Looking forward to this build. Hard to get these cabs just right without a lot of reworking, some comprimises are in order. 2 hole or 5 hand hole steel wheels are available in resin. Looks like your going to use the space saver 48" cab? ( front part of cab with out the rear section? ) I believe the kit is a 63".

Emeryville / Fruehauf tanker
leafsprings replied to ghoodii's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Great choices for an old school big rig combo! These resins offerings really help modelers like me with poor scratch building skills, to create subjects you don't see very often. The super authentic modifications are excellent! -
Nice order! Note the design of Budd wheels, "football handholes", very popular on loggers, not the more common " D " shaped handholes seen on highway rigs. Assuming this tube type 2 piece rim design was spec'd by Redwood because it was the strongest and most trouble free design in rough off highway conditions. The rear wheels were done quite nicely on the Tyrone Malone Super Boss Truck kit, just drill out the center hub cover and replace with a regular Rockwell hub, but, unfortunately, the front wheels were never done, the Boss kit used a super wide front wheel instead. The AMT Peerless logging trailer wheels are OK, but, need the same improvements if being used for tractor rear axles and sink holes need to be filled in also.

I would say the early 60's when ramp bodies started to appear, and always on a custom stretched frames, unless it was a 1 1/2 or 2 ton truck etc.

Is there a reason why nobody wants to chrome plate anymore? Modelhaus always chrome plated their resin grill pieces.

1/25 AMT 1978 Ford Bronco "Wild Hoss"
leafsprings replied to Casey's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Ford's timing wasn't that great in the 70's, had the right product but at the wrong time. This was also true for the F 350 Super Camper Special with a 460 that came out around the time of the first embargo in '74.- 326 replies

Very clean and solid build, just the way IH would do it at the factory! -

Looks great, Phil Jensen would be proud! The drum decals really add the finishing touch. -
History of Monogram's Squarebody GM Pickups
leafsprings replied to Fabrux's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
IMO, and everybody has opinions, the squarebody offerings were an utter disaster. If, your into stepsides, the MPC was the only semi decent kit. If you wanted any other version than a stepside, you were out of luck. Most of my blame IMO, goes to AMT for not offering one of the most best selling pickups in America during the '73-'80 era, namely a full size 8' bed pickup. Everybody was buying them, and it would make sense, modelers would like to build them if they could not afford a real one. They could have set a standard, similiar the Ford pickup ( detailed chassis, accurate body lines in 1/25 ) , but they missed the pickup boom explostion completely. Wonder why the fell on hard times, sometimes, self inflicted. -

Outstanding weathering, you captured the oxidized original factory paint perfectly. You must have the matching Rangoon Red bed and Marlin Blue cab somewhere for a future mate up. -
1/25 AMT 1978 Ford Bronco "Wild Hoss"
leafsprings replied to Casey's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Re issues are always nice, but why can't we get one or two new tooling option pieces? Namely, a plated grill with round headlights! It seems around '79, the whole auto industry adapted square headlights to a grill that originally used round headlights, kind of like going from single to dual headlights in '58.- 326 replies

Note the correct axle hub for a C 900 series truck. A must do upgrade! Compare it the AMT kit's feeble rear axle hub. A twin screw is also a nice upgrade! Not a crane, but a grain. This one appears to have a "centerpoint" front axle. '68-'70 had the upper side emblem location, '60-'69 900's had the "super duty" script above grill.

IMO, this kit would make a nice West Coast O/O unit if the frame was lengthened and Alcoa's added to the rear. Rear Alcoa's from the White Freightliner DD would have the appropriate 22" wheels and tires. -
It depends on how authentic you want to be. Several changes were made to the F 350 in '67. '67 was the first year of the twin I beam and 8 lug wheels in F 350's. '65-'66 F 350's used the I beam front axle with 6 lug wheels. Also, the '65-'66 F 350 floor pan was the older higher '61-64 F 100-F250 floor pan, it was higher with inner steps. But, if these changes don't bother you, the '65-'66 F 100 cab will adapt to the '67-'72 frame nicely.
