I just wanted to say hello. I have built a few model cars and trucks over the years, but it’s been a while since I tackled one. I am interested in building a specific and special one though. A little back story. When I first started driving a cousin of mine and I bought cars. Mine was a ‘69 Chevelle. Nothing really special, but I sure do miss it. My cousin had been looking and found a ‘70 Dodge Super Bee with 383 Magnum, 4 speed. Really pretty car. The problem was his mom hated the car. She wouldn’t let him keep it because he was too young to. So he sold it. So, he waited and kept looking. One afternoon, several miles away in another court, I saw a car that really caught my eye. It was a triple black ‘69 Plymouth GTX. I raced back home and called my cousin and told him about it. As I described it he started laughing. He said that it sounded like the car that he had bought earlier that day and was due to take delivery in a few hours. Sure enough, the next time I saw him that same car was sitting in front of his house. Although that ‘X’ was in good shape, he wanted to do a few things to it. I helped him get the engine rebuilt and put new brakes, a clutch, tires and wheels, etc. The biggest thing was a new paint job. As things go, a friend borrowed the car and tore up the transmission. Times were a little tough financially, so the car sat. He did get it back running, but it was never the same. Fast forward several years and my cousin came down with throat cancer. He has survived it, but it has put a damper on his plans to restore the ‘X’. I think that he needs some encouragement and I think one way that I could help is to build him a model of the ‘X’ as it was back in the day. I’ve chosen an AMT 1/25th scale 1969 Plymouth GTX. The biggest problem that I see is that the model doesn’t have a vinyl top; his real one does. I think that the model (I haven’t bought it yet) has an automatic while his real one has a 4 speed. I will be looking on here for guidance and would really appreciate any pointers. Until then, have a good one everyone!
