With wheels remember that the visible diameter of the metal wheel is about 1.5" larger than the tire size. So a wheel for 15" tire has a 16.5" diameter

Sounds like they got hacked.

I'm sure that email was full of clues (other than the arrow). Well, the first huge clue is that you *DIDN'T* apply for their credit card. The other important clues are that if you hover over any links or buttons in that email, you should see that the URLs the links are pointing to are unrelated to amazon. Most browsers show what the "true" links are when you hover over the visible links. If you use a smart phone -- I have no clue how they work. Another good reason to use a "real" computer for Internet surfing. You make it sound like a big deal. To me SPAM and scam emails are way of life - I expect several a day (although my email provider is getting better and better at filtering them out). And yes, the people sending them out are often very good as figuring out how to fool many people. There are millions of dollars to be made on scams. Id there was no money in it, they would stop sending those emails. But I'm glad that you figured out it was a scam, and took the time to report it. However, I'm 100% sure that the perpetrators will not be caught. It is just too easy to disappear on the World Wide Web. Sad, but true.

Good to know. As for the LED retrofits, I have stated my opinion about them in my LED headlight rant earlier in this thread (I agree with you). But I'm ok with using LED retrofit bulbs for taillights and parking lights/directionals.

Thanks Riley - like I mentioned, I picked up a set from Rock Auto website last year. Yes, they are the quad 4"x 6" headlights. But since composite headlights were permitted in U.S. in mid-'80s (around 35 years ago), the sealed beam headlights will get more and more scarce.
-
Are they still available in car parts stores? I recently ordered the ones for my '85 Caddy online from Rock Auto.
-
True, but unless physically damaged, LEDs should last much, much longer than any incandescent headlight.

Speaking of headlights, probably 50% (or more) of today's vehicles have those eyeball-frying LED headlights., I hate those at night! Likely because they have very sharp beam cutoff when a car goes over the bumps, it seems like they flashing hi-beams. They also seem much brighter than incandescent headlights, so much so that they often blind me, and I can't see the road ahead of me. Ford trucks seem to be the worst, but pretty much all the vehicles with LED headlights are really annoying. While the bright light might be beneficial to the owners, it is very bad for the oncoming drivers. I thought that there used to be strict rules on things like the the shape of the projected beam, and the Lumens emitted. It seems that the rules don't exist anymore - the brighter is better! And don't get me started on aftermarket LED headlight retrofits. Most of those should be illegal, but the law enforcement seems to ignore them.

I'm discovering hashtags on Instagram

LOL! There is no need to use your fingers to zoom while using your PC and view the contents on a 28" computer monitor! I always chuckle seeing people doing web browsing on their 6" screens. But then again, I don't yet use a smart phone. Well, I do own an unactivated Tracfone I use as a model railroad throttle at some train layouts that use JMRI over WiFi. -
That is like apples and oranges. While they might have problems, they are not a magazine publisher who is shrinking their printed magazine.

I know - I also notice that all the time. It also seems that the more expensive car is (which means it has all the bells-and-whistles) the better chance there is that the driver either holds the smart phone up to their ear, or has it on the steering wheel while texting. But also remember that while all the technological features you mentioned are very helpful, it is still distracting during driving. It is more distracting than a live conversation you would have with a passenger sitting next to you. The bottom line is that it is still better to forgo any of those types of activity while driving. one really needs to concentrate on what is going on all around us, especially with all the nutz on the road. If something is urgent enough to require an immediate attention, pull over and then text or call all you want.

NO KIDDING! Things in today's world are totally out of control!

European Corvette? Nice! I again learned something new on this forum. Dare I say that it looks more elegant than the U.S. Corvettes. It has that svelte "continental" sports car look. -
Tamiya TS65 Pearl Clear questions
peteski replied to bh1701's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
One would have assumed that TS-65 is simply TS-13 with some pearl powder mixed in, but from what you mentioned it seems that TS-65 uses different clear base? That is odd. -
Being discussed in the General section in the Official Ebay Thread (pinned).

For those not afraid to click on external links, and who also want to get more technical details, here are couple of links covering the subjects I mentioned: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_rendering_index https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_temperature Since in our hobbies we deal extensively with colors, I believe it is beneficial to educate ourselves on the related subjects.

David, are you saying that even though you never had a top-loader, your wife wanted one (but couldn't get it)? So you got that LG front-loader and it stinks. That means that your previous (front-loader) washers worked well?

I've been FSM subscriber for over 30 years and yes, the printed edition has gotten really slim. They provide most of the "real" contents online (not I don't go there). I'm thinking of dropping the paid subscription since my whole reason to subscribe was a nice "fat" paper magazine which I prefer to read on paper instead of a computer screen. Even with 6 issues, I highly doubt that the printed version will get any more pages. They are really pushing the online articles. This really stinks, but everybody seems to be ditching the printed magazines and going to online version. Few more years and printed version will go the way of horse and buggy.

You could laser-cut micro-plywood into pickup truck beds, and flat-bed trailers wooden decks. Not sure if anybody else is doing this type of thing.

Interesting. I have been noticing in general that more women than man drive very aggressively around my area. Used to be the other way around.

LOL Thomas, The Maytag Corporation is an American home and commercial appliance brand owned by Whirlpool Corporation. Just like with everything else (cars food, etc), appliance companies acquire other appliance companies or merge. Hard to be loyal to certain brand when it is no longer a standalone product.

The CRI info is hit and miss. For a while most LED bulbs and lamps had a common type of label which looked like this: But lately it seems that it has not been used as much. Too bad because that label had all the important facts on it. Just today I bought a replacement fluorescent tube (not LED) for over-the-sink light in my kitchen. That one has CRI of 90. And color temperature 3000K Color temperature is also another parameter to look for. Lower numbers (Like 2600K) are more yellowish (warm), and higher numbers (like 6000K) are more harsh bluish light. Some people prefer the warm white while others like the more start cool white. 3000K is sort of in the middle. Neither yellow, nor blue. It is similar type of white light emitted by halogen incandescent bulbs.
-
When shopping for LED or fluorescent lightning it is important to find out its Color Rendering Index (CRI). That is how well the light will render all the colors. Anything over 90 is good, below that, no so much. Low-CRI light sources will make some colors appear dull (in my experience especially reds). Not very good when we use all sorts of colors on our models. Many (but not all) lights or lamps will have their CRI value mentioned on the packaging.

Laser cut automotive kits?! There are plenty in the model railroading hobby (mostly structures and car loads), but I never heard of any laser-cut scale kits of vehicles. Because of the nature of laser-cut materials (mostly stiff flat wood sheets), the compound curves of automobiles cannot be modeled very well. Maybe you meant "paper models"? I supposed those could also be laser cut and bent, folded, or shaped fairly well to represent complex curved surfaces.

Thanks Dave, it makes more sense to see who felt the need to respond to a post.
