Since my 1st scale replica of my Elky got warped in the sun, I've decided to build it again. My 1:1 Elky will be getting new paint sometime in the next year, so I likely won't finish its mimi-me until then. In the mean time can get the motor, chassis and interior done, and some other details.
I'm using the MPC Red Light Bandit kit as the base, since its the only El Camino kit I know of with the 4 headlight front (other than a monster truck). However its not particularly detailed, and has the wrong dash. I'm pirating a lot of parts from a 86 Monte Carlo SS kit and El Camino SS kit.
1st three shots are of my interior and engine.
i started with making the grille/headlights more detailed. I drilled out the grille with a pin-vise, and cut out the molded in headlights to add headlight buckets and lenses. Had to cut out the headlight area on the body too for the headlight buckets to fit.
Started the motor. Using the fan assembly from the Monte Carlo kit since my car has AC.
Also stole the steering wheel from the Monte kit to match mine. Hardest part is the red trim on the dash. Might need to redo that. Debated on using the dash from the Monte kit. Its more detailed, but will need to be trimmed. And no I will not be leaving the carpet semi-gloss. Have some flocking and other goodies on the way.
