1959 Chevy Impala----Just a tease! 4/9/16
charlie8575 replied to MrObsessive's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I know this will be another top-notch piece of construction, Bill. I had a little trouble making out what you were saying at when you started the Dremel, though. Seeing that video, short as it is, was very helpful. Charlie Larkin -
This is very, very cool, Don. Charlie Larkin

Burns Original Wee, sleekit, cowrin, tim'rous beastie, O, what a panic's in thy breastie! Thou need na start awa sae hasty Wi bickering brattle! I wad be laith to rin an' chase thee, Wi' murdering pattle. I'm truly sorry man's dominion Has broken Nature's social union, An' justifies that ill opinion Which makes thee startle At me, thy poor, earth born companion An' fellow mortal! I doubt na, whyles, but thou may thieve; What then? poor beastie, thou maun live! A daimen icker in a thrave 'S a sma' request; I'll get a blessin wi' the lave, An' never miss't. Thy wee-bit housie, too, in ruin! It's silly wa's the win's are strewin! An' naething, now, to big a new ane, O' foggage green! An' bleak December's win's ensuin, Baith snell an' keen! Thou saw the fields laid bare an' waste, An' weary winter comin fast, An' cozie here, beneath the blast, Thou thought to dwell, Till crash! the cruel coulter past Out thro' thy cell. That wee bit heap o' leaves an' stibble, Has cost thee monie a weary nibble! Now thou's turned out, for a' thy trouble, But house or hald, To thole the winter's sleety dribble, An' cranreuch cauld. But Mousie, thou art no thy lane, In proving foresight may be vain: The best laid schemes o' mice an' men Gang aft agley, An' lea'e us nought but grief an' pain, For promis'd joy! Still thou are blest, compared wi' me! The present only toucheth thee: But och! I backward cast my e'e, On prospects drear! An' forward, tho' I canna see, I guess an' fear!

Dreaming of a model?
charlie8575 replied to jmpsebring's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Bermuda would result in at least one or two sales to me, anyway. An A (later G)-body Malibu would also be well-received by me, and if a wagon, in cases, especially if the correct nose-clips and interiors were supplied to make all four variants; and were all of them came with 305s one model year or another, one engine could be supplied! I never heard the incorrect body leveled at Revell's '63 Chevy, although I'd imagine you could put the AMT body on the Revell chassis and interior and get a pretty decent model if that is in fact the case. How to find those dropped parts!
charlie8575 replied to Harry P.'s topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Hmmm....this is a good idea. For those not comfortable buying this stuff or approaching female friends or relatives to purchase or relinquish old stockings, I'll bet fibreglass screen would work well, too. Charlie Larkin -
Food Dehydrators & Paint Dryers
charlie8575 replied to JayVee's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
With the coming extinction of incandescent bulbs in the U.S., have you looked at alternatives, such as an aquarium heater? Or will you switch to a 40W bulb and just wait far longer? I do know that some halogen lightbulbs will continue to be made, Sylvania, I understand, is actually making them in the U.S., too, in a plant in Kentucky. They're a little lower wattage, but should still produce adequate heat to work, it just may take a little longer. Interesting idea, and nicely done. Charlie Larkin -
How to replicate French yellow headlight bulbs
charlie8575 replied to Junkman's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I've always wanted to run yellow headlights here just to watch the local cops go completely blank with confusion....which, sadly, for many of them, the difference will be unnoticeable. This is very cool. Thanks, Christian. Charlie Larkin -
Too bad they don't ship outside Europe from the looks of it. And....$200?! As to air travel. I believe if you agree to have it checked, they'll let you take something like that onboard, as it's out of the cabin. Charlie Larkin

All I can say is "paging Mr. Goldberg, Mr. Rube Goldberg, your model is waiting." Bill- I take it the mechanism you and Ernie used are somewhat similar? That's a nice piece of engineering, all kidding aside. I have a goofed-up body, maybe I can try this as an experiment with one of the doors. Charlie Larkin

early 70s Chevy 250 straight 6?
charlie8575 replied to tvandmoviecars's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I know someone is casting that Trumpeter six-banger. I'll ask around and see what I can find. Charlie Larkin -
Dave. One question, though, do you brown the beef before adding it to the pot, or let it cook, as you didn't specify. I'm SO glad I bought a Lodge Dutch oven before I had to move back home. One of the single most useful kitchen implements I have. That chili sounds absolutely divine. Ian- I'm only a Mason by fraternal affiliation, not trade or hobby. That pizza oven looks fantastic. Can I fly you stateside and ask you to build one for me? Pat- I'm seconding the request- what goes in that pizza? It looks quite interesting. Charlie Larkin

Studebaker Community Build...with a Meet & Greet in South Bend, IN?
charlie8575 replied to Casey's topic in Community Builds
Cool, especially the idea of meeting in South Bend. That would be a nice early start at my birthday (Aug. 5.) I have a Jo-Han snap Lark that needs to be refreshed. The idea of a less-complicated build appeals to me. And I might actually have enough time to get it done. Charlie Larkin -
I like what I'm seeing here. Sign me up with a Hornet. Charlie Larkin

That car actually looks pretty good in yellow, a bit of a bright, eye-grabber color for an eye-grabbing (?) design. Charlie Larkin

It's nice to see a first-generation Valiant built up and displayed. I didn't realize that AMT was still making the 4-door and that it had an engine by 1962. I have a 1960 that I need to get built. Charlie Larkin

62 MOPAR Transporter
charlie8575 replied to Mopar - D's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Very nice. Charlie Larkin -
Especially for a slush-cast, that Mark is very nice. Personally, I'd like to see some of these in styrene. It might not be Tri-5 Chevy or '32 Ford market, but I think there would be enough of one between low-riders, customizers, rep-stock, etc. In the interim, I wouldn't rule out one of Jervis' offerings, though, especially if it can be built stock. Nice accident damage work and nice, cleanly-built model. Charlie Larkin

I wish I could've gotten my 8th graders when I was teaching to do stuff like this. It was hard enough getting them to concentrate on schoolwork, nevermind this! Beautiful work, and definitely something to be proud of, Kate. Please keep building and try to interest your friends. It's a wonderful hobby and a great way to learn, too. Charlie Larkin

Nice guide, Brian, and thank you for that, but I'm now seeing I might not have asked the question properly. 1. Which engine is supplied in the Police Interceptor? 2. Can the kit engine be modified to be correct without having to resort to raiding another kit? If not, the promo slug from the T-Bird is sounding real good right now. Charlie Larkin

That off white looks about right for Ermine White, too. What a nice, clean build. That's a car I'd be quite happy to drive. Charlie Larkin

So nice to see one of these done in non-street/hot rod or custom. And done nicely, too. Charlie Larkin
