Dan, I am really enjoying this one, as I have an original, un-built JoHan Convertible, and a F&F Resin 2-Door Hardtop, that I bought a long time ago, which is quite nice. I plan to add the fender skirts, and scratch build the split bench front seat, as no 1968 Fury III had buckets and a console. One will be an automatic on the column, and the other will be a 4-speed, both being 440 cars. The color combos have not been decided upon yet. Your build is looking pretty good so far.

I agree with you about the mirrors. There are no exact duplicates of those mirrors in scale. When I did the '74 Road Runner, I scratchbuilt a set of them. I started on a set for this one. I have to work on them a little more, and I may install them if I can get them to look right. I have some touch up to do to it.

A few months back, John Dezan posted a link to the restoration of this car, which is proported to be the last Hemi-powered '71 Dodge Charger built back in the day. The company which restored this car did a wonderful job. I do not have the funds to afford such a beast, but I thought that I could reproduce it in plastic, using AMT's excellent 1971 Dodge Charger R/T kits (Replica Stock and Street Machine), some scratchbuilding (Front Bucket Seat and rear seat upholstery patterns, and Center Arm-rest Cushion), some kitbashing ("Tuff" Steering Wheel, Bucket Seat Shells, and steel wheels), and some resin parts from Missing Link Resin (Dog Dish Hub Caps, Bazooka Exhaust Tips, Hideaway Headlamp Grille). I think I came pretty close to the real car, with the exception of the Dual Sports Mirrors and the Bumper Guards, and I added a set of Maryland license plates.

1962 Valiant Station Wagon - 10/21 Progress
Ron Hamilton replied to Tom Geiger's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Tom, you are too much. Maybe I will turn this one into a wagon. I have already cleaned up the glue-burn, and the bodywork should not be all that difficult. -
My Dad had a White on Red '62 Starfire Convertible back in the early sixties, which was a great car. I have two of the JoHan '63's to do one day. And that build is downright gorgeous, Ajay!!!!!

1/25 Revell '70 Plymouth HEMI 'Cuda 2'n1
Ron Hamilton replied to MachinistMark's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Well, I, for one, cannot wait to get a Hemi Cuda in my collection. I built an original MPC '70 back in the day, restored an ultra raggedy glue bomb, and turned the last Revell AAR into a Gran Coupe . From what I saw of the new kit, it does not look too bad. -

I bought it from Raoul Columbe aka "Sport Suburban", who posts here on the board. It's not a bad piece of resin, but it will have to be "worked" a little for fit, and it has a few minor pinholes to contend with. I got a tail lamp from the Modelhaus. I am going to use my '68 promo as a gage for gaps, and fitments. The '69 Javelin is a rare bird, and it will look great when I am done with it, and yes, I am going to "clean up" this '68, with re-chromed bumpers, a new paint job, a vinyl roof, and the SST stripes. I may even do a color change, as this green is not doing it for me.

Guilty as charged. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=79675#entry1015804 ...and here's one I am restoring. ...and a resin piece I will be doing as a "Big Bad" car.

Rich, That one is straight out of Highway Patrol. I watch the show to see those wonderful '50's cars, and they had some nice ones. Too bad it was filmed in Black and White.

Here's one I restored, a Jo-Han 1967 AMC Ambassador.

I have a Buick with a bordering-on-fused glass unit into the roof and I'm trying to figure out how to remove the glass without destroying the body. On this '60 Corvair, the glass was heavilly glued in at the base. I cut the glass loose at an inconspicuous place, using the Dremel with the 1" Zona circular blade, cutting just at the glass, and removed it from the car. And yes, It's ready for paint after a lot of work. Also, where did you get the Goodyear Power Cushions? The Lindberg 1961 Chevrolet Impala Convertible. I did my own whitewalls with a bow compass and flat white acrylic. That's a very nice build. I like the orange...looks very copper, and looks good with the black vinyl top. Charlie Larkin Thank You Charlie!!! -
My kind of car!!!! Excellent workmanship.

This is what I started with. A cleanly built '67 Coupe de Ville. As you can see, it had a rather high stance. It was glued tight, but I managed to get it apart. The previous owner had glued it pretty tight, and the glue melted divots in the roof, anf tulip panel, which I fixed. I painted it a Dark Metallic Green, with a two-tone Saddle and Beige Interior. I also lowered it, and added a set of wires on pin-whites.

Tom, I cleaned up the heavy mould lines on a AMT '61, and replaced the windshield and backlight moulding with plastic strip. On your Revell car, I would look at the AMT, measure the height of their windows relative to the edge of the roof, and remove that amount, and replace the mouldings. I'm also working over an AMT '60 Sedan, which is not as bad as the hardtop. -
Jo-Han 1967 AMC Ambassador DPL 2 Door Hardtop. I started with this one. The front suspension was broken in pieces. It was glued pretty tight, and it was a little dirty, but I was able to get it apart with little drama and it was cleaned and stripped. I had to rebuild the front suspension, and I lowered it while doing so. I decided on painting it with Testors' Fiery Orange Lacquer, with a Black Vinyl Roof, and Interior. I also added a set of wire wheel covers, with Goodyear Power Cushion Whitewalls.
