  1. Very nice work on that engine. What are you going to use for the drive belt(s)? Charlie Larkin
  2. That came out very nicely. I'll be keeping an eye open for that resin body. Any idea who's doing it? Charlie Larkin
  3. Well, it started snowing here about 10 or a little after. So far, not too much. I had to run outside for a couple of minutes to broom up the mess from a branch that fell, and it felt like wet, heavy slush from the coating on the driveway. This is not going to be fun. Fortunately, Dad finally capitulated and agreed to get a working snow-thrower, although, in his fantastically Scottish manner, he got a little electric single-stage instead of something that might actually work. Fortunately, his car is being repaired, so there's one less to work around. I hope this snow ends up being more light than heavy. With the amount we're getting, anything else is not going to be enjoyable. Charlie Larkin
  4. Neat color, Geoff. I could see Morgan actually using something like that. Charlie Larkin
  5. A good kit in good hands is always a good thing to see. I'm a little disappointed to hear about Purple Power; seems more mandated "improvements" from on high may be to blame. For paint removal, looks like I might be going back to Easy-Off fume free. If I may, Mike, try bleach for the chrome stripping. I find putting that in a plastic jar with a threaded plastic lid works very well- seals tight and doesn't stink too bad. While I haven't tried it on newer Revell plating, I've found on mid-late 1990s vintage AMT plastic, it doesn't take more than around an hour to remove the plating. I then use the clear lacquer beneath as a "primer" coat. I'll enjoy watching this come to life. Charlie Larkin
  6. When I had a sciatica attack at 30. Hasn't been quite the same since. A couple of good slips that put me square on my knee wasn't fun, either. It still hurts periodically, weather not withstanding, although cold and humidity seem to bother me. Charlie Larkin
  7. Very cool. We'll look forward to seeing some results. Charlie Larkin
  8. During my teaching days, it was one of the reasons I really pushed modeling on the kids. It FORCES you to slow down...think about what you're doing, follow directions (more-or-less) or work out something if the instructions don't quite work. Frankly, I wonder if one of the reasons I lost jobs was because I was talking these kids out of SPED (and the school departments out of the huge amounts of money that go with SPED kids, but that's a rant for the disillusioned teacher's boards). For his age especially, he did a fine job on that and can definitely be proud of it. Charlie Larkin
  9. Wow...it's....green. Nice work on that. Charlie Larkin
  10. Perfect? No build ever is. Very nice work on your part- absolutely. Charlie Larkin
  11. Agreed, perhaps AMT can be convinced to fix that mess of a '58 and do something a little different. Randy- again, very nice builds. Charlie Larkin
  12. Beautifully done, Rich. That looks just right from everything from the parts used to the color. Charlie Larkin
  13. Took a few days to respond, then 2-4 weeks for the parts to arrive end of last week. We'll see where it lands. Charlie Larkin
  14. If I have the money, I know what Dad's getting for his birthday. Sometimes, he finds stick-and-tissue not quite challenging enough.... Charlie Larkin
  15. Very nice, Curt. Especially those wheels. That would make an excellent article for the magazine, too. Charlie Larkin
  16. Nicely done. Charlie Larkin
  17. Nice end to the build and the story, Mike. I'll certainly look forward to seeing that next month. Belated happy birthday, too. I hope you enjoyed it. Charlie Larkin
  18. There have been some fairly-detailed cutaway plans of P-51s published over the years, Harry. I'll ask my dad and see if he knows where they are. Charlie Larkin
  19. A few years ago, I got a ride home in a fairly new Azera from a friend of mine. Other than a little tire noise (he had put on rather aggressive performance-oriented tires), I was absolutely floored at how good a car Hyundai had become. I still thought back to a girl I knew in college and a couple of rides I had with her in her still fairly-new Excel (about five or six years old), and man was that thing tired already. I hope Craig and Mike's experiences are anomalies. I would be willing to try one if the time for a new car ever does come. Charlie Larkin
  20. I like Jim's idea. Plus, you get some storage out of the deal. That, and all things considered, you can get a used particle board wardrobe cheap, new ones reasonably, and used squirrel cage blowers for not a lot of money. I might seriously consider knocking something like that together. Charlie Larkin
  21. This man's work is beyond incredible. http://www.angelfire.com/ak2/intelligencerreport/plane.html Charlie Larkin
  22. While playing with Legos. Charlie Larkin
  23. Gorgeous job on this. Light blue is a nice color for these. Charlie Larkin
  24. For reference, here's a good picture of the integral-head 250 head in bare cast iron. Aside from the 2-bbl intake, it looks pretty much like one with the separate intake manifold from what I can see, although I guess, from reading the thread, that those had a real bad habit of cracking, which doesn't really surprise me, given the heat stresses and that big piece of iron sticking off the side unsupported. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showpost.php?s=7a5c0aa8946caddda84dda85f1c6c52c&p=4168015&postcount=8 Charlie Larkin
