  1. Very nice work, Jared. Charlie Larkin
  2. You need to be bored and in a rush more often. Nice job. Charlie Larkin
  3. Quite true.... But, after many years of getting used engines, I'll be the first to tell you that a reputable yard WILL stand behind what they sell. And usually as a pretty decent discount. I would suggest, though, if you buy a used engine to change the stuff that usually brakes while it's out- starter, alternator, a/c compressor, power steering pump, and so forth, provided your budget allows. At a bare minimum, I would do the starter- much easier to change without the rest of the truck in the way. Charlie Larkin
  4. To accommodate my space at the moment, I'm in the process of designing a combination wall unit for my bedroom which will be floor-to-ceiling bookshelves with a fold-out work area in part of it. The kits might need to stay downstairs mostly, but I'll at least have someplace to build in peace, quiet and relative lack of disturbance. If my parents do in fact follow through to move back to Greater Boston and let me take over the house and payments (assuming my situation improves to the point where I can do it,) my bedroom will become my hobby room and "clean shop," with my drafting board and library. Charlie Larkin
  5. Not sure of the front, but I like the profile. The taillights are nice, too. Wonder how it'll work as a convertible? Charlie Larkin
  6. Actually, I'd probably put a radio in if I was upstairs or could position it for reception in the basement (or get an exterior antenna.) Wherever I end up, it'll probably be in the house, so a kitchen and bathroom will probably be pretty nearby anyway. One other thing I think I might put in is some bookshelves for reference and possibly a swing-out laptop stand. Charlie Larkin
  7. Now you understand why I really don't want to move down there, Mike! It's actually been quite humid here this summer, and I've been trapped inside because I don't deal well with humidity. Glad to see the drop-off went well. If he needs anything locally, tell him he's welcome to contact me and I'll be happy to help out if I can. Charlie Larkin
  8. Boy, I wish more kids would get that at home! After all the years I spent in the classroom, with smart-mouthed, entitled little twerps who would walk all over their parents, then the parents would blame me for the problems they caused! As I'll be returning to the classroom on a part-time basis this fall out of necessity, I can only hope some of these tough times the last couple of years has started to change the tide a little. I'll know in a few weeks, but even beyond that is the laws that force parents to let their children run the house. Something is very wrong here. Charlie Larkin
  9. I like the color and fogged striping. Nice job, Jim. Charlie Larkin
  10. Very nice work on this second-generation Taurus, Tom. How did you convert the SHO kit, and how did you do those wheelcovers? Charlie Larkin
  11. Either a large bedroom lined with shelves and a 2x10' workbench, situated in such a manner that a spray booth can be directly evacuated out a window, or someplace in a dry, dehumidified basement, with a similar spraying area, and set aside from the woodshop. I'd also have my drafting table and cabinets in there, too. Either would be well-lit with color-corrected lighting for accurate paint matching. I'd also like a mini machine shop and some photo-etching equipment. Charlie Larkin
  12. Very nice, Ron. That conversion is definitely one I'll add to the "get" list. Charlie Larkin
  13. Both the model and the photography, as Rob mentioned, are excellent. Very, very nice job. Charlie Larkin
  14. Very nice, Eric. That green looks right at home on that thing, too.
  15. Very nice job on that, Patrick. You're proud and rightly so. Charlie Larkin
  16. Very little- lack of a suitable work area is creating that problem. Sometimes, though, if I can re-arrange the space in the house for a couple of hours, I can do something. As I'm in the process of re-claiming (finally!) my bedroom from my parents' storage, I'm looking at installing a folding work-table on the wall and using that, so I still have some space without permanently dedicating it to to some furniture. Charlie Larkin
  17. Agreed on all counts... Charlie Larkin
  18. Very nice, Manny. The details and night-shots really make the model. Charlie Larkin
  19. Ya think?? I was driving by a spare lot for a Chevy dealer in the area and they had about a dozen Caprices on the lot. Really nice-looking cars. I was surprised to see: 1. The price wasn't that bad- $33,000 and change. Considering Ford is charging $37,000+ for the Taurus Police Interceptor, I think Chevrolet will be getting a lot of bids. If they did this in consumer trim at about that price, or less, I'd buy one without even thinking twice about it. 2. They really are bucket seat with floor shift. But, there's definitely enough room in there to put in a bench seat (new big rear-drive Buick, perhaps?) 3. What really caught me off-guard is that these are still being built in Australia? I'll be it has to do with calculation of the CAFE standards. But, what they hay, GM is an American-owned company (quite literally considering I believe Uncle Sam does still have some percentage of it right now,) and I have no problem with the Aussies at all. 4. 15/24 for that 366 cu. in. V8 with short gearing and a lot of power is actually pretty respectable. If they put that 4/8-cylinder V8 set-up in this, I'll bet it would do the same or better. All that said, this goes for sale to the public, even with a smaller V8 (seriously- I'm tired of having V6s, and I don't care how good they are, shoved on me,) and I will buy one as soon as I have a decent job again. Charlie Larkin
  20. For those of us getting ready to build stock... http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/static/NA/Oldsmobile/1950%20Oldsmobile/1950_Oldsmobile_Foldout/dirindex.html And colors: http://www.tcpglobal.com/aclchip.aspx?image=1950-oldsmobile-pg01.jpg Charlie Larkin
  21. I've always wondered what the difference was between a regular 2-door sedan and a club coupe. Now I can see the differences. I wonder how hard it would be to lengthen the roof to make a correct 2-door sedan? Either way, and as I build stock, it's not that big a deal to me about the racing stuff, I'm still really looking forward to this kit. Charlie Larkin
  22. What a cool story to go along with the car, too. Charlie Larkin
  23. I wasn't quite around then, but I do agree- the cars, for the most part, were much, much better looking. Designed by artists and sculptors, not style-less engineers who would probably mix plaid and polka-dot, assuming you could even get a lot of the current crop to dress respectably. I thought they were going with a column shift? I was actually somewhat surprised to see the Taurus cruiser didn't have one. Maybe this will start the way back to a six-passenger car. Add in a perimeter frame and I'll be completely happy.... Charlie Larkin
  24. Well, just now I noticed the ads. They're far enough over to the right so I really don't care.... And I haven't logged on/off in the last day or so. Charlie Larkin
  25. I use Firefox and have never seen these. Charlie Larkin
