Yeah I had a feeling it wouldn't be usable straight from the box. I just want the overall shape of an International 4400..then I could do all the other mods myself such as stretching it, and such. Were you able to take some pictures of your 4400 masters? -

By Ford LN8000..do you mean this? http://images32.fotki.com/v1064/photos/1/117425/3710160/31941_AMT_Ford_Louisville125-vi.jpg Also, if I've found the Chevy engine on Ebay, do I still need the Silverado? Also, I just got my order of Evergreen sheet/stock today..ordered a couple of the "Odds & Ends" bulk packs along with tube and sheet assortment sets so I should be pretty good to get started scratchbuilding whenever I find a Ford kit for a chassis to mess with. (Any chance that someone here has a parts kit sitting around I could get off you for a good price?) -Awan -

Where'd you get the resin rear wheels? I'd love to get a set for a scratchbuild i'm working on..I think they might work for the wheels on the truck in this pic: http://picasaweb.google.com/anthony.masterchief/ModelBuilding#5453179807251959874 Though the ones in my pic are 19.5"'s..I'm not sure what size yours are. Please let me know.. -Awan -

I'm after the 2003-2010 cab design...I may actually end up scratchbuilding...just because the cab available is somewhat pricey for something I'm going to be chopping up. I will however buy most details aftermarket...but I supposed scratchbuilding truck components is much easier than aircraft components...so I should be ok. I've got a bunch of drawings and photos so I think I've got it covered. Just bought a huge stock of Evergreen plastics online..so I can get started as soon as they show up. -

Got pictures of your work Bob? I'd love to see what you did... And thanks for the links...I've managed to print out a small stack of measurements/drawings for the truck I want. -

Perfect! I printed off some spec sheets...and I've got a couple of good hi-res top/side/front/back view shots that I've been measuring and scaling to size. Thanks for the link! -

Impressive builds guys! Thanks for sharing. Does anyone have access to three-view drawings or any dimensions in general of the newer model Kodiaks and Topkicks? Someone shared a few 'body-builder' PDF links in my International 4400 thread..was hoping maybe there'd be something similar for the Topkick/Kodiak. -Awan -

I didn't see a crew cab version of the 4400 cab. There is only this: http://sourkrautsmodeltrucks.com/?page_id=3&category=2&product_id=5 The only International crew cab I saw was the 4700, which is not the one I wanted to make. I got your PM though...reply on the way. -

Personally, I love the look of the smaller wheels, but I have no idea why they use them on the 1:1 trucks. -
Hey guys, some of you may have read up on my questions regarding two truck builds (International 4400 and Chevy Kodiak/GMC Topkick)in my self-introduction thread below, so I apologize for the reposts but I feel that if there's a dedicated thread, readers might be more likely to see the topics. This is the second truck that I'm looking to make for an online competition. My main inspiration is this picture: http://www.amickequipment.com/quicksale/MVC-708S.jpg (the description for the picture was "International 4400 Crew Cab"). I'd like to stick to the photo as close as possible - with the 19.5" wheels/tires and plow frame at the front. That said, I am having some difficulty getting dimensions/drawings of this vehicle and also finding possible donor kits/aftermarket parts. Having never built a truck model in my life, but armed with scratchbuilding experience on aircraft and armor models I think I should be able to tackle this project along with the Kodiak/Topkick. Any leads are appreciated, again, I'm totally new at truck modeling -Anthony

So, I'm trying to build a model of a a Chevy Kodiak or GMC Topkick (essentially the same vehicle I'm led to believe?). This photo was my main inspiration: http://www.frankscustom.com/images/IMG_1737.JPG (watch out it's pretty large)I'd like the built the crew-cab version, with the 19.5" wheels/tires as seen in the pic. Having never built a truck model in my life, but armed with some scratchbuilding experience on aircraft and armor models I think I should be able to tackle this project. However, I am having some trouble getting dimensions/drawings of said vehicle and also finding possible donor kits/aftermarket parts. New member intro and some questions!
awan replied to awan's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Ahh alright that confirms a few things. I saw that the Tim Sherman kit only contained very basic parts - the 'tub' seemed very basic and also wrongly detailed too. It's got a completely wrong dashboard and console set-up. However, that's all fairly easily rectified, but the exterior shapes of the cab aren't as easy. By the way, what's "NGV"? Can you reveal any more details? Feel free to PM me if you'd like to! Thanks guys! -Awan -

I'll send you a PM tonight. Thanks for the offer - I'd love to be able to get a couple copies of his stuff. I looked at Dave's site you linked there and I didn't see a 4400, only a 4000. I had a feeling the two might be related - I saw that diecast on Ebay when I was looking around for the cab I wanted. Also, I'll check out that discussion group you mentioned. Should be useful -

Hello all, first off a little about me. My name is Anthony, I go to school at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY. I did not start out a car/truck modeler..I started modeling with aircraft and ships, which is still my main focus. However, recently, I began tossing the idea of doing a couple of model truck builds for another forum I am a part of - Armorama.com. It's an armor-themed group. The group build is to build a vehicle to be used in a post-apocalyptic 'race for survival' of sorts. I've come up with two ideas for what I want to make, but having never touched a truck model let alone scratchbuilt one in my life...I'm here to seek your guidance and advice. The first build I wanted to do is based on an International 4400 Crew Cab similar to this one: http://www.amickequipment.com/quicksale/MVC-708S.jpg . I really like the look of the truck overall. Reference pictures are not a problem, I've got a bunch already saved. However, obtaining parts has been a challenge - there exists a set for the cab (made by All Seasons Collectible Toys - http://sourkrautsmodeltrucks.com/?page_id=3&category=2&product_id=5 ), but it is OOP and I cannot locate one anywhere. Also, I'm not sure exactly where I could look to find wheels and tires to suit my reference pics. The second build would be a GMC Topkick Crew Cab similar to this one: http://www.frankscustom.com/images/IMG_1737.JPG . Once again, I really like the look of the truck - Reference photos, are again, not the problem. I've found a kit for the cab (which will require modification, and again made by All Seasons Collectible Toys) - http://sourkrautsmodeltrucks.com/?page_id=3&category=2&product_id=28 but it is also OOP. And just as before, I'm not sure where to turn to find wheels/tires like the ones in that picture. Finally, my experience lies mostly with aircraft..If someone would be so kind as to help me figure out which 'donor' kits, aftermarket sets I should get to obtain engines, transmissions, and misc mechanical details for these two trucks...I would be very grateful for any help. Should there be a need to contact me, my email off-board is anthony.masterchief(at)gmail.com Please let me know, any help is appreciated! -Awan
