Aussie '78 Ford Falcon XC Cobra Coupe
charlie8575 replied to MrBlueOval's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
With a little jiggery-poke, as my paternal grandmother used to say, it looks like an American Falcon could very easily be converted from that. They appear to essentially be the same car. Is that the case? Charlie Larkin -
If that tool is owned by the company, and the Chinese concern is simply a contract manufacturer, at least in this country, and I suspect most others, there would be some legal obligation to safeguard and/or return them to the owner's custody until the matter is settled. Then again, given modern business ethics across the globe, perhaps this is an object lesson countering Gordon Gecko in Wall Street, greed, while the driving force behind many of the improvements we now have in daily life, isn't always good. If enough businesses end up losing their property in China, as I suspect that this will become very commonplace as the Chinese economy begins what could be a very protracted meltdown, then all-out trade wars, global lawsuits of hitherto unseen proportions and a variety of other economic and trade horrors could result. Time will tell. Charlie Larkin

Help with PE parts
charlie8575 replied to fastbackfiero's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You could also try Model Master clear parts cement, which seems to hold a lot of small, fiddly parts very nicely in-place, and it has a couple of minutes of work time if you need it. Charlie Larkin -
Some really nice builds here. Yes, we do need a '74-'78 C-Body, and I'd love to see that '66 re-issued. Charlie Larkin

Not bad at all for the first time out. Nice-looking model, too, in that red. Charlie Larkin -
Finished Today! 1932 Ford Vickie Roadster *PICS*
charlie8575 replied to BHarrison's topic in Model Cars
Nice job with the convertible top frame. How about a tutorial- or even better, an article for the magazine, or a little of each? Charlie Larkin -
It's very hard to improve on a total triumph of design, as the '53 Studebaker is. You did so, however, and very nicely. Great job. Charlie Larkin

From the days when a Cadillac looked impressive and dignified, not like they were designed by some punk on illegal substances. Very nice, Terry. That maroon looks very good on it, too. Charlie Larkin

'8 Dodge Daytona: Sem-replica of a1:1 I owned
charlie8575 replied to Olskoolrodder's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I haven't seen a Daytona around here in years. Looks good, Steve, and I'll enjoy watching this. Charlie Larkin -
I like Bare-Metal, but I will also use chrome silver paint for some details that are either very small, and the foil is either proving too difficult to apply correctly or might be too shiny relative to the size. Also, where some things weren't too bright to begin with, the paint can look better. Lock cylinders are a good example. Charlie Larkin

How about some stuff- anything that we've haven't seen on the shelves in say, the last ten years? Just a thought... Charlie Larkin -
1960 Chevy deck wrecker

This is interesting. I didn't know they made a dual rear-axle chassis. Nice conversion work. Charlie Larkin -
Buying more than is financially healthy
charlie8575 replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Right now, a jar of paint is a bit of a stretch for me. When I have a little extra money, I buy things that interest me and supplies. When I was working regularly and had a reasonable amount of money, I'd buy what was of interest and I could afford. With some pending resumes, I'm hoping things will start to pick back up again and I can resume something bearing semblance to a normal mode of living. Charlie Larkin -
I do like this, Jeff. Very pretty color and interior combination. Did you use the exterior paint for the seats as well? Charlie Larkin

Acrylic paint cleaner?
charlie8575 replied to hellonwheelz3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If your paint dried, Testors offers Model Master Acryl dried acrylic paint remover. It smells a bit like hand-sanitizer gel and has the same consistency, but other stuff besides alcohol in it. It works well on parts, but have never had occasion to use it on brushes. Word to the wise- follow the directions on the bottle to the letter. Charlie Larkin -
I like the bluelines. Those are a nice change from whitewalls, redlines and white-letter. Very nice color, too. Acapulco Blue or close? Charlie Larkin
-
Very nice work on the IP, Janne. I'll get there someday. While I generally agree whitewalls are best on the big cars of that era, in some ways, your depiction of the medium-light blue with blackwalls and the road wheels is very nice in its own way. The buckets came from the factory in your choice of black or black, but the custom upholstery you show here is also very tasteful. Mine will be Burgundy Mist with the black interior and a white vinyl top. Great work. Charlie Larkin

Very nicely done. The only body I've ever seen was the roadster. Is this one an OOP or a resin? Charlie Larkin

From an application/appearance perspective, I have generally had the fewest problems with lacquers, especially when airbrushed. I'll use enamels, too. It depends on what color I want, what I have on hand and what my budget happens to look like at that point. Sometimes, I have to adjust my color choices to reflect my cash flow. Charlie Larkin
