  1. Strete Hobbies on Sullivant Avenue ... man, that brings back some memories! My family lived there when I was a kid and I use to walk there to spend my allowance money! Sorry to hear the owner passed.

BTW, that HTUSA you mentioned _ and the other one in Columbus, for that matter _ are both owned by the same people that own the one in South Point, Ohio, where I am employed part-time.

I used to walk there too. I lived in the neighborhood there behind Streete Hobbies. I lived there in the 80's. I would get my hair cut and Ron's Barber Shop then go lurk around the hobby shop.

  2. In southwest Columbus, OH, there is a Walmart. Right across the parking lot, (you can see it from wally-world's door) is a Hobbytown USA. (I know, HTUSA is a franchise chain) they have been happily co-existing there for about 7 years now.

Our local Hobby Shops, like Hobbyland with three stores, Grandview Hobbies and Hurricane hobbies, all reside within a few miles of newly established "big box" stores. Streete Hobby shop closed it's doors a few years ago, but because it's owner passed away.

not all markets have seen this decline in locally owned HS as you say.

I am sorry to hear about the owner of Streete Hobby. As a young boy I spent many hours and lots of my hard earned chore money there.

  3. Hi Everyone,

Do you know where I can get gauge decals (Autometer style) in 1/24 or 1/25 scale? I know that you can get them in the NASCAR decal sheets, but I am looking for a complete sheet of gauge decals. If I had a better printer I would try to make my own, however until that happens (if ever) I would love to have a complete sheet of them. Does any one know where I could get such decals?

Thanks in advance and I will be posting pics of my first completed model in 25 years in the next few days!

    Ed

  4. Well I have no more excuses, its time to start building. I moved into my new house and got my model space done and organized. Just bought a Passche single action airbrush, a small compressor (a 1/8 horse unit from Harbor Freight, with trap and regulator for 80 bucks). It's now time to get busy. I will start posting pics soon.

By the way, I just sprayed my first Alcald II chrome paint and that stuff is great...

I am going to get back down to the basement and get to work.
