A thought and a thank you
crazyjim replied to Lyn's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Come on Lyn. Build one! Elmer's is no good - except for clear parts and flocking. My latest auction purchases should arrive tomorrow - can't wait. Hope you're doing okay. I sent you a message to your ebay address. -
Here's pics of the '32 Ford Phaeton I just finished. From the front, I used smaller parts bin headlights, smoothed the hood, wired & plumbed engine, tired my hand at brake lines, 19" & 23" Pegasus Ts with Pegasus disc brakes, voodoo head shifter, polished aluminum steering column with turn signal lever, PE door handles & gauge cluster, front to rear console, one piece tail light, polished aluminum exhaust pipes, Testor's rattle paint with Tamiya clear.

Excellent idea and looks good too.

Cob webbing used to done, like i said with straight lacquer and low pressure. Some big name customizer accidently forgot to thin, went to shoot, and this stringy stuff came out. The process, after prep and masking was to spray clear that was greatly retarded to keep from drying. In another spray gun that was redy to go with the straight lacquer, you just shot it out. Different air pressures gave different sprays so you had to adjust before the final. After drying you laid down a couple good coats of clear. Let dry and start block sanding. And then more clear and more sanding until the surface was flat. If I can ever find them, I'll post my old Capri and Buick Skylark that we cob webbed.

Looks most excellent - especially the color. As I look at your pics it appears to be a tangerine flavor. The top stripe looks like cobwebbing. How did you do that? Used to be straight lacquer with low pressure at the gun.

Hey marc, Didn't want to take me up on my offer? I've always used a soft damp rag to wipe the dust off and then put on a nice coat of wax - I use the Treatment Model Car Wax.
-
I like like too. Good looking model. I especially like what you did with the wheel wells.

Glue strips of Evergreen for the overlap strips and mouldings. Mask the body and spray the roof with spray adhesive from a distance. Let dry and shoot with semi gloss black. Someone posted this procedures several months ago.

The best way to get rid of the dust would be to ship all your models affected, to me. I'll clean and then display. You'd be welcome to visit them once or twice a year. Okay?

I did a search at Radio Shacks website and found 30ga wrapping wire but they have ony blue, red, and white. I need more colors than that.

I've tried super glue on ignition wires and it turns the wires white. I switched to epoxy.
-
Purple Hornies, Have you tried Al's Hobby Shop in Elmhurst or Royal Hobby Shop in Rockford?

My way of doing it - polish 3/16" aluminum tubing, polish it, cut a piece 1/2" long polish 1/8" aluminum tubing, polish it, cut a piece 1/4" long super glue pieces together with about 1/8" tubing about 1/8" down the 3/16" tubing these pieces will make the distributor order ignition wire from Scale Dreams or Model Car Garage order wire looms from one of the above epoxy ignition wires into distributor drill holes in block (I think it's a #69 drill bit) open telephone wire to expose 4 wires (black, green, red. yellow) strip colored coating from copper wire insert telephone coating into holes drilled in block & cut to appropriate length. These will represent spark plug boots insert ignition wires through wire looms and into the spark plug boots Done Other people seem to go from the block back to the distributor but that doesn't make sense to me. Using tthe aluminum tubing is about the same as buying pre-wired distributors but at a fraction of the cost.

Monogram/Tom Daniel Rommel's Rod
crazyjim replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I don't know. I'm still thinking 23" chrome T's all the way around, V10 engine or a V8 with a front mounted blower. Maybe I'll wait to see what some of you guys come up with first. -
There's some really nice models there - thanks for sharing.

That puppy looks real good! Do I detect a license plate lurking behind the grille? How did you do that? PE grille? Love the color and stance.

Fed Up...discouraged
crazyjim replied to #1Amatuer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Donn Yost (Lone Wolf Custom Painting) says to mix 2 bottles of Model Master and 1 bottle of LACQUER THINNER - the cheapest you can find. Donn has a DVD that you can purchase like I did. I always prime the body with Plastikote sandable primer (Car Quest). Get that body out of the garbage. You can strip it with Purple Power or brake fluid. There's a ton of posts in here on painting techniques. All you have to do is search a little. -
Best Pearl White
crazyjim replied to FujimiLover's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I use Plasticoat white primer and then use Tamiya TS65 clear pearl over the white. -
The paint is real good on both. I'm into race cars, so I like the 55 better.

You gotta be kiddin' me!! Unreal!

The mailman dropped off a 1936 Ford 5 window coupe from Rick (Scale Dreams) and a Corvette Sting Ray III from a trade with Nick Winters (dukefan69). Thanks guys.

Were there actually 2 door Valiants from the factory? I only remember 4door versions. I always liked the style of the car.

Okay. I get it. I was looking through Ebay and saw Rommel's Rod and was thinking it might look different by replacing the tank treads with wheels/tires.
