1962 GMC B 6500 with flatbed trailer
leafsprings replied to leafsprings's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks for the positive comments, everyone. It was a fun build, used period standard factory colors for interior, exterior, wheels and frame. Wouldn't mind building another one as a dual drive with a 6 71 Detroit and opening hood, but these cabs are temporarily out of stock at Frontier. Probably do a Dan Models Ford N series (similar design) for that build. By the way, I have both Dan Models N and F series bought a few years ago, and the quality is very high on both. A few more photos. -
Nice reference photos! I like the rounded rear fender openings, matches the rounded front fenders. IMO, the heavy duty bias ply with lock ring wheels look much more heavy duty than the rear radials with solid wheels. My guess the front wheels are original to the truck. Anybody in the resin business stepping up and offering some wider front fender extensions for the C cab?

This is the Frontier resin GMC cab with the recently re issued "big rig semi trailer". The GMC cab in this build is a B 6500 with a V6 gas engine, but V12 and Detroit diesel engines were optional. The trailer is the 36' flatbed version of the old IMC trailer. V6 is from Rookie Resins, frame and wheels are from Dan Models. Trailer tires and wheels were upgraded to 22" also. Pipe load is from Keystone.

Great work on the Freightliner modifications. IMO, the cab looks so much better with the older rounded fenders and without the "built in step package". Another note, pre '68 cabs had the upper windshield wiper location, so somebody to the liberty of adding on the newer box Freightliner emblem to that pusher.

AMT Peterbilt 359 California Hauler
leafsprings replied to Leonidas's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Another note, the large front bumper on the newer 1100 cab was a factory option on the older small window cab, but probably on later '71 and '72's. -
Yes, it is rare and valuable, it was the first AMT big rig kit. That being said, big collectors are very finicky. They want mint never been opened before sealed kits. This kit is unique because of the green instead of clear glass tree. The early Kenworths are unique because they have torsion bar suspensions. Both Pete and KW have been re issued with slightly different pieces, but are lesser quality, so, IMO, purists would be in the market to pay approx. $175 for a higher quality opened box first issue with unique features.

Impressive work! How one would look after a couple of decades and a couple of hundred thousand miles, without ever having a wash or wax job!

359 Peterbilt Wrecker

Nice looking big stick! IMO, the newer Pete had some nice new features with less chrome plating, both welcomed at the time it was first introduced back in the day. -
Ford Lousiville OTR Tractor

Great looking over the road hauler! The longer frame and sleeper conversion give the Louisville a completely different look than were used to seeing. I would like to do one of these, but with even a longer frame , a longer L hood conversion and big 6 cyl Cummins or 6 cyl Cat. -
Why would you swap the '72 grill to the '73? Both '72 and '73 year models use the same grill. The '72 grill must have been swapped to the new '74. Season 1, 2, and 3 show the '72 D 300 with 16" 2 piece rims and beige inner door arm rests. Season 4, 5 and 6 show the '74 D 300 with solid 16.5" rims and black inner door panels and arm rests. I'm thinking there were 2 squads, a '72 and '74. Rings could have been added to same truck and hood letters could have been painted over on the same truck. During the 5th and 6 th season, the old '72 grill was showing oxidation, somebody painted the headlight doors and wiper arms black. ( eye sore)

Y Block Rams Horn manifolds
leafsprings replied to Sledsel's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Manifolds look great! Sure wish I had a set when doing the 332 HD for a " 56 T 800 build. I modified some Dodge manifolds. The 302 and 332 truck engines (shown )were introduced in '56 and used up to '63. These engines had gear drive cam and crank, features never used in Lincoln car engines. -
Glosson C-O 4070A
leafsprings replied to DRIPTROIT 71's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
The fleet truck theme looks very appropriate for an IH. Great job! We're lucky the kit wasn't molded in red and wheels aren't chrome! -
Great build! The 4x4 conversion to these pickups is a road less traveled and requires much more work! Would be great if AMT re issued this one, ( reverse engineer like the IH Transtar 4070 ) and the aftermarket kick with '57, '58 and '59 conversion kits!

"EMERGENCY" is 50 years old!
leafsprings replied to GLMFAA1's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Nice trio! We had to be creative back then, no aftermarket resin support! A side note, the 16" lock ring wheels disappeared on the squad around '74, later seasons show the squad with solid 16.5" wheels, wonder if the '72 was swapped out with a '74 year model squad, and they just swapped the older grille to the newer cab? -
We all get the Coke thing to get things done, but, these monochromatic box art paint schemes get a little tiring, IMO, it was the custom paint schemes that were the main allure that got your attention to these kits back in the day.

Looks good, I know we have a lot of IH fans here. This might be better in the Industry Corner section, we have a Truck Aftermarket Resin thread. -

Interesting to see no mud flaps on packer body, I'm sure I have some extras laying around. -

I like what you did with this one Brian. Looks like an ex oil field worker from the sands of Saudi Arabia! Great construction color combo theme. -
Stretched AMT Diamond Reo
leafsprings replied to TruckerAL's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
The modifications look great. The wheelbase is spot on and the 22" Alcoa's give it the custom owner operator look. Looks like a time capsule from the late 60's.
