  1. Sorry, no pics but that's because my favorite street street rod hasn't been built. But one of these days it'll be a full fendered '34 5 window coupe in a deep purple color with flames. Small block Chevy with auto trans. The interior will be dove grey leather will a console that starts under the dash goes between the bucket seats, up the rear wall and over the roof to the windshield. I've dreaming about this puppy for many years.

  2. nice imp; i think i would rather have one of those than a manx but its a close call.

on the paint booth, make sure you got a proper fan. you *did* read the post about the guy blowing up his garage while using a homebuilt booth with an non or poorly insulated and fume proofed fan, right?

Been too busy to get the gas tank back in the buggy, but I'll get there.

I used a bathroom vent fan. The guy at the home improvement store said I shouldn't have any problems. I did read the article about the guy using the wrong fan.

  3. Thats a cool idea. All I have is a cardboard box.:(

Do you have any pictures of that dune buggy in the background? It looks nice. Is it a VW or Manx? Or something else?

The buggy is actually an EMPI Imp (1970) on a shortened '63 VW chassis. Put in a fresh 1640cc engine last year with all the goodies - Bosch alternator, 110 cam, electronic ignition, big valve heads. I have the front end off right now because I discovered a hole in the gas tank. The tank has been repaired but I need another pair of hands to balance the hood/dashboard/windshield while I reinstall the tank. Hopefully next week I'll be able to get it back together and take some pics for you. By the way, after the tank is in and I get it cleaned up, it's going up on Ebay. Interested in buying it?

  4. crazyjim ... :(:o:blink: the airbrush stuff is easy with a little practice..search on this and the other forums or pick up a DVD or book on it.

Donn Yost and Bob Downie come to mind...

I see that your also in the Fl area...one big worry down here is HUMIDITY.....so think about a dehydrator it will make a difference!

I have an airbrush book and have been thinking about getting the DVD one of the forum guys has.

Dehydrator? As in a food dehydrator?

  5. Finally found and purchased the tool cart I wanted and built a spray booth. It's 1/4" plywood with a 24" x 12" filter in front of a bathroom vent fan w/75 CFM. I installed 4 receptacles on the cart and plug a cord into a wall outlet for main power. Each outlet is switched so I can run the fan, light, and compressor indepenently. I have to cut a hole in my shop wall to run the vent through.

The other pics are of my model work area. I have my bottled paint, glue, Fuzzi-Fur, parts, tools, etc. all within easy reach.

    Hope you like it.

  6. haven't used it. I did a vinyl top on a 1970 Challenger following a post on this forum (I think). Glued 2 styrene strips to the roof to resemble the overlap strips, and strips at the side & rear base of the roof line. Sprayed the roof with spray adhesive and then matt black. Looks pretty good.

  7. WELCOME HOME, Brother.

    I'm USMC, 105mm FO, In Country 1969-70.

If you have it, HBO will be presenting "Final Salute" with Keven bacon on February 21, 2009. It's the story of a group that brings home the KIAs from Iraq. I read the book last week. Lots of tears. These people rerally take care of our fallen heroes.

You ever get up to Washington, DC for the Rolling Thunder demonstration? Or Memorial Day, Or Veterans Day? I'm a National Park Service volunteer at The Wall and am usually up there for those occasions.

  8. I hear ya , brother. Life is good. Unfortunately it's too cold here in Florida today to go out in the shop and work on a model car. I miss the '60s but am still there. Blue jeans and tye dye T-shirts are still my kind of clothes. Your handle - Helipilot and you like '60s music. That leads me to think you might have been a chopper pilot in the 'Nam.

  9. Holy cow - you guys are killing me. I've been telling myself for years to get out and use the air brush. Somebody says I need to have quick disconnect fittings and now a compressor with an air tank. How come one needs all that stuff?

I have a badger 200 with a Micro-Mark 27159 compressor (looks the same as a Paasche D500 unit). I put a water trap on the compressor and also a coupler with a dial for air pressure.

I've only used the air brush/compressor a couple of times, but I'm now in the market for some kind of rolling cart that will house a spray booth on top, a drawer for the air brush & tools, a shelf for the compressor, and a power strip to power everything.

  10. Sorry Jody. I remember offering to copy the magazine article and get it to yuo, but don't remember hearing that you wanted it. I can scan the article but have no idea how to get the scan into this forum. Want to provide me with a regular email address? I'll get it done this week sometime - promise. Can I post my real email address here or is that against the rules?

  11. When you pour the paint out the cup onto the water, I think the paint will stick to the inside of the cup. I've never tried that particular approach.

When you spray the paint over the water already in the container, you get the swirling effect.

  12. I think you should call yourself Fantastic Frank. Your models are fantastic!! But where did you get the Eldorado? That's my most favorite car ever. How about the kit manufacturer? Any info I can get so that I can find one or two for myself to build.

  13. You might want to check out mywingbling.com. They're down here in Florida. They put some kind of film over water, spary a release agent, and dip the parts into the water. They can do all kinds of finishes. I don't know if the chemicals would harm styrene and I don't know what they would charge. I know that doing the dashboard, side covers, boomerang on a Honda Gold Wing costs about $1500.00.
