I like the idea for making ice in the cooler. Some very neat ideas. Another idea, if you want a little challenge, Nick, is to try scratchbuilding a diorama, using bass or balsa for framing a garage wall and clapboard. Next time you're going by a construction site, check out how a wall is framed, and try to grab some pictures. If your high school still has industrial arts, talk to your woods or drafting teacher, and see if they can help you do some design for it. Charlie Larkin

Good business practices alert
charlie8575 replied to charlie8575's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Very true, Greg. The Post Office, when functioning well, does do a very good job at its assigned duties. We do need to remember the people who help the process along and who make the businesses using them look good. It's a team effort, folks. Charlie Larkin -
Friday afternoon I placed an order with Scale Finishes, deciding to take advantage of their $5/bottle offer for Friday, and ordered some Garnet Maroon for my '50 Olds. Now, allowing for a crazy weekend for the mail, the weekend itself and so forth, I e-Mailed Jameston and asked him how he ships and when I could reasonably expect it, just so I knew when to keep an eye open for it. I came home this afternoon from running a couple of errands and my paint had already arrived. If the product is as good as the shipping practices, I'll be back for more. I'll know later this week when I actually have some time to build and paint again. Charlie Larkin

Wooden Model Cabinet
charlie8575 replied to Car Crazy 81's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Beautiful cabinet. Definitely one I would like to have the credit for building! To help find your paint bottles, Avery #5418 labels are an almost perfect fit for the top of Testors small bottles and fit very well on Model Master, Floquil and Polly-S bottles. Charlie Larkin -
If you're open to ideas, Chris, I have one. Chrysler until a year or two ago, offered a color called "Cool Vanilla," which is a nice off-white/cream/yellow cast, and looks very similar to the white on a head of root beer. You might want to look into that. Another idea might be your preferred source of Wimbledon White, which has a cream cast to it. Charlie Larkin

Dunno, Nick, that's VERY clean. Does the young lady in your picture have anything to do with the neatness? Small area, but functional. The fish are good company, too. Charlie Larkin

If I hit that enormous jackpot, or even just the $1,000,000 5-ball hit, I may just do that. Maybe find some nice little senorita for myself, too. Charlie Larkin -
$425,000,000! What would you do?

Brilliant! I think that's one of the best ideas I've seen! I seriously have a business plan ready. If I hit it, I'm doing it. If you hit, we need to talk. Charlie Larkin -

After retaining a lawyer to act as my representative and protect my privacy, I would.... 1. Make sure my family and my closest friends never need to worry about anything again through tax-advantaged gift structuring. 2. Set up an investment account for myself to provide some amount of income for me. 3. Purchase large quantities of income and residential real estate, for my own use and for rent or charitable needs (e.g.: emergency shelter for people who need it with some qualifications.) 4. Buy some toys- some cars, perhaps get a pilot's license and purchase a Piper Cub or similar classic light plane, and a private passenger car and some cool antique diesel locomotive and have a licensed engineer on retainer for when I wish to travel. 5. Start several businesses. The best charity is to make people less dependent on charity by giving them meaningful, decent work. 6. Start the high school I'm designing as my M.Ed. thesis- an eight-year program with professional training going from 7th grade to Senior year with two years extra to train students in various professional occupations. 7. Substantially fund several charitable causes that are important to me, particularly several charities sponsored by the Masons, several historical foundations and a few Armenian things. 8. Find ways to improve life for as many people as I can. 9. Run for Governor of Massachusetts and possibly run for President later. With that much money, NOBODY can or will buy me. 10. Enjoy life a little. Charlie Larkin Charlie Larkin -
Very tasteful. A nice mild custom with an excellent execution. I think Flame Red/either Gunmetal or Woodsmoke Gray were a factory option. Otherwise, Ford used to have a code "S" for a custom color application at the factory, and I would imagine such a thing would have been available. I think the Flame Red with Gunmetal Gray would have been rather sharp with the white/red interior. Charlie Larkin

I was getting an alignment today, and say a contest from one of the tire companies on a tear-sheet holder. I think it was Toyo. It read something to the effect of "If the Mayans are wrong, free tires for everyone in the world!" And it was promoting a trip for two to the Yucatan. I almost entered just for giggles. The Mayan ruins are supposed to be quite a site to see. Charlie Larkin -
That explains why it's so unique-looking and stylish. Neat piece of automotive architecture and a nice job on the model. Charlie Larkin

Dig through the finished builds section. It should be in there someplace. I've seen this one up close and personal, and it came out very nicely. Charlie Larkin

Very nice job on the fastback. The coupe looks like grape tonic. Charlie Larkin

This is VERY cool! I'm so happy to see so many stock Model Ts being built lately. I need to grab one of those Double T kits and start building. What are you making that tow boom from? Charlie Larkin

Cool. Are you going to put a battery in the trunk or will you do the old power-feed from a permanent base trick? Either way, I really like this. Charlie Larkin -
Looking good, Chris. Question: how do you find those cheap-o craft paints airbrush, and what do you do to thin them for it- water, Windex, alcohol? Charlie Larkin

Happy Thanksgiving
charlie8575 replied to Madd Trucker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I hope all enjoyed their Thanksgivings. With less and less surviving family, it makes me appreciate what's left more. Charlie -
Geoff, that is certainly one to be proud of. Someday, I'll get to building mine and yours will be an inspiration. Nice work on that. Charlie Larkin

I like the pearl on that blue. Nice concept and execution. Charlie Larkin

Nice job on the Sable and Taurus wagon. A Taurus wagon is something I would like to see in plastic someday. An iconic car of America of the 1980s and '90s if ever there was one from that era. Charlie Larkin
