Is that a seperate headliner i spy in the parts layout??
Yes, it is!
I plan to get the kit and try to make a baja bug out of it.
I got this one, and two more on the way. I'm thinking Cal look, and Baja, like the ones I had, and at least one stock...

Okay...looks nice. So what do we need to do to make it U.S.-spec, and what year would be the closest we could get once fixed?
Charlie Larkin
As far as I can tell, just add the bumpers with the over riders from the Tamiya '66, It would pass pretty easily for a '67.

Are the windows flush fit, or inserted from the inside?
Had to go check, they appear to be flush fit
Supposedly, the reason Revell has the "series" thing is so that buyers for the chains like Hobby Lobby, Michael's, etc. can purchase assortment lots of kits that relate to each other without having to pick them individually. The problem, though, is that kits like a bone-stock Beetle, Mini Cooper and '65 Impala convertible don't really seem to fit the spirit of the Cali Wheels line (because none have optional custom wheels, like the other kits in the series, for one thing). Seems to me it kind of defeats the purpose of having the series if Revell can't group related subjects together.
I agree

Ok...Ok... I'm picking it apart. Granted, it is a new kit, but it's just not accurate to call it a `68 as it doesn't even have fresh air heat!
By fresh air heat, do you mean the tubes from the air shroud to heat exchangers? Those parts are in there! I can see it's not a totally accurate model, but it will still build into a nice model car that'll look nice on any shelf...

Ok, here are some pics...

Sorry, just got home. I'll snap a few pics and get them asap...

Am I the first to open this kit? Definitely a new tool kit, with a parts count and similar detail to the great Tamiya '66 bug kit. I don't think it's a '68.The body looks like a '67, while the engine is at least a '71 because of the oil cooler set up and dual port intake manifold. The interior has an inaccuracy with a panel between the back seat and back window that was never there, and I believe the dash was supposed to be padded like a '69. Otherwise everything looks great! Waiting for the convertible kit to be released, so maybe I can combine the two to make a '69 like the two I had back in the day. Other than the inaccuracies listed, looks like it'll build into a great model! Thank You Revell!

Thanks again for all the tips and comments! I guess my big concern wasn't the actual leaving the hinges off, but by filling the firewall I was afraid of not being "Box Stock". It turned out there wasn't even a box stock category! It was a good learning experience, and I met a few other modelers in the process, and I think that is more important than an award any day.

Thanks guys! That is by far the best model I've ever built!

Quick update, I was able to use many of your suggestions, and took home the award for best paint!! Thanks for your help!

Thank you all for the answers! I just didn't want to lose points or be considered incomplete by leaving the hood hinges off. Back to my build!
Thanks again,

Hi everyone! When it comes to contests, you have a nice car but it has those giant toy like Revell hood hinges, is it better to just go with it or fill in those giant holes in the firewall and just set the hood on there with no hinges? Thinking of entering a local contest, (it'll be my first) and not sure which way to go on this....
Thank you for your answers,
Rick

Sorry it took so long, but here are the final pics...
Thank you for letting me participate, If we can get this cbp going again, I have lots of other trucks to build...

I'm calling mine done, I'll try to get a couple pictures up. Was going to add the reefer and make up some decals, but I moved on to other projects...

Ok, how 'bout this one! I was fixing up an old Porsche, and after painting it inside and out, I was putting the interior back in. I had replaced the wiper switch with a better one, but the turn signal switch looked pretty bad. I used chrome repair tape as BMF to make it look better!

What kind of deadline on this? I have probably the ultimate fifties finned car just begging to be built, A 59 Caddie!

I have had this addressed and stamped letter sitting on my desk now for over a week.
I went to the post office and explained what I was trying to do, and according to them it can not be done. there was never any mention of any coupon or voucher etc.
Oh well.
Thanks Bob
Hi Bob, send me your address, and I'll do it for you. I'm getting mine ready to go, I'll just do another for you....

I'm in the Salt Lake area, what do you need?
Rick
do you know some good place are to get models and do you know a loco hobby store to get stuff at like wheels plug wires and stuff like that
For cheap models, there's Hobby Lobby in South Jordan, or "Some dudes" Hobbies in West Jordan on Redwood and about 78th. For "one stop shopping" there's a great place in West Valley City at 54th and Redwood. A little pricy, but if anyone is going to have what you're looking for, it is them! They have the best selection of models, paints, and other accesories in the valley...

Sorry, no progress in a long time, I've been out of town for the past month tending to a family emergency, which turned into just a family matter of importance. Looks like I've got a lot of catching up to do! Some great progress from all of you!! I've got a lot of things to catch up on here at home, but I'm looking forward to getting back to the bench pretty soon!

Feel free to do so if you want Rick, the MCM Truckstop is the Iowa 80 of the model world, so we have PLENTY of parking!!
The trailer is looking great. Are you using the Coors decals on it? If so, set the reefer at 38 degrees, that's what they haul it at! That was one of my favorite loads I ever hauled, over 2000 cases of cold Coors staring at me when I climbed in the trailer to put load locks in it, that made me thirsty!!
Oh, just for the scale gearjammers that haven't driven the real things, the Iowa 80 reference is to the Iowa 80 truckstop in Walcott, IA, the world's largest truckstop. If I remember correctly, it sits on over 600 acres of land, and is a very nice place to spend a night! Here's a link to their website.
Thank You!! No, I wasn't going to use the Coors decals, I was going to try and make up my own! I was goofing around with the Testors Decal Maker software the other day, and think I can use that. I think I have the basic layout down, just have to play with colors some more. One of the companies I worked for had permits for all the trucks to haul alcoholic beverages. I never got one of those loads. Someone who knew me must have advised them against giving me one!!

Extended deadline? I could almost add another entry! (Almost ) Some progress, the trailer is basicly done. Still need to do the reefer parts, come up with some decals, and do some finish detailing on both the tractor and trailer.
At least the finish line is in sight!!

Dave, I would also like to thank you and everyone who made this kit possible!! That could not have been easy. I'm not going to jump in here with my suggestions of what should be next, but after buying and seeing this one up close, no matter what is next from you guys, it will find it's way to my bench!!
Thanks Again,
Rick
