  1. I have known some contests that say "no" to bases due to space considerations. If your six 3"x8" models are all on 12" diameter mirrors, that takes up a lot of real estate. And I have that and a lot worse, done at contests. One guy build a game show-esque display base that took up four square feet and only held four models. Every show I go to here in sunny Florida, is a "judge on what you can see without touching the model" contest. That leaves it up to the builder to properly display his model to show as much of the model as possible, if he wants it judged accurately. However no contests I know give less points for not showing more. They are judged on the whole of what is displayed. Frankly sometimes, showing more can be a detriment. I've seen models knocked from 1st place due to ejector pin marks visible on the underside thanks to the trusty mirrored base.
  2. The newer releases of the coupe also include a TPI set up as well.
  3. I have heard most folks using non-waxed floss.
  4. Okay now that we have that established - is there any kit that offers a Ford inline that would be appropriate in a Mustang model? We were just talking about this last night at my model club meeting.
  5. I will take a completed model to each contest - once. Win or lose. If it takes me three years to get to a particular contest, I will bring some older stuff. The guys that bring the same stuff over and over, are usually the same guys that go whining to the contest judges/promoters to find out why their model didn't win. I've even been to a contest where the judges saw the builds and said, "This one again, he's won in the past, ignore it, whats next?" Is it right to do so? Probably not, but I certainly understand the sentiment.
  6. No real pattern has accidently emerged but as silver is my favorite color for an automobile, I was thinking about doing a few kits in a row using different shades of silver/greys. EDIT: pretty varied actually.
  7. Recently did trades with Partsmarty (Marty Tyrka) and Mopar Mike (Mike Cashmon). Both highly recommended.
  8. The only thing that pops to mind is the AMT '70 Superbee pro-street. And it might be closer. But it's not difficult to stretch a chassis with some square or sheet stock. Check the Plastruct or Evergreen rack at your local hobby store.
  9. Is Paint.net good and safe. ?
  10. Is there another site that makes higher resolution images?
  11. But not the smaller text. That was whole issue.
  12. What idiot decided that donating 500+ hp cars to trade schools would be a good idea in the first place?
  13. I see. Then when I copy the image to a Word document and resize it, why do I lose detail? The small print on the license plate image is unreadable.
  14. I'm having difficulty reducing any Acme license plate image. The images are real low dpi and blur badly when reduced. Is there a freeware program I can use to sharpen up the image, increase it's dpi so I can reduce it better?
  15. Lets see. Four wheeling in a wooded are in Florida. Area was below sea level a bit so there was lots of standing water and sawgrass. Standing in the back of this truck, holding onto the roll bar as we spun through this water throwing mud everywhere. Having a blast. We struck a tree stump unseen in the grass. The truck spun sideways and I was thrown. I don't know if you've ever careened through an area of sawgrass in shorts and a t-shirt before, but I don't recommend it.
  16. This just keeps getting better.
  17. Did you print those signs out on standard photo paper? Or decal paper?
  18. This just keeps geting better and better. I've a field find in the planning stages. I'm sure I'll be refering back to this build.
  19. A couple of pieces of old tail light material might work to if you just need one or two. And like red of course.
  20. Does the blue color of Windex or windshield cleaner effect the paint? Seems like it would.
  21. I've also made them by just using a pin and then adding a dot of colored paint.
  22. That's insane. When I build a kit and I have say, $50 invested, when its done I feel like I got $50 of enjoyment out of it and now have a completed model (not a build, right ) that I'm very proud of. But for $8300? To get $8300 worth of enjoyment out of it, it had better come with a lifetime supply of Sam Adams and a 1:1 version.
