I love the color. It suits the model very well. I think the gold pinstripes were a big W too.
About that windshield frame… Be very careful! This particular kit comes often with warped parts, mainly due to the amount of them in the box. I had to deal with few warped frames in them. Whatever plastic they make them from our days does not react well to hot water. I tried to fix a frame this way and the hot water distorted it beyond any fixing. Like one of the rails shrunk, compared to the other. Never seen any thing like that. So, just heads up.
If you feel adventurous with that motor in the kit, the six carb intake can be cut down and used to make the six carbs sit on top of the blower, which looks really cool.
Your build looks really cool so far.

Thanks for the kind words and tips. I have some sheet styrene and if i get desperate i may try to make one.

I have a handful or so projects going..... They're all held up by something different. The big scale Vette is waiting on paint, my Coyote X project is on hold until I can figure out how to hinge the rear clamshell.... There's the little 2002 that I'm gonna need to buy a magnifying lamp to attach the body trim to. I usually can buy a kit and build it, most of the time......

Thanks for the chuckle. Funny how that happens

  3. I have a 1995 jeff gordon kit. It is opened but all parts are there. Kit #8190. Years ago i was buying lots off that auction site and this was in a lot with ones i wanted. But i am not into nascar much any more. Not sure what i need. But off the top of my head a good set of red line tires and steel rims n caps that would improve the 69 dodge Daytona comes to mind.

  4. Gotta love the monte, well up to 73. Had 81 years ago. And blue is a great choice of colors or black. There are some nice cars made after the 70s but noyhing compares from the 1st ford off the line to 70s. Now they all look alike,  they have little to no chrome, and everything is over priced and tons of lemons.

Hello Noel, I do not buy these expensive kits. My friend Mark is part of Agora (Liam’s team here in the USA. )I build them, review them and sometimes get to go all out on them. Mark lets me know what I can do. But I get to keep them. I just did the Lamborghini Miura and had to build it out of the box. (This kit is a difficult build. ). The Gullwing, I get to change the color. Black was suggested so black it goes. If you need to know if they are a good kit, I can help or Bill( Mr Obsessive) is very knowledgeable on these kits.

Dang. We all need friends like that. Stay lucky.

Last time I counted I had 60 or so.

Sometimes the vision changed and I didn't want to launch a total redo until later. Sometimes I hit a wall that I didn't yet have the skills to overcome. Sometimes more research was needed to get a technical detail right. Sometimes I had a great idea for something else, and I shelved the then-current build to at least get the new idea mocked up before I lost the inspiration.

Who makes rules like "how many is too many"?

If you're enjoying whatever you're doing with model cars and not hurting anybody, there's no foul.

Really no such thing as too many. But some folks set limits. I would like to get a few done. To each their own. It is a hobby and should be fun.

You think you got problems! Currently, I’ve got three 1:1 car projects going on and two 1:1 bikes in various stages. Thank God I got a) the room b) no neighbors, and c) an understanding Mrs.

The only one i would worry about is the wife. We have 10.5 acres and can't see any neighbors.

I got 2 cars going right now, both are running and moving. I need to get the 2nd one insured and registered.

I used to have 6 vehicles and 6 motorcycles which 3 where for our 2 kids. But none really projects. Do have 1 1;1 project now.

  9. Sat around looking at a few kits n looking at my supply of paints. Could not go down the stairs so spray cans what i had. Air brush is in the basement. Duplicolor metallic green stood out. Primed n painted.       20240602_123946.jpg.6b0a4830e284844ed270c36ab087f1f2.jpg

kept looking and it needed something. Opened my 49 merc kit and there it was, pinstripes. 20240602_124744.jpg.e61964a30bde1b9c7c5ac6c203a6009c.jpg 20240602_124132.jpg.5d333e63479f54e88530e9c726ca70bc.jpg

these rims n tires are very nice. Now a few more decisions. The windshield frame was warped on the sprue. May try hot water to fix.20240602_124318.jpg.0b03d2851ec5c09cf93e6d5a8f7eaa48.jpg

I just came across this thread which got me thinking back to my three 49 Mercury builds.

This AMT 49 got me back into the hobby in 1994. It was inspired by the first really cool car I ever saw cruising by as I walked home from school. It was actually a 4-door 51 Mercury painted purple. I was told it had a Thunderbird engine. I chopped the top and used corduroy for upholstery like I did when I was a kid.49MERC1.jpg.5376c11a2c27d616648af4a523cc89e1.jpg

I got this AMT kit in a Secret Santa draw and built it pretty much box stock as a replica of the car driven by the James Dean character in the movie Rebel Without a Cause.

I built this replica of the Sam Barris Merc from the Revell kit.

I was blown away when the guy who installed disc brakes on my 65 Falcon unveiled the car he had been working on for 10 years maybe one of the nicest 49 Merc customs I have ever seen.

Dang those are nice. 49 merc and 48 roadmaster are 2 of my dream cars.
