  1. MAN, all I can say is thank you guys for your support. This has been a real learning experiance so far. Im going to make sure to keep it updated with lots of pics. Thanks again.
  2. Here is a little more for ya guys. Look forward to hearing your feed back. These are the motor parts after de-chroming This is the motor progress Thanks for looking
  3. Ok so I took a break for awhile but I finaly am getting back to it. Here is the progress.
  4. Here are the pedals, dash, seat and steering wheel. Now on to the body. Thanks for looking.
  5. Ok so I said I would get the cage in tonight along with some other things and I have done it WOOHOO! Now on to the pedals, dash, and seat but thats for another day.
  6. Halon system, battery, and ignition plus some decals installed in the interior. Next to come is the door pops and shut straps and the roll cage which will be done tonight if it kills me
  7. All I can say is you are sick in the head man lol. Totally awsome build. I hope I can master body work like that some day.
  8. Ok so here is my halon system. I used a fire extinguisher from a monster truck kit, cut and drilled the top. Used some braided wire for my hard line and some jewelry cord for the switch wire. This is the ignition module. I cut a solid piece out of a parts box exhaust system, and put some grooves in it. It will get the wires later. Thanks for looking.
  9. It is called "step flashing" atleast thats what the sticker said. I got it at my local hardware store for 19cents a piece, they come in that L shape and are about 8in x 8in. They are about the thickness of soda can and cut pretty easy with just a pair of household scissors.
  10. Keep it going man, the build is looking awsome! Love that motor you got going there.
  11. Ok so I have started the cage. Got it painted and used some heat shrink tubbing for the padding, got the idea from another builders pics on here. Does anyone have any ideas as to what i could use as like zip-ties or straps for the padding. I tried fishing string but the knots came out to big.
  12. Yeah he does have a pretty bad one on there. Don't think mine will turn out like that but I'm gonna try, and yeah I've already found out about the kit. What its missing in parts it makes up for in parts that dont belong in the kit lol. As for the paint, it will be red and black but still going to prime it first.
  13. Thanks Brent. The idea was actualy gave to me by one of the guys the replied to my post in the tips and tricks section. It was time consuming but worked pretty good if you ask me.
  14. Okay so I have built many models but I have always been more of a build it by the instructions with what it came with and dont take my time kind of guy. Now I'm going to step out of the box and try my hand at a full custom job. I have been looking at this site for months and think I have finally seen enough to give this a shot. Thanks to the tips and tricks section I have been posting in "I'm sure I will be posting there again " I'm finally starting. Here is what I got so far. I used step flashing from the hardware store and scrap book paper for templates I molded the edges and mocked up the cage This is what I got so far I'll keep it updated and please give me your imput, this is my first full custom.
  15. Thats what I was thinking but I wasnt sure if bondo would be to abbrasive for model cars. Thanks for the help Ed.
  16. I have noticed that in most of the pics where someone is molding two pieces together or filling something there are normally two colors. One is gray and the other is red. What are these two products, which ones are used for what, and where can i get them? Thanks
  17. I would just like to thank all of you guys again for the response i have got to this post. I can not wait for the day that i know as much as you guys to give this advice to someone else. However against most of the advice given I am using real aluminum for my interior. The closest hobby shop to me is 45min away and the little mom and pops hardware down the road had very thin step flashing for $0.19 a piece. It is going ok so far. A bit time consuming but its working. I probable could have gotten better results with the styrene but this will do for my first major custom attempt lol. I am also going to try mocking up some headers but haven't got that far yet. I will post a pic on here of the guts when I finish the aluminum tonight. P.S. Has anyone heard of DUCO model glue? If so how well does it work?
  18. Thanks for all of theses awesome ideas guys. As in response to JAIRUS I am 24 and have been building models off and on since I was like 10 but it has always been strictly what was in the kit and using whatever testors paints and glues I could find at k-mart or walmart. This is the first time I'm really going to step out of the box. Also I am working on a paper boys paycheck as I was laid off in December and have yet to find a new job. I'm a steel fabricator so working with a aluminum can is not a problem just wondering if there was something easier or more commonly used in model building. I think I am going to check out those aluminum flashing squares GEORGE was talking about, and as for the headers it seems like I keep hearing solder so i think I'm going to try and mock some up. Anyone have any advice on which epoxy is best to use?
  19. Thanks you guys. I checked out scale dreams and he has a ton. Still want to do this on the cheap side though. The less I have to buy or order the better, but still thanks for the em-put guys.
  20. So this only my second post and im getting ready to start my next project. It is a Mustang II Pro Stocker kit from mpc named Fire Fighter. So far it seems like a ok kit but it is missing some stuff, like one set of headers and something else I'm forgetting. I want to make my own headers though. Any suggestions on what material or techniques to use? Also It came with a gutted interior with molded rivets but I was thinking about re-doing it in some type of aluminum. I know my dad use to use old beer or soda cans to make his tub wells but it is to hard to get flat without leaving marks for me. Any suggestions on materials or trick to that. Last but not least where can i find braided fuel lines and those blue and red fittings, my hobby shop doesn't carry much. Or better yet is there something I could take apart to find something similar to use? Sorry for all the questions at one time just wanted to get them all out of the way. Thanks, Bryan
  21. Awsome! I love were this is going and cant wait to see it done.
  22. Well its to for the suspension and drive-train. Note my first ever attempt at a heat stressed chrome exhaust, I'm gonna need some practice on that one. Thanks for looking and as always any tips, suggestions, or advice are greatly appreciated as I'm still a novice.
  23. Thanks for the advaice man i'll mess around with those setting. What exactlly is dullcote?
  24. Well this is my first post on here. This is the EXT I am building right now. I'm still learning the tricks of this craft and could really use you guys input. I don't mind criticism so please tell me what you think and give me any tips or pointers. Thanks. I painted the body lime gold metal flake, I havent polished yet. I call this interior scheme "Big Money" lol. Sadley these were the best pics I could take. I used these little plastic sew on pieces from the craft store for center caps and to me they came out ok.
