  1. Love child of the nerdy Porsche 914 and Rockstar 918, done in Tamiya Light Green.
  2. After nearly a year and a half on the workbench (!), I'm happy to see this one 'under glass.' Only my second completed model after being away from the hobby for nearly two decades and far and away the most ambitious. Patience truly does come with age. The front, rear, undercarriage, interior, and engine of the 918 were shoehorned to fit the 914 body. Color is Tamiya's Light Green (TS-22) (a nod to Porsche's Acid Green), with clear coat, polish, and wax. Scale Motorsports carbon fiber decals (twill and clear) were extensively utilized. Rims and tires were iForged-Equip-V3s from www.eightyone81.com. Engine is weathered via Tamiya weathering kits, Tamiya smoke, and Tamiya panel line accent. Engine bay cowlings and cross member came from ye olde parts box. Its got some fleas and there are a few things I'd do differently if I did it over again, but overall I'm very happy to see what I envisioned become reality. Amazing photos that make it look way better than it should are courtesy of my wife Amanda (www.morningdewphotography.com). Enjoy!
  3. DJ...love this idea! Unfortunately, I was close to completion when you posted. I do have another 914 body that will be a future project and will be sure to incorporate your idea then. Thanks!
  4. Thanks Foxer! Lol on the one week painting season...that's what heated garages are for!
  5. Can't believe its been February since my last post! Here's the latest on the build. Most of the interior and engine are finished. Body is painted and clear coated and in the process of being polished. Shouldn't be more than another six months or so before this can get moved to the 'Under Glass' section...lol.
  6. First post of the new year. Started working on the carbon fiber decals and brakes.
  7. Thanks everyone...glad to be back at it!
  8. Got all four rims painted, minus some touch-up work to be done.
  9. afx - Lucky for me, I'm only using the 914 body. Windshield and frame will be fun to work with, though. geetee66 - Absolutely! Thanks!
  10. JerseyRed: Ok, got it. Wound up in Alaska (via Florida no less!) as a result of a career move and a strong desire to get out of Florida and the east coast in general. Wife and I were hoping for Colorado or Washington or Nevada originally, but Alaska called and we answered! No regrets whatsoever!
  11. Thanks JerseyRed! Whereabouts in NJ? I was born in Denville and grew up in Sparta and Phillipsburg.
  12. Quick update...I decided to use the EightyOne rims instead of the 918 rims. Got them painted the eventual body color and then accented them in black. Here's a mock up with the first one. Body is in white primer.
  13. Thanks Modelbuilder Mark, Cobraman, Ace-Garageguy, lghtngyello03, DrKerry, bobthehobbyguy, om617, and crazyrichard! Much appreciated! Foxer, I agree 100%! The 914 was always woefully underpowered. BIGTRUCK, I'm not sure the scale width, but they do measure about 1/2" in width actual.
  14. I love all things Porsche. I used to own a 1:1 914 and had grand plans to install a small block Chevy in place of the 4 banger. As with most of my projects, it never came to fruition. I purchased the Revell kit with the intention of replicating what I could never get off the ground 1:1. Then Revell releases the 918 Spyder kit and what you see in progress below was born. The undercarriage is from the 918, quartered and reshaped to match the 914 body. The interior and motor are from the 918. This mock up is sitting on EightyOne's iForged Equip V3s, but I plan to use the 918 kit rims. Finished body color will be Tamiya's Light Green X-15, similar to Porsche's Acid Green. I'd use Gravity Colors' Acid Green, but am currently sans airbrush. I've already purchased Scale Motorsport's clear carbon fiber decals and will make the most of the bright green. The 918 rims will be black. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics from a dimly lit workbench. So much work left to be done! This shot shows the incorporation of the 918 fuel filler cap on the targa structure. 918 front bumper narrowed to fit the 914 body. Still have some fit issues with the 918 dashboard. Mock up of the engine bay. Parts box provided the rear cowling and torsion bar.
  15. Love the stance! Look forward to seeing this one progress!
  16. Hello all! I'm a long time modeler that faded away from the hobby in my 20s after first getting started around the age of 6 or 7. Gave away my multitude of kits and parts boxes to a nephew but got them back (mostly untouched) after I relocated to Alaska (from FL no less!). Now in my late 40s, I return to the hobby renewed with loads more patience. I now only take on one project at a time instead of 5 or 6 and actually see each one through to completion (always been the great starter of projects but seem to lose steam along the way through frustration or Murphy's Law). I gain a ton of inspiration from the 'On the Workbench' and 'Under Glass' forums. I mostly stick to 1/24 sports or classic cars and rarely leave anything box stock. My first foray back was a quick diecast conversion of Motormax's Ford Explorer Police SUV into a primered street cruiser (I own the 1:1 Ford Explorer Sport and was trying to build something similar...wish one of the kit manufacturers would bite the bullet and offer this in plastic!). My second project was finishing Tamiya's Citreon 2CV that I had bought my wife to her to build many years ago. A few photos of both are attached. I have gone off the deep end with my latest project, attempting to build the love child of the lowly Porsche 914 and the outrageous Porsche 918 Spyder. I will start a separate post for this one in 'On the Workbench.' Glad to be back at it! Fred
