If the Tamiya paint underneath is fully cured, you might be able to remove most of it without too much damage to the blue underneath. Go slow, use a gentle touch and see what happens. You can always go back and use more aggressive grits if the finer stuff isn't working. Then, a trunk repaint.

    I wouldn't use paint thinner at all in this case. 

    yeah gonna sand down and repaint the immediate area.

    Chances are high that even if that works, you may at least have to clear coat to even the color.

     

    By the way, you have the same problem at the base of the B-pillar where the white bled under the tape.

    yeah, I'll probably chrome that part by B pillar 

    don't have any mineral spirits, I'll probably mask off the immediate area and sand with a fine grit and respray

    No matter what paint you used, thinner will react with it.... To some degree!

    If that's paint from the roof, if krylon is sandable, wet sanding with a flat block is a start. Then blend the trunk. IMO

    probably what I'll wind up doing 

  4. any ideas on how to fix this without stripping the whole trunk, I don't think there's enough blue left in the can for that, I was thinking of a q-tip dipped in thinner, or mask it off and use the little paint that's left and just spray over it

    yeah mine too, although I had a can of tamiya pearl blue and thought I mite as well use it.

    the rest will be airbrush, I will use spoons and old body to get some practice

    I believe that they used a promo interior tub from a 1965 Chrysler 300.

     

    Unfortunately, as has been discussed on this forum many times, the vast majority of Johan kits will almost certainly never return for a number of reasons, so in order to build one of these kits, you will likely have to rely on finding a vintage kit or re-builder.

    In order for this kit to ever return, someone would have to produce an all new tooling, which is highly unlikely.

    The only other options are if the original tooling would happen to still exist, which is probably not the case, or if someone were to offer it as a 3-D print.

     

    I was lucky enough to acquire this kit in a trade with one of our very own forum members some years ago, (Thanks again to Al Rich, (thatz4u) as a complete re-builder in fairly good condition, and felt that it was a good candidate for a resurrection.

    I have had a number of the USA Oldies hardtops over the years, but felt that this convertible with the correct interior was worthy of being restored.

    thanks, I'll have to find 3-D versions, I've seen/did enough 55 and 57 chevys, 67-69 camaros, mobieus has some subject matter. I have enough I'm my stash,  but dwindling.

    nice chrysler, is that a resin kit or original?

    model companies should look into producing such kits, probably sales would jump significantly,  releasing same kits over and over.

    btw, where did you purchase this kit?  would love to build something like this.
