  1. The folks that I work closely with they do know my hobbies and they do know I occasionally compete. I have a contest award in my cubicle. I work at a major defense/NASA contractor and I'm in the production group building computers for satellites and space craft. And I thought $25 per hour with a 20 hour minimum was crazy money for a box stock build. Thats $500, minimum. I felt that would scare them off right there. I have told them no on many occasions. They just wait a bit and ask again.
  2. I'm having some difficulty at work with a couple of guys that want me to build 1:25 versions of their 1:1 rides. A modern Mustang and Camaro. This happened often enough in the past, and normally folks are understanding when I tell them, no thank you. But these two guys are pretty insistant. I work 50+ hours a week, with wife and kids. What bench time I do get, I don't want to spend on someone elses model, regardless of how much I'm being paid. So I usually explain that and people are generally okay with it. But these two knuckle-heads probably try to convince me every couple of weeks with all sorts of arguments. "I'll buy everything you need." "Just build it right out of the box." "It can't take you that long." I told them finally it would cost them $25 an hour with a minumum of 20 hours, thinking this would end the debate. Now they think it's time to haggle. *facepalm* Anyone else have these problems?
  3. Love it! Nice one.
  4. Or, by the time the glue was placed into the cup and he got the applicator to it, the CA had already begun to thicken.
  5. See! Even rich people go to Comicon.
  6. Just imagine what Ira would do to this.
  7. I love the weathering and the stance. I think the modern wheels and tires do not look as nice as the white walls and five spokes.
  8. I would LOVE to see this re-released. A great build up. Nice work.
  9. I built this one back in the day molded in grey and had no issues.
  10. You will find most forum perusers (new word?) don't watch posted videos. We want the quick fix.
  11. That is a work of art. Beautiful!
  12. Sand down to the primer coat in five or spots.
  13. Would some one who uses the guitar string please let us know what size and how much we might expect to pay for one? Since we seem to have a lot of interest, we may as well get all the info out on the table.
  14. Look at the car again and then think Death Race/Post Apoc, and suddenly the build possibilities open up. I would build this in a NY minute.
  15. I found the insect mounting pins on Amazon too. I'll order a few other things to make it worth the shipping. Thanks much guys.
  16. Very nice Jim. Adding the Ardun is an excellent choice.
  17. Well the good news is, very few kits have a multiple piece body like that. Try straight Elmer's glue for clear glass. Most of us hand paint as little as humanly possible. If you can mask off and spray, do so. Decals - there are setting solutions available. I get mine through Micro-Mark. Makes life much easier. But I wouldn't worry too much about the issues right now. It all comes with time and experience. Check out other folks work, ask how this and that was accomplished. Learn as you go. Adult builders who begin the hobby often get frustrated when they aren't overnight experts. If you can avoid that pitfall, you should be fine. Lastly as a new builder, I'd like to offer the link below called Walk then Run. It's a thread I began a couple years back geared towards new builders.
  18. Another ataboy for Round2 in my book. They sure have their target buyers figured out.
  19. Looking great so far. Lets see some more!
  20. A lot of long term solutions given so far, but in the short term, how about some cheap IKEA shelves and a few of these? http://www.modelcars.com/testors-124-standard-car-display-case.html
  21. I cut a small piece (but larger than the hole) of sprue and use a liquid cement to glue it into the sink mark. When the plastic gets soft I squeeze the sprue further into the hole. Let it dry and sand smooth. Only a small bit of putty needed for the sake of perfection.
  22. Thanks Chris. I'm pretty happy with it. More soon.
  23. An insect mounting pin seems to be the easiest to use. Where might a fella locate some? Plowboy, that sounds like sage advice, thanks very much.
  24. Has anyone come up with a realistic material for radio antennas? I've seen piano wire and pins used but they seem out of scale to me. We need something rigid but thin. Any ideas? Please post pics if you can. Any help is appreciated.
