Good idea, transfer dumps are real popular in the west,   however another void by big plastic. I bet there is  a nice market for this popular never offered before equipment. How about a  transfer dump kit ( dump and pup trailer } that will install on any 3 axle tractor Moebius?  Good luck, there will be a lot of scratch building on this one!

I grew up around these trucks. Going to build this one for my uncle, going to do one of his, not sure which paint scheme. Then I'm going to do one, a KW, of his. He's gone now so I'll keep it. I think I'm going to try and start with a wood mold for the boxes and bend styrene (?) Around it and then start fabricating the straight parts, get it all together and learn how to make molds.

You have a good start and a plan/direction you are headed.  I think what you are doing is a good way to learn new tricks and ideas. You can always go back later and add an engine if you want to.

This style is called a Curbside. Hoods glued shut looking just like a car sitting by the curb.

Thanks! I heard and read that term and kind of knew what it meant but didn't realize it meant no engine and hood glued shut.

Your plan sounds like a good one.  Have you considered removing the door handles?  That would really clean up the sides.  As far as the vent windows I think I would remove them, it is a subtle change that would make a world of difference to the overall smooth look.  People would notice it, but not necessarily recognize what had been done; scratching their heads trying to figure it out.

I thought about shaving the door handles. In real life I don't like them but I think you're right. And thanks for the vote of confidence deleting the vent window, I'm going to get it gone!

  3. Got this kit with the intentions of going custom. Going for a lowered show truck. I think I'm going to start practicing some detail work but we will see. I've thought about just dropping the truck and skipping any engine work as I'm more interested in learning some lowered suspension work over engine detail work and that will leave me with an extra 350 engine and a TH400 (?) tranny. We will see, I have one kit near completion and a semi transfer truck I recently started. I am shaving some of the trim from the original... The parking lights on the fenders and the trim that wraps around the cab. I'm debating on deleting the vent window and going with a solid door glass... Anyone done that before? Curious how it will look. Thanks for taking the time to look, comments and suggestions always welcome.

Thanks man trucks almost done just need to paint marker lights, and get some string for the cables.

The peg board is from a company called wall control. Awsome product and they sell all different size panels with different hooks, shelfs, clamps. I got my setup on ebay for 70 bucks shipped i think..came with 3 panels and a bunch of hooks, holders, and shelves. Great deal for sure.

Thanks! Might check into it one day. Lots of tools to buy in this life... Auto body tools, model making tools, house renovation tools... Lol

Looks like its going to be a really cool project. Sorry to hear about your uncle, im sure he will love a replica of what he used to drive.

Thanks Jimbo, he was a man always on the go, not sure how he's holding up being stuck and no longer independent. Worse thing was about a month ago the car he was in was rear ended, reportedly the car was going 67, and his back and neck were broken again... Such a tragedy.

  6. Since I've been taking my sweet time finishing the 64 low-low I decided to start my biggest undertaking in model building, scratch building parts. This one will take a while as I'm going to try and get it close the first time. I plan to finish this and send it to my uncle. He used to drive transfer trucks until a one in a million accident paralyzed him. Follow along if you dare, lol.

Removed the sleeper, next I guess I'll start working on dimensions of what the box needs to be and make a wooden template for styrene... I'm thinking the best bet is to build most the model as I'm fabricating the boxes. I dunno, first attempt. I always followed the directions but noticed a lot here likes to build major components and then paint. I did the painting and then building. Seems that's the youthful way of doing it. I'm not youthful anymore... Lol

Any comments or suggestions are welcome!! I could use a few pointers.

    Thanks for stopping in.

Looking forward to following this build...I also Served in the Air Force from 1983-1987. I was stationed at McConnell AFB. I worked on KC-135 tankers.

Thanks for your service abelaxe. It will be a little while as I want to build a couple practice models to freshen up my building "skills" before I attempt this one. I'm just about done with my 64 Imp low rider. Going to customize a 77(?) Chevy truck that has a plow. Not building this one as it's, going to lower it. If I'm happy with these two then I might jump over to the 55. If I feel I'm not ready I'll build another practice kit.
