  1. Here is a link to some photos of a few Hudsons I found the other night in a hotel parking lot. There were close to 70 cars. I only got a few because my wife and daughter were waiting in the car. Sure wish I could have gotten better photos and more info, but, hey, when was the last time you saw this many Hudsons in one place?

If I had to do it over again, I'd try thinning the bottom of the windshield and the top of the dash each just a bit where they mate up. It shouldn't take much. It was only about 1/16 inch too thick. I was able to cram it together with a lot of force and then super glue the chassis to the bottom of the body. So, it shouldn't take much thinning. I talked to one guy who said he didn't have that problem and to another who did. It may have just been something I did different. Just a warning for something to look out for.

  3. Great looking build so far. I'm digging the work you've done. I know I should wait and see, but my remembery isn't what it used to be and I may miss a crucial step if i don't check back at the right time. Anywho...my question is, what are the aluminum tubes for on the rear and front of the frame? I figured in the rear that it would be for an airbag set-up, but in the front they are too close to the engine to be for bags. What's up?

  4. Stephen-

Looking good! I like the two tone paint and the paint work on the seats.

One word of advice. Some people (including myself) had difficulty placing the body on the chassis. It seems that the bottom of the windshield hits the top of the dash and causes the body not to want to seat properly so that there is a gap betwen the bottom of the body and the chassis plate. Just a word to the wise.

  5. Looking great so far. This is my favorite year of Impala. Since you asked for any criticism I took a good look at all of your photos and the ONLY thing I could find to suggest is to detail paint the wheel covers. Do some research on what the 1:1 covers look like and paint or wash accordingly. If I'm not mistaken there are decals for the center of them, right? Your build is an excellent one so far. Keep it up. BTW- I like the contrast of the white border around the seat inserts too.

  6. Jim-

Great looking build. I have a similar build going that I need to get back onto. What suspension are you planning? I am using the suspension from the 37 Ford and trying to convert it to an airbag setup. Still not satisfied with it so, there it sits. I am planning a similar paint scheme. Black and red. Keep it up and I'll be watching to see how yours comes out.

  7. Now I can see why it has taken nearly two years. Great work on it and I LOVE the paint job. Looking at the series of photos it was easy to see the progression of the paint. Just fantastic work. It looks like a winner.

I like the work you're putting into this one. I always have had a hard time with chopping tops. It's a lot of work to get a good looking top. Your process is just like the way I did it on my 55 Ford pickup. Keep it going and let us see the progress.

I like what you've done with the Charger. The gold is beautiful,as are the steel wheels. I agree with DaveZinn on the MiniLites from Rep & Min. They're top notch. I have a set here that I have had for years for a 70 Boss Mustang Trans Am build someday in the future. As a matter of fact, I need to get a couple more sets.

Keep up the great work and Welcome to the site.

  10. Nice work that you've done on this. I've always wanted one of these to build as a slightly customized ambulance, but I never did get one. If I were to go that route (slightly customized ambulance), which kit would be better? The original or the newer kitted version?

For those interested, I saw a very clean 1:1 71 Olds ambulance today. I may stop back by to take photos of it for a future build using the new 72 Olds kit.

  11. I like the color myself. It sure beats another red Camaro and with the white stripe I think it will look great. The color reminds me of a Bahama Blue (I think that was the name) with white racing stripes 67 Camaro that an old coworker of mine owned. Beautiful car.

BTW- I noticed that your hood is different than the one in orange plastic. Did you modify it or is it a completely different hood?

  12. Simon- I'm sure you'll be seeing it in the Workbench section soon as it has been moved to the top of my list once I finish the VW.

Junkman- It is from Fujimi's Racing car Series. I don't know anything about the car itself. The kit only includes a driver's seat (Right hand drive) but does come with stock wheel covers along with the racing wheels. It also includes front and rear bumperettes, (Verticle bumpers rather than a long horizontal) two per end. Other than that, I don't see much for stock parts. The box shows three small picture -- the original race car, a picture of a Japanese driver, and a picture of his trophy case with his helmet. It is going to be a fun car to build.

  13. Cesar-

Good to see you again. It's been quite a while. Your builds are always educational and fantastic. Nice to have you here. What are you working on these days?

  14. Yeah, Mike. I'm back. I'll get some photos up soon. I cut out the openings for the side vents and finally got my mind wrapped around how I should be able to rework the (swing arms??) for the rear suspension. I did all of the lowering of it but I need to do the modifying to attatch them to the deeply inset rear wheels. Stay tuned.

  15. Neat idea Kevin. I've seen a few flower cars before (usually 50's era cars) and somewhere in my vast array of photos I have a few shots of a 53 Caddy (if I remember correctly). Keep it up. I'm curious to see how this one comes out.

  16. Hey Guys-

I know I sound like a broken record here but for those who care, I am on my way back to New Mexico in 6 1/2 hours to finish my job there. I'll be gone until about the 12th. Once I get home I promise I'll get some photo updates on here. Who knows, I may even have those side vents done.

    Later-

  17. I then turned my attention to the lowering of the suspension. The axle shaft (I guess that's what it is) is molded with a slight arch to it and the instructions show to install it with the arch up, making the rear sit higher. I turned it over to lower it but it still didn't cause enough of a lowering job. So I cut a pie shape almost all the way through each side.

I then ran out of glue so I couldn't glue it in place to check the ride height.

I also had to notch the underside of the chassis pan to keep the shocks from hitting when I lower it.

    DSCN3962.jpg

this is the start of the notch. I got the rest of it done and had to go to dinner before I could take more photos.

It is coming along. I leave again tonight or tomorrow for another job so I'll be getting more time in the hotel to work on it. Not sure when the next updates will be though.

Any comments or criticisms welcomed. Thanks for following along.
