  1. I got my order that I placed on January 18th today. I tried to contact them last week via email, for an update but got no response. I tried their Facebook page and got a response within a couple of hours. They shipped it the next day. I would try that route if you haven't already. This was my first order and I love the selection, so I hope they get past all of fulfillment issues.
  2. First time replying to this thread. Picked up a bunch of stuff this weekend between Amazon, Hobby Lobby, local shop, and Harbor Freight. Looking forward to airbrushing for the first time.
  3. Thanks again Tom. I found the H kit on Amazon for about $50 that includes a hose and 3 different cup sizes. I found some youtube videos from Dr. Kranky (I think he's on here) that I want to watch today before making a decision, but it looks like a good choice. The Iwata hp-cs may be a good choice later down the road if I want more detail or weathering. I can use the extra money for paint, kits, etc.
  4. Thanks Tom! I'll check out the Paasche H. I just saw it at Hobby Lobby and the price is good with the 40% coupon at about $126. I went ahead and ordered a few bottles from Gravity for some bodies and will try a few different brands for the rest of the car. I've been reading around and their are a ton of opinions on paint, so it seems I just need to try some and see what I like. At least most paint is relatively cheap. I also have a bunch of Testors enamel, so I can try those with a AB as well.
  5. I’m getting ready to buy my first airbrush (iwata hp-cs) and am curious what everyone uses to airbrush interiors and engine, frame, etc. I’m probably going to try gravity colors first for the body. Locally I can buy Tamiya and model air paints. Suggestions on gloss and semigloss black, steel, aluminum, etc?
  6. Thanks David! I never heard of blue tack, I'll have to run over and get some. I've been meaning to get some foam, but this weekend just drilled some small holes in a 1x2 that was in the garage to stick skewers and toothpicks in. It's worked pretty good so far. I think on the next kit, I'll glue the like color pieces you described and then remove parts, sort them by color and paint that way and see how it works. My quality on the first few probably won't be anything to display, so I'll use the to learn on.
  7. I'm new to building so, this is probably a really stupid question. I got my first kit in over 20 years (AMT El Camino) and started it this weekend. The process I'm using now is just using the steps in the instructions, painting those (sometimes 2-3 coats so they look nice) and then building. It seems like I can only do so much before I just need to wait for everything to dry. I'm on day three and the engine is finally all painted and ready for assembly. Do any of you take all of the parts off of the sprue, sort them into like colors and then paint that way? It seems like it would be easier with less cleaning brushes, switching colors etc. I also plan on going to an Airbrush at some point and since cleaning the AB is more involved, I'd hate to spray one small part and then have to clean before going to the next one. Right now everything but the body is being brush painted. The body will be rattle can for now. I look forward to seeing your build process. Thanks!
  8. Hello, I've been reading old threads over the last few days and thought I'd join. My wife has been wanting me to get a hobby to keep me busy over the winter. Most of my other hobbies require warm weather (Harley's, Premium Cigars, and Woodworking). I mentioned models since I built a couple as a kid and then a few again right out of college and I have some space in our unfinished basement for a bench. I've always liked El Camino's, so she bought me an AMT kit for Christmas. I went out this weekend and bought paint, glue, sanding sticks, etc and started this weekend. I will brush paint this one and rattle can the exterior. I've started looking at airbrushes and may get one over the next several months. So far I'm having fun and it is a very relaxing hobby. My 5 year old daughter has shown some interest (She loves to paint), so I might have a model building partner as well. I hope to learn a lot from all of you!
