There's gonna be an NNL style model car show and an outdoor swap meet in the parking lot of the Algonquin Township Office at 3702 US Hwy. 14 in Crystal Lake, Illinois on August 3rd, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The swap meet is free to all, vendors included as you'll be selling out of your car trunk, pickup bed, or "easy up." Check it out.

I woke up this morning and thanked the Lord as each new day is a blessing. When people are younger they take a new day for granted, but when they're older and their bodies begin to wear out, they can truly see that each day above ground is a blessing. Yes even in these trouble times that we have not only in this country (USA), but around the globe.

Real nice job on that Charger Dan as I just love dem Mopars!

A way around it is to avoid accidents all together. I know at times it may be hard to do, but a good effort on your part will help dramatically.

Have you checked with Keith Marks? He may have them.

You can always get front disc brakes for your Impala Harry, as they work great and you'll be amazed at the "stopping power."

Resin leaching issue?......

Glad to hear that you're a "happy camper" again Jeff. -
C'mon Harry, this isn't the 60's anymore so what do you expect? You live in a "highly" populated area with many morons behind the wheel of their vehicles. Many do not have drivers licenses, insurance, responsibility, or even a clue that they're supposed to have ALL of the above. You either have to deal with those facts, or take a taxi all the time.

Maybe your husband can join this forum Kelly as it's a great place to be, and a lot of fun as well as very informative? They do have a few places here for model truckers. 10-4

Ace, thanks for the pics, as that WAS a BEAUTIFUL car. Guess I'll have to build one or two when the Moebius kit is released. -
I agree with you Dave Van as I believe in the early 50's the stores didn't have their Christmas stuff out 'til after Halloween or like you said 'black Friday." Wow, I'm THAT old already, where did the time go???
-
WOW! It's Christmas in July as I stopped at my local Hobby Lobby today to browse around and they had a lot of Christmas decorations up already including trees. Talk 'bout getting; the "jump" on things, I think they "red lighted." LOL!

Mike Gehrke is an AMG member and the one who works at the Model Empire, a really nice guy who helped me navigate my way into the club several years ago when I was a "newbie."

I use Devcon 5 Minute Epoxy all the time as it has a strong bond and dries clear. I put some resin on a piece of cardboard and then the same amount of hardener and mix it thoroughly with a toothpick. I then use the toothpick or a straight pin to apply where needed. Sure there is a LOT of waste with epoxy, but it works with all kinds of materials.

Buzz, glad to hear that your sight is better now as I've been there as well, a few years back.

LOL! I wouldn't be able to resist either. Very nice lookin' ride Harry and it's a LOT more tasteful.

Do you take your car to any car shows or cruise nights Harry? Do you have a blower for the induction system?

Why Harry, your Impala can do 150 mph, no? -
I too have been building plastic models "for fun" since the mid-50's and still enjoy it very much. I also belong to four model car clubs and am on a few model car forums as well. I build in MY "comfort zone" and add only the detail I feel like adding at the time during construction. Occasionally I'll use photo-etched parts, scratch built parts, or do kit bashing as well. However the fun is not over when the model is finished as I like to bring them to the club meeting for "show & tell" and talk about them as well. I also display my finished models in a curio cabinet in the living room, not the garage in boxes. I have no room in my garage for boxes of stuff as that's where I keep our 1:1 cars or daily drivers. I also enjoy NNL style events and trophies are not my game, even though I have a box full of them in the crawl space from the 70's & 80's. I go to car modeling events like club meetings, NNL events, swap meets, etc. to show my work and enjoy lookin' at others people's work. I also like the camaraderie that goes along with it, as I've met many people over the years.

Andy, can't you just ask your boss for a loooooong lunch break on the first Fridays of the month and attend the meetings, or no?
-
My 11 month old grandson came over today and we had a great time! It was "priceless."
-
The AMG club meets this Friday and hopefully there'll be a good turnout as the July meeting feel on the 4th and was cancelled. It is summer though, so it might be "hit or miss" as far as the attendance goes. We'll see.

Congrats to you and your better half. BTW if you send me some of your kits, you won't have that much to unpack, therefore saving you a "ton" of time. LOL!

I overlook a lot of these details on purpose as I build my models in MY "comfort level" as I build them for myself and my enjoyment. Some builders make a "career" out of finishing a model or are "trophy hounds" which is good if that's what THEY want. Over the years the hobby has been FUN for me and that's the way I'm keepin' it.
