Maybe GM should bring back Pontiac?
charlie8575 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I rather like it. And yes, dollars and cents doesn't always make sense. Goodwill and iconoclast image are as much as the bottom line. The idea of using Pontiac as a low-production specialty line with cars like a new Firebird, a new take on the Bonneville, and the GTO might be a smart way forward. Just as long as they don't use the ill-proportioned Cadillac XTS body-shell and its missing-two-cylinders engine for it. Charlie Larkin -
Geoff- OUTSTANDING! That looks incerdible. Bryan- that's very nice, too. That looks more like white oak than white oak. May I ask what brand of artist's pencils you use? Do you shade the grain or color it in directly with the point? Charlie Larkin

I tried to get an airbrush hose that would fit my Testors Mighty-Mini air compressor, only to find that the fitting is some mongrol size and has a pilot shoulder at the end of the threads that make any hose fitting ill-fitting. The airbrush, a Paasche H, has a teeny-tiny thread that nobody makes. The only alternative I'm left now is to buy a 1/4" thread quick-disconnect for the compressor end of the hose and a new air compressor... So much for painting this weekend. Charlie Larkin

That wood looks great. Does the bronze leave any metallic finish at all? That would be my one reservation about trying it with that color. That aside, Geoff, it really looks nice. Charlie Larkin

What's olds is new again! (it's cleared...)
charlie8575 replied to MachinistMark's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Wow, that color looks good on that! Very, very nice, Mark. Charlie Larkin -
Jolly good, as Skip said, is right! Those stripes came out beautifully! The wood looks like it'll shape up nicely, too. It's guys like you that make me want to hang it all up sometimes...then I say "I can do that, too. Or at least try." Charlie Larkin

Beautifully done. That's one model I would be happy to see in resin. Charlie Larkin

Any thought as to when the corrected skirts will be made/next run? Chuck- GREAT reviews. Thanks. Charlie Larkin

We actually have been trying to get in touch with Rich Argus...no go. I did hear from my closest friend, though, who now lives in Brooklyn. Not surprisingly, the communications system on Long Island is a mess. Hopefully, something will be heard sooner rather than later. If you do hear anything from them, Rich (or anyone else,) please send me a private message. They have a whole bunch of New Englanders and a bunch of guys from Town of Newburgh worrying and ready to lend assistance in any way we can. Charlie Larkin

A question was posed in my e-Mail this morning. As MassCar was planning on heading to the LIARS show in a couple of weeks, and at least as of now, I believe we still are... 1. Does anyone know the status of anyone from LIARS re: safety, place to live, etc.? 2. Is the show still on to the best of anyone's knowledge? Paramount of course is that everyone is safe and well, but it would help if we can find out if the show is still on so all going can plan their trip. Charlie Larkin

I've been in forced nomadism for most of the day. I returned from my friend's apartment this morning and found my road closed. So, I just went and did some window-shopping and killed some time. I returned to my end of town, and saw a my road still somewhat closed, but it appeared possibly open to residents; the guy from Mass Electric wasn't too sure how it was working. So, I decided to try going down the street, and was greeted with electric lines strewn across the street. I'm at Wendy's now, grabbing a quick bite for lunch and checking e-Mail...glad I grabbed my laptop when I abandoned ship last night. I'll be heading home shortly- or at least trying to. I'm still sitting up in Leominster waiting for my laptop to recharge and contemplating going around the corner to see if I can bunk in with a friend of mine here. The leaves are rustling on the trees pretty good. There were a few down branches, and Clinton St. in Berlin was closed, forcing me to go up the nearly unlit portion of Rt. 62 along the Clinton-Berlin line. There's a Mass Electric guy at the counter...I may ask him if he knows what the status is for Marlborough yet. Charlie Larkin

modelling research project

I second just about everything Bob said, except that none of my cars have been cool enough to kit- except my four 1991-96 GM B-body wagons and I don't have the cash to blow on four Modelhaus kits right now. Someday, though, I will. Charlie Larkin -
I'm not sure where Jim is, Mike is well west of me. In Marlborough (35 miles or so west of Boston,) we lost power in a bunch of places, and a large tree fell on one house according to reports from the elderly man who's the greeter at Wal-Mart, which shut down Rt. 85 going into Marlborough from Hudson, where Wal-Mart is. Our house lost power at about 5:00, and I'm up in Leominster (about 20 miles north and slightly west,) where there's power and dinner at Denny's. Dad went to Mom's semi-assisted-living apartment in Waltham to help her out and stay there for the evening. I might bunk in with a friend around the corner if it stays messy. I can say with relative certainty that school will be canceled tomorrow. Charlie Larkin

They are pretty cool. I've built a couple of those over the years. Nice job on yours. Charlie Larkin

If Dawn dish soap is available in Canada (or some other grease-targeting dish soap,) try that. For curiosity, George, what are you using? Charlie Larkin -
Yay, a new McNally story! Charlestown? West Rox? Rozy? 'Cause Beacon Hill ain't got no garages!* Charlie Larkin *For our non-New Englanders.....West Rox= West Roxbury, Rozy= Roslindale, which, along with Charlestown and Beacon Hill, are sections of Boston.

The 1931 Cadillacs are very nice, too. Someday, mine will all be built. Charlie Larkin
