We really need more models of brass-era and capital C classics available. Those things are just cool, and I can see them coming out as marvels in the hands of a very diverse group of builders from Geoff Brown and Tom Elliffret to Chuck Most and Dr. Cranky. Charlie Larkin

One finally showed up here, so I grabbed it, probably against my better judgement this week, but whatever! Looks like another very good effort. The molding of the gas tank and spare tire well separately suggests to me that a Ranchero, wagon or Courier may in fact be in the future. Charlie Larkin

Those bricks look good, Tony. I'd say they're about the right size for 1/32. The cut stone pieces add interest, too. Charlie Larkin

Model room space
charlie8575 replied to greymack's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Since moving home and being stuck in the living room, I've been confined to try tables. Now that I'm finally reclaiming my old bedroom, at least to a degree, I'm going to install a folding 2x3' table on the wall that I can use for my model building. I might see about rigging some kind of a portable spray booth and venting it from the window, too. I'm still figuring out how I'll be displaying stuff, especially a couple of models that'll be too big for the box once finished. Where I figure I'll also be here for at least another year or so, that may be the bigger challenge. I'm thinking I may wait until I have my own place again to do major displays, but at least I'll have somewhere to build. Charlie Larkin -
Speaking after all my time in teaching, there have been a lot of really super ideas here. While we might debate the merits and demerits of physical punishment (within limits, I can see its effectiveness myself), I think the incentive/disincentive model can work if it's used well and consistently from situation to situation. I like Dave's solution- reimbursement and a sign-out list. I think those are a great idea to teach responsibility and respect of property. I also agree- a lock and key on the box is a good idea. So might be getting him a basic set of relatively inexpensive tools, although I would use caution as cheap tools can be very dangerous. I received a very sobering lesson on that my senior year in high school when my woods teacher- one of the nicest people I've ever known and a great teacher, almost lost his eye to a crummy screwdriver that snapped. I'd stick with a decent brand of tools, such as Craftsman or Stanley. 3-4 screwdrivers, a couple of adjustable wrenches, a couple of pliers and a small hammer should be enough to get him moving. However, forcing an understanding of accountability are key. All the punishment in the world- physical, mental, emotional, financial, will do a child no good if there's no lesson learned in the end and no tangible way of making account of their actions. When I've had to go all Nazi on my junior high kids (which, in today's environment of everyone wins and overly permissive parenting is far too frequent for my tastes,) I make VERY sure they understand what they did, why I adjudicated the matter in the manner I did, and what I expect them to learn from it. From kicking a kid out of class to a reflective paper to penalizing everyone ten points if someone is caught cheating, they know what they did and why things are happening. I think Dave, you've taught your lesson, and I hope it does stick. Now...grab the snow-shovel and make him start digging. Charlie Larkin

Tangential to this whole styling topic, I ran across this commentary. Thought I'd share it here. http://lfb.org/today/the-homogenization-of-the-car/ Enjoy. Charlie Larkin -
That lighting is spectacular, Tom. GREAT work on this. Charlie Larkin

GMC "Big Block" V6 and 702 "Twin-Six"
charlie8575 replied to 1972coronet's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The V6 was a cut-down 348, and I'd imagine the 351 was a cut-down 409, so you might be able to cobble up something using a spare W-Motor. Charlie Larkin -
Wayyyy OT. Computer-related help needed.

Try clearing your browser history. You might also want to try a different browser. Make sure your helper programs like Flash and Shockwave are working, too. Charlie Larkin -
We need at least one or two new Stanleys in plastic....preferably in 1/25. Nicely done. Charlie Larkin

1959 Chevy Impala----Just a tease! 4/9/16
charlie8575 replied to MrObsessive's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Wow. This takes a lot of work...and with the engineering headaches, costs me my desire to make opening panels! But, I'll gladly watch you do it. Charlie Larkin -
Looks nice, Mike. Right now, I don't even have an open tray-table. I'm thinking next time I'm subbing, I might sneak into the art room for a few minutes after school and use one of the tables for a little building. Charlie Larkin

anyone remember Gordon Shumway?
charlie8575 replied to diymirage's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think ALF was the really last funny TV comedy, along with some of the other shows of that era, like Mr. Belvidere, Full House, Boy Meets World, and similar programs. Great shows that weren't too confrontational or overtly offensive. A little coarse comedy every so often is okay, but too much lessens your humanity and sends wrong messages to our youth. And I do remember the ALF cartoon, it was on when I was in high school or about my freshman year in college. I enjoyed that, too. Charlie Larkin -

charlie8575 replied to Jared Roach's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
You're off to a good start, Jared. That looks like a nice little truck, too. I've been toying with getting an S-10/15 for myself, if I can find one in nice shape. If it's as nicely-appointed as yours, that makes it all the more appealing. Charlie Larkin -
Very cool, Chuck. I do like the weathering on this. Just right- not over the top. Charlie Larkin

El Camino Abomination
charlie8575 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
They sell the wagon, I'm first in line. Yes, the cargo area is a lot smaller (about 70 cu. ft. vs. 92.4 for my Roadmaster,) but it would be so nice to have a new, perhaps more of a midsize, but still closer-to-real wagon. It's roughly the G-body wagon or Magnum, minus a couple of grocery bags. Charlie Larkin -
Beautiful job on everything. That lighting is an especially nice touch. Charlie Larkin

Whilst he looks at hers! Simple, but effective. I like it. Charlie Larkin

I missed this one earlier. I like it, Nick, especially the belt/hose display. Elastics for the belts, I'm assuming? I'm also curious- where did you find that Courier? Charlie Larkin

Chevrolet needs to authorize production for this in coupe, sedan, convertible and wagon form. This is very, very cool. Charlie Larkin
