  1. No biggie, I'll just pick a color I like and use that. For some reason, a weird setup like that says "Surf Green" to me. Charlie Larkin
  2. I agree with the others. Find a competent, independent jeweler and get an estimate to have it repaired properly. Independent shops tend to do their own work on-premises, are usually very competitive price-wise and you're supporting a truly local business, which is a nice thing to do. If you have any friends in a local fraternal order (Masons, Odd Fellows, K of C, etc.), ask them where they have their officer's jewels engraved and repaired. They usually know the good people in the area. A Merry Chirstmas to you, too. Charlie Larkin
  3. What a cool car to get pictures of. Charlie Larkin
  4. I have to agree, that's an impressive macro. The 35-70 macro on my FD/AE-1 is all I have, I've toyed with getting one for my K1000 or SF-10, dpending on what I can scare up. I'd like a little longer focal length, as I found for model close-ups, the one I have is still a bit too short. Charlie Larkin
  5. I hope everyone is enjoying their Christmas. We're down to not much in the way of family, and with my grandmother in the hospital with pneumonia, it'll just be my parents and I today, and visit Nana later this week when she gets home. Some great holiday humor in this thread, and thanks for some good laughs to those that posted them. Charlie Larkin
  6. A headache with a last-minute menu change for dinner tomorrow and less than twenty minutes until the stores closed... Fortunately, I was able to address it. Over the last couple of weeks, I've grabbed a '57 Ford (I LIKE this kit!), a couple of jars of paint and a copy of Scale Auto because something is wrong with distribution and my local shop isn't getting his Model Cars order for some reason. Charlie Larkin
  7. I was just thinking the same thing. I'm not sure if Matador Red/Onyx Black was factory or not (I'm seriously going to check), but that does look nice on that car. I'll admit, I'm not too into the concept, but this is going to be a nice build when done. Charlie Larkin
  8. I'm toying with it because I frequently have to move my workspace, and the lighting in my house is dreadful. I've tried desk lamps on the tray-table, and a variety of other things, and they proved to be as much of a nuisance as anything else. I also don't have the place to do much custom-fabrication right now. Expensive, yes, but sometimes worthwhile. And that 12x18 space is actually bigger than what I have now. The Tamiya mat isn't the only game in town, either. The battery issue can be solved with rechargeables. A little more up front, but, especially if you build a lot, they'll pay for themselves PDQ. I tried an Opti-Visor once, and didn't find it comfortable, either to wear or work with. While this might not be the most economical solution, it's not a bad one. And yes, definitely do check prices. My hobby shop is substantially less money than Micro-Mark. Charlie Larkin
  9. Nice work on that garage, Jerone. Charlie Larkin
  10. I'm not so sure about the Mirage, although it is neat in its own right, the Oregon plate is certainly attractive. I would like to see these models of all the 1970s compacts come back. Maybe they weren't the best cars, but they were very important milestones in the development of American automobiles, and are interesting simply for that. Charlie Larkin
  11. Do you remember the color, Drew? I might have to build that just for the weird factor. Charlie Larkin
  12. If this happens, I might actually give one of these a shot. I always thought of Pocher kits as the ultimate in a lot of ways. If they're not stupidly expensive, it could happen. Charlie Larkin
  13. I think Karl is referring to the stand with the cutting mat, magnifier, spotlight and some small tool storage. I do know I'd like one. I might grab one with the little infusion of cash I had- a Christmas present for myself, I suppose. The paint stands Tom's talking about are nice, too. http://www.micromark.com/hobby-work-station-for-modelers-and-craft-work,8814.html Charlie Larkin
  14. A few years ago, one of the guys around here built a diorama in an old TV set that looked like a black-and-white gangsters show set in the 1930s. VERY cool. This will be good, too, and I'll look forward to watching it develop. Charlie Larkin
  15. A decent job so I can either.... A. move back out of my parent's house or B. take over the payments and move them out. Barring that, a couple of books I'd like and a decent small compressor for my airbrush would be nice. Along with a decent spraying area. Charlie Larkin
  16. So...you wanted to build it fast in case the Earth-consuming fireball did come? It still looks better than anything that takes me a year to do. Charlie Larkin
  17. I do like the execution and idea. I'll bet Plymouth would have been able to sell a fair number of those if they had made them. Charlie Larkin
  18. Those cruisers are probably the nicest-looking things in Bridgeport. Yours, Felix, is an especially-nice representation of one. Charlie Larkin
  19. Looking good. I have to build mine someday. Every one of these I've seen built looks so nice. And it's '59 Caddy...what's not to like? Charlie Larkin
  20. Yep, that does rather sum it up. Charlie Larkin
  21. Between the shootings in Connecticut and the end of the world silliness, there were enough panicked kids so the City decided to post a cop at each school- sometimes presence can be calming. When, at the end of the day nothing had happened, we ended up walking out at about the same time. Me: Well, no Earth-consuming fireball and no wackos coming to shoot up the place. Could've been worse. Him: Yep, today goes in the plus column. I did, however, hear mumbling about the vocational high school being evacuated due to a bomb threat or something, but haven't been able to confirm this as of yet. Charlie Larkin
  22. 1:43 AM EST here, and nothing other than a little rain coming down and still about 37* F. Yep....the end is here. Actually, I might be getting a real job before too much longer for the first time in several years...maybe there is something to it... Charlie Larkin
  23. I hope this comes out soon. Although I have yet to start on the other two, I was absolutely smitten with what I saw when I opened those boxes. I'll be one of the first to order. Oh, and Gary...could we talk you into another round of Aerosedans? Please? Charlie Larkin
  24. I'm quite sure your friend will be proud to display that in his home. Very well done. Charlie Larkin
  25. Nicely done. One kit I would like to see brought back to its original form. Charlie Larkin
