in it and it looked okay but days later still felt a bit "gummy" like it wasn't fully cured. Since it was "just" an interior I didn't worry too much about it but I wouldn't use it for a black primer final finish. I guess for that I'll keep airbrushing the Model Master Black Chrome Trim.

Nice clean build! And for once I don't have to ask what the paint is, because I just did a '69 Camaro in the same paint.

They're probably the most hella-cool looking shotguns ever made, but I read too many test-fires where they didn't seem to work all that well, and decided to stick with the time-tested Rem 870.

They seem to be the American-type mags that have been in most if not all reissues of the AMT '63 Vettes.

Now there's an idea.

Okay, I'll try to get pics of my front pan mod taken this weekend so at least you can get that goin' for ya. I have Monday off so I might have time to do it then.

Oh no, please don't waste any of that nice photoetch stuff on that Monogram Camaro. Save it for a good Revell build.

Nice shine! But what really caught my eye was your gas cap. That REALLY came out sharp! BTW, when was this kit last reissued? I think the coupe has been out two or three times since the roadster was last seen.

A man after my own heart! I have its twin, and a complete set of original '66 custom parts. I'm going to put the custom frameless windshield on it, and build it as the kit Custom version--airfoil roll bar, funky side exhausts, custom grill, triple taillights and all. Also doing a '65 as the road race version, and will do another '66 as factory stock. And after all that, I might have enough junk left over to do a '66 as a dragster or street rat. A '65 body with the funky '66 Custom parts mocked up on it: The '65 body with '66 road racing parts including that groovy tonneau/driver (for slot car use).

Same here. I wasn't planning to buy the reissued '60 or '75 Corvettes, but now I own new copies of both.

I have one of those. I was halfway through building it as Jenkins' Grumpy's Toy VI (had it painted and had started decals) when the Revell '69 Yenko was announced. I stopped work on it immediately and put it back in the box and I haven't seen it since. Would like to find it--I'd like to finish it as an imaginary early Pro Stock or MP in Testor Emerald Green flake, kinda sorta like Wally Booth's (though not an exact replica).

Maybe not. The fender vents look fine. If the emblems survive the Lye Swim (and they should), then that just leaves the rocker panels. And the factory side exhaust became available in '65, which covers most of the rocker, so if your rockers are glue-roached (which they probably are), you can cover them with the exhausts. The AMT Vette roadster kit had separate seats for the first time in '65 (and the last time in '67), so you got THAT going for ya--will be much easier to strip and restore the guts if you can get the seats out. (I just resto-ed a '67 Coupe with 1-piece tub and ended up just squirting the whole hot mess in satin black.) I'm not giving up on you YET, old friend....

Wow. I'm not often tempted to use the word "awesome" here (or anywhere else, for that matter), but it might be appropriate in this case. Drive on!

As I mentioned, I've built three of these. After the first one, I figured out that narrowing the front pan and tucking it in a bit improved the look of the whole body about 100 percent. I did that on the second and third I built. I'll try to get some photos of them shot sometime so you can see what I mean. On another net site, I saw where someone built a '67 Impala 4-door using a Camaro roof. It didn't look half bad. Couple months ago at the local toy show I picked up a glue-bomb Mono '69 Camaro for this use. I want to do a '67 2-door Biscayne or Bel Air. Looking at it carefully, the Camaro roof shape isn't exactly right for this, but it's kinda-sorta in the ballpark. I'm gonna do it anyway--as a "phantom" if necessary. (There's something wrong with the roof on the AMT '67 Impala anyway.) In other news, Revell has a 1/32 '69 Camaro that was obviously made from the same masters as the Monogram 1/24. Bought one at Walmart last year. Sorry for the sidetrack. We now return you to Mustang89's very interesting rebuild project....

My Mom would get those calendars too. At the end of the year the old one became a kitchen hand towel. I don't know if they're still in the family or not.

George, that sweet '65 looks like a walk in the park. For a real challenge, try this original annual '63 coupe.

Yup. It's a coin flip as to which is the bigger backbirth of a '69 Camaro, the Monogram kit or the even older MPC...and yet I've built three of one and five of the other. What is it about these wretched hot messes that draw us to them? I'll be watching too.

Dunno where I got the American connection. Maybe American did a knockoff of them. I THINK I saw them in an ad, but it might have been a photo caption. I do remember being delighted to find them. I was working on restoring an old AMT T at the time and wondering if those wheels were "real" or not. When I found out they were in fact real, I used them. And then dug another set out of a newer reissue to use in that '63 Vette restoration.
