Some people have way too much fun. Wonder if he actually builds models?
In this case, he says he started by using Miura scale models.

Nice job. I owned many years ago a Beck Spyder as some of you probably know is a kit car replica of the Porsche 550 Spyder. It was totally unpractical and I think my neighbors hated it when I started it up but it was blast to drive! Your kit is very very nice. Thanks for the posting.
I was very interested in a Beck 550, and I asked the owners club if there was a way of putting a heater in it: Answer: Yes. A down-filled jacket.

The 300SL Gullwing is probably Italeri's own kit. Which hasn't been available for a while, and according to Internet Gullwing fans, is the best 1/24-25 kit of that car. It was first released in the late '80s or early '90s, based off Italeri's 300SL roadster. The Heller kit dated from about 1979.
I recently got a package deal on 2 of the Heller Gullwing kits on eBay for a good price. They don't have the space-frame detail of the AMT 1/25 kit, which is OK. I want to build a barn find, and I may drop one of the engines into a hot rod or something.
Caveat emptor. As I’ve mentioned before, the Italeri Gullwings in any scale are based on the roadster, which has more pronounced fenders and a larger grille than actual Gullwings. In 1/16, the Minicraft version has a more accurate body shape. The Italeri roadster kits are very accurate except for the windshield shape.

Great job from every angle.

I can see it screaming down Thunder Road.

Work fast. Your hand skills may desert you sooner than you think.

Fabulous.

PPS: I once posted a detailed comparison of these kits, but can’t find it now. Anyway, I recall a couple of differences — Minicraft has a more complete space frame but, oddly, no firewall (should be easy to scratchbuild).
-
PS: I always counsel Gullwing modelers to use the following references:
Use Google Images to search fantasyjunction Mercedes 300SL Gullwings (the cars will be shown against a red brick wall). Fantasy junction shows a huge amount of photo detail in every nook and cranny. All photos can be clicked to enlarge, though they’re large to begin with.
Dennis Adler’s book, “Mercedes-Benz 300SL,” is very thorough and heavily illustrated with color photos, and contains year-to-year spec and upgrade differences.

The Italeri has some better detail BUT their Gullwing body is incorrect, and the Minicraft/Entex/etc version is better. Italeri made a very accurate roadster body (except for the windshield) which, unfortunately, they adapted for the Gullwings. They are different bodies in the real world — besides the obvious differences, the roadster has more pronounced fenders and a larger grille, and you’ll see that if you compare Entex and Italeri.

I would have had it but the grille bar was missing from the original image.
