WBZ, our major news-radio station, started a series on traffic problems in Greater Boston today, and as part of the series (and to add a little humor) introduced me to this wonderful piece of music. You don't have to be from Massachusetts to get a few laughs out of it. Charlie Larkin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBqaXwamF0o

I just realized I didn't say so earlier, but this is coming out quite nicely, Wayne. Charlie Larkin

Good tip on the 1/25 scale. Thanks, Tony. I did think it was a tad big. As to the accuracy...I can see the issues, but honestly, I'm not going to worry about it too much, as the scracthbuilding required is way beyond my pay-grade to do, so I'll build and enjoy as it is. After some rather complex projects lately, I'm enjoying something fun and simple for a change. Charlie Larkin

Can't wait for Photobucket to let us see the pictures again...this sounds like it's shaping up nicely. Charlie Larkin

I have to second that. In my (former, sometimes still occasional) professional life, I saw far too many times the results of parents who didn't care and what happened, or cared too much and never let their children realize their full potential because of smothering. The result, almost universally was the same thing- total, complete failure and a very unhappy kid. Charlie Larkin -
I have more experience in education and therefore can be moved to school administration.... What type of discipline policies shall we set for failure to learn how to open boxes correctly? I'm thinking banishment to Palmer and Premier kits for a month. Charlie Larkin

Scratchbuilt Campers

Those are beautifully done. The pentagonal-shaped one is not only nicely constructed, but very pleasing visually, and I like the two-tone staining on the square unit. Charlie Larkin- 11 replies

I must admit, I do like the colors on it. Nice build Mike, I'll look forward to seeing it at MassCar in March. Charlie Larkin

Send it to Jeff if you do the Grand Marquis so I can build one of my grail 1:1s. Nice job on this one, Chuck. Charlie Larkin

You're doing a good job. And at 14, you still have A LOT to learn. Trust me. Thought from a teacher (me): if you listen as well in school as well as you do here, you'll have no major difficulties in life. You'll have obstacles and challenges, to be sure, we all do, but with what you're demonstrating to us, I see no reason why you won't succeed at whatever you do. Charlie Larkin -
I go to my club's show (MassCar) and Classic Plastic, and I make NNL-East as frequently as possible. Some year, I plan to do NNL-West, too. I went to LIARS this year, and despite a massive accident that wouldn't allow me to make it until 1:30, I still had a great time. I'll definitely go again next year if I can. I've never entered anything aside from a 3rd place entry from MassCar's in-house contest (your worst modeling disaster- and boy, was it a duesy!) But, this year, I would like to enter something in MassCar, and will probably start working on it in earnest this winter. Charlie Larkin

Stupid things people say at car shows

?!!?!??!!!! Place this individual on a sunny window sill and water daily. And I thought some of the kids I had when I was teaching were brain-dead... Charlie Larkin -
1933 stock top Willys
charlie8575 replied to twopaws's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Just for curiosity, Ed, supposing I wanted to build a totally stock (shocking, I know) '33 Willys, because rep-stock, they're such a cool little car- how much massaging would I have to do to get it to work? Anyone have recommendations for chassis, engine, etc.? Charlie Larkin -

Amazing how time slips by....

My understanding is that they're still being manufactured in Australia for sale elsewhere in the world that doesn't have the over-kill safety regs that we've ended up with. The U.S. (and Canada to make the life of the American manufacturers who supply most of their cars) has safety standards many times tougher than globally-adopted safety standards. What amazes me is that the Panther- one of the strongest, safest, best-built and longest-lasting cars ever to come from an American manufacturer, could not meet the 2012 standards- and I've seen those cars in very nasty accidents. That right there should tell you the nannies went overboard. Some interesting thoughts on the matter: http://www.fee.org/the_freeman/detail/sacrificing-lives-for-profits#axzz2krHZKMBK http://www.fee.org/the_freeman/detail/auto-safety-standards#axzz2krHZKMBK Charlie Larkin -
I beg to differ. Those little Shelby Chargers were very quick. The turbo 4 in those things would keep up with a Mustang GT, Z/28-IROC-Z or any V8 Firebird. Althoguh they might not have been as fast offline, once rolling, they're pretty scoot. Too bad about the tire in the windshelid. That's gonna hurt. You might be able to fill the offending marks, sand smooth, polish and vacuum-form a new one. Charlie Larkin

Makes two of us. I grabbed mine about two months ago. And of course, when I go to use it, I can't find it! Very good tool, though, you'll enjoy using it. Charlie Larkin

I was just reading MCW's description. There '64 is a 90%-complete kit. Add wheels/tires/engine, which suggests to me that it's a re-creation of the entire Jo-Han kit, at least the critical components. Charlie Larkin

How's This for a Yardsale Find?
charlie8575 replied to Edsel-Dan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's neat. Interesting promo. That's one truck I'd like to see a full-detail kit of. Charlie Larkin -
I actually found on a couple of other cars that supplied both decal/engraved scripts that using them together looks really good overall, so I tend to do that. Saves me from having to attempt to foil them, too. Sean- very nice work on that. Charlie Larkin

Beautiful work, Jay. If you're free March 16, please bring that to MassCar's show. We'd be thrilled to have that on the display tables. Charlie Larkin -

There are decent people in the world, and most frequently, they like to be quiet about it. Tip o' the topper to whoever this was. Charlie Larkin -
Very nice, Mike. Those lenses and wash look good. I love how the story is wrapping up, too. Charlie Larkin
