Art, you are of course correct. I have an idea, a theme. The subject of this theme has often changed in my design process. My recent completion, the '69 Cougar with the Millenium Falcon theme was originally a pick-up in the design stage until I realized I had a beater Cougar already in the works. As long as my idea sees daylight, often times the subject is changeable. So in this case, I thought I'd have you guys throw up some ideas on good kits and I'd check them all out and see which one trips my trigger the most. Right now the '50 Chevy and the 55 Cameo are the front runners, but that is one heck of a cool idea. Another option I'm kicking around is an early 50's coupe cut after the B-pillar and a pick-up bed added. Thanks to everyone for their input and imagination.

Thanks for the advice Tom. I have cannibalized one of the Revell '50 Fords, its is excellent. I have the MPC '53 Ford flip-nose. Is that the same as the AMT? I've heard such nasty things about it, I haven't even looked at it. The AMT '50 Chevy is the one Cranky is always building and I'm leaning towards that. Although the '55 and '57 Cameos look very cool. I've heard great things about the Revell '37 Ford as well.

Nope, just use some craft store acrylics. Thin with water and apply. I have used it over all sorts of stuff.

I'm planning a surf rod pick-up and I want to know what pick-up kit is the best as far as the quality of the kit. The fitment, the chrome, etc. I'm pretty much interested in something from the 30's-60's. Feel free to name several if you some favorites, that will give me some options. Thanks very much.

You'd have to be certifiable to get behind the wheel of that. You need a periscope.

Jonathan have you given any thought to using something beefier for the front suspension? I know its just a model and we can suspend disbelief, but a fully dressed hemi is pushing 700 lbs. With two, that's a heck of a lot of weight on that old straight axle. Maybe check out what those Blastolene guys do for those monster cars they build. I think they use old truck straight axles. Sorry Jim, no offense intended, its just in my nature to see a theme and run with it as far as possible. I'll keep such things like that to myself from now on. If the Southlandz show is the same one thats been in Pinellas Park the last few years then yes I'm familiar. They have an excellent swap meet. The show................I'm torn on. they are a great bunch of guys in that club but they do all judging by popular vote, so that the club members can participate. Last time I was there I overheard a woman saying she was going to vote for "that one" because of the "pretty color". Imagine loosing first place because someone's favorite color was blue. If you want some great deals on kits by all means come for the swap meet, but I wouldn't drive two hours for the show.

I love the hemi and the headlights and of course your finish is awesome. I think you should have taken the headlight idea even further. Lose the side marker light, the 3rd break light, the stock tail lights and drop on some classic teardrop tail lights. Maybe some old school side mirrors too.

Andrew, I have seen your other builds and you seem to have some real talent. So I have a few pointers based on your pics here. Assemble the engine halves before painting. That way you can clean up any seams. Are you in a well ventilated area? You seem to be air brushing with the part right under your nose. Paint and thinner fumes are dangerous. You should be using a air-purifying mask at the very least. Safety first.

Just barely fits. Still a bit of sanding to do to make it perfect.
