Strange...very cool, but weird. Whoever did build it, though, did a very nice, clean job with it. Charlie Larkin

1953 Cadillac Eldorado - - Class of '53 - - Entry #3

Funky scale or not, very nice, Rich. That's one car I would really love to see a full-detail plastic kit of, along with the Olds Fiesta and Buick Skylark. Charlie Larkin -

I think those are nice-looking, pleasantly-styled cars. Too bad they're not seen more frequently in any size. Nice job, Al. Charlie Larkin

I got the 1904 Darracq and 1905 Rolls-Royce. They'll go nicely with my Pyro and Life-Like 1/32s. Charlie Larkin

what does everyone do for a living?
charlie8575 replied to dwayne4385's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
It's very refreshing to hear someone your age say that. As for me for work....well, it depends on the day. Right now, I'm an independent contractor doing a variety of odds and ends businesses need (document management, paralegal work, training/employee development, etc.). Sometimes, I take photos for a service that provides verifications of goods for eBay purchases and banks. I play a little in real estate from time to time. I substitute-teach. I'm also trying to get into adjunct teaching for colleges. I do some paralegal work for friends who are lawyers. I'm in the process of starting a company offering modeling products, as well. If things go the way I want, some product will be available early next year. Lots of busy and ideas....not so much the money, but such is the "new" economy. Funny....doesn't seem to work so well. Amazing how time slips by....
charlie8575 replied to FASTBACK340's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Personally, I would've liked to see them completely update the Town Car and continue to sell it, keep it rear-drive, frame would've been nice, and a V8, without question. Putting the name on anything else waters it down, I don't care how good or bad the design it, a Town Car is a Town Car. The flying brick LTDs and Grand Marquis (1979-91) are good cars, overall, as well. Very different in a lot of respects than a B/RWD C/D-Body GM car, but still a great car that will last for many years with proper care and maintenance. Charlie Larkin -
Oilfield Dodge 1920- Unbelievable
charlie8575 replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I suspect both those things came into factor. The light weight combined with the skinny tires that tend to concentrate the weight in a small area (as opposed to distribute it), were probably what allowed those cars to do such amazing things. Very fun video to watch. Thanks, Carl. -
Nice work on the dash. Be sure to at least coat that with some clear gloss lacquer to seal it and prevent any problems down the road. Charlie Larkin

What's your build percentage?
charlie8575 replied to hotrod4ever's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Approximately 18%. That's not too bad, Chris. As for me....embarrassingly poor. But better than my dad's! Seriously, I need like 12-18 months of ZERO interruption and substantially better funding to build what I need to get to an acceptable ration for me. The only interruptions I could work with are eat, sleep, and lodge, and maybe a job if it was low hours/high pay (like THAT happens). Charlie Larkin -
An old member with a new look

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. It was good to see you at Classic Plastic Jay and that you're back at it. Hopefully, we'll see you at some of the other events, shows, etc. in the area. Let's go grab coffee or lunch sometime. Charlie Larkin -
Nice playing; I've always wanted to play an instrument, but discovered I have even less musical talent than model-building talent! Charlie Larkin

There are at least five Masons on this board that I'm aware of, including myself. On behalf of each of us, thank you. We do these things because it's what we're here to do- try to help others. As man was created an intelligent being, we ought to be an industrious one, and that includes relief for those that need it; from a few bucks for lunch to major medical care and all sorts of things. I can say without hesitation that I would be proud to call either of you brothers- both of you at various points through board posts and the like, have shown the type of character and thought that would fit well in any lodge. On behalf of my brethren "wheresoever dispersed over the face of the habitable Earth," Charlie Larkin Norumbega Fraternity Lodge, Newtonville, Ma.

How the right TV system changes my opinions
charlie8575 replied to sjordan2's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
My 19" mono TV has rotary knobs. And still works after over thirty years of service. Was kinda amusing watching the cable guy try to figure out how to hitch up everything. Charlie Larkin -
What made me smile tonight (well, officially last night now) was at lodge this evening, when one of our men showed up. At 92, he is a retired major general of the Massachusetts State Gaurd (which I believe has since been merged into the national gaurd), who came to lodge in his dress blues. He then led the Pledge of Allegiance as we opened and the first item of business was the donations to the VA that another brother who's a veteran organizes. My dad works at a VA hospital and I see what he does it for every time I go in there. I've met some of the finest people I've ever known at that hospital, even if I knew them for only a few minutes. And each of them wore one of the colors of the Armed Services of this nation. Each of these very special people deserve our thanks and gratitude. And in other nations that mark November 11 as "Armistice Day" (still its proper name in the U.S.), I ask that each of you this week take a moment to thank a member of your armed services for fighting for your rights. So, to clarify... Rancher Brown lives in East West Overshoe in Gnat-bite County and drives his '77 Chevy pickup (his only vehicle) to Phoenix for the day to do some shopping and remind himself of what other people look like. The truck is registered at his ranch, where it should be. That simple act of providing your own transportation would result in getting ticketed for driving a legally-registered, insured (if Arizona requires it?), inspected and approved vehicle will create a fine for you?? Sounds ever so slightly un-American, not to mention a gross restriction of all kinds of freedoms, etc. And plain stupid. With that kind of behavior, I was considering Arizona for "someday," or perhaps to buy some property to escape the winter here. Not with the government behaving like that. Charlie Larkin

Looking very nice, Wayne. Partially out of inspiration from you, partially because it was too good a deal to pass up, I grabbed a couple of the MPC-boxed Airfix brass-era cars over the weekend. I have a couple of ideas for a display I'm working out in my head now. Charlie Larkin

Very nice start so far, Junior. I like those Cornerstone buildings. They look very nice when built and detailed. Charlie Larkin
